More about this item
This was written for my dragons story in my guild and modified for the DL Fair. It was originally written about my RP characters A'lya and George.

The Legend of Cedric

As in most legends of old, the details have long since been forgotten. But the bravery and essence remain with us, larger than life. When heroes are needed they come from the unlikeliest of places.
So the story begins...
Many generations ago in the mostly forgotten past there were no magical dragons in the Lands of Aveyond. Dragons were a quiet lot that rarely ventured from their homes. They were content to live out their days curled around a pile of gold in blissful slumber. The affairs of men meant little if anything to them. And the Fairies and Elves were as elusive as dragons. Watching over all the creatures was the Great Oracle. She was in charge of keeping the balance of magic equal among all the creatures. Men it seemed were often tempted by magic and found themselves pulled toward evil paths. On one such occasion the dragon Cedric was drawn into the machinations of such men. It seems a young princess of the fairy realm had been captured and drained of her magic, by the dark hearted ruler of the Southern Kingdom. Every day he stole her precious supply of fairy dust and used it in unnatural means to make himself invincible. If not stopped he would have upset the delicate balance and destroyed magic forever. The Oracle summoned "The Three" together : a human named Jaffrey, an enchantress named Ophilia, and a dragon beast named Cedric. She set them upon a quest to rescue the fairy princess and dispose of the dark hearted king. Along their way they faced many dangers and conquered all of the obstacles that beset them. At the end of their journey the brave dragon Cedric sacrificed himself and rescued the princess at the cost of his own life. As reward for his unselfish act (especially for a dragon) she gave half of her own heart to restore him to life. Little knowing as she did so that she passed on her magic as well. The Oracle sensing the great generosity of Cedric added her blessing. And thus the first magical dragon in Aveyond came into being. All magical dragons trace their beginnings back to Cedric the Selfless.

One of that rare breed of magical dragons alive today is George of the Oldwoods. He and A'lya have many adventures to tell you about, but let us start at the beginning with...

The Meeting of A'lya and George
It all began many years ago as far back as I can remember. I was only four years of age but very sure of myself, some would call it cocky. I believed I could do anything, still do. I set out to prove I could take on the world. A knapsack and a practice bow and a song of bravery in my heart... and I was lost. How humiliating, not gone for a day and I couldn't find my way home. I sat curled in the bowl of a tree waiting for the night to pass. Yes I was lost, but I was not for a moment afraid. The sounds of the night were a symphony of nature. I may not have been in the house of my parents but still I was in my home. Part way through the still of the night an unfamiliar cry caught my ear. I wasn't sure what it was, only that it too was lost and alone. My heart broke ever before I saw the sad face looking up at me through the underbrush. The scent of honeysuckle wafted toward me and perfect violet eyes stared up at me. "Who are you little one?" I asked.
A plume of purple mist exited his nostrils as he struggled to speak, " G..George, Who are you?
I slithered out of the tree and dropped to the ground in front of him. We were eye to eye. I reached out to soothe the worry I sensed in him.
"My name is A'lya. How did you come to be in the woods alone?"
"I was trapped by men who wanted to sell me,"he replied."I managed to burn a hole through the cage and made my way into the woods. I have been wandering ever since night fell. Then I found you." He blew little purple smoke flowers at me.
I could sense the love in his words as he was talking to me. I knew one could become bound to a dragon if they impressed you at an early age, but I had no idea how strong the lure was. I didn't care. Let myself be bound I thought. Leaning forward I was lost for the second time that day. Forever lost in Georges' Violet eyes.
We snuggled together the rest of that night. Deep in conversation of everything we had known in our short little lives. Our dreams, hopes and cares merged into one. When the morning mist rose and the sun crept over the hills it found us bound beyond reason. Nothing could have separated us short of death, and even there I would gladly have followed him. "I must find my way home George. It was silly and irresponsible of me to leave. My parents must be worried." Was that me saying those words? but they were true. It must have something to do with George, I felt wiser somehow. George crooned to me and spoke,"The woods are thickest this way," and urged me to follow. Before the sun reached mid sky he had me at the edge of Elfwood. Where the village elders chastised me for causing such a turmoil by running off like that. But as soon as that was over they all crowded around to see the beautiful little purple dragon that refused to leave my side. All agreed it was better to have a dragon near the village. Once he was grown he would make a wonderful ranger and protector of our homelands. George almost turned pink from all the attention. Every single elf wanted to greet and welcome him. The rest of the day was spent in a purple honeysuckle haze.
