Part 3: The Alibi
All looked at the detective mouse, who was deep in thought. “A ballerina…, who can afford to wear gold… Mmmm… AHA! I’ve got it! Everyone follow me!” And he sprinted off towards the horizon.
A lot of snoring was the only sound they heard when they had arrived at the place detective Hercule had pointed. The other mice looked at Hercule disappointed. “You idiot,” sputtered a female mouse, “Did you already forget Aurora has yet to awaken?”
Princess Aurora seemed to snore in agreement and continued her 100 year nap. No wonder the fairies had laid her in the highest tower; the snoring was just too much.
“But, but she is a princess! Not to mention she sometimes performs ballet! She totally fits the thief image,” explained Hercule. Cinderella smiled, “Well, unless she can steal shoes in her sleep, we can be certain she’s not the one we’re looking for.”
“I agree,” the female mouse said and she gave Hercule a nasty look. “Well,” started Hercule, “Why don’t you tell me who stole it, Jacqueline?”
Jacqueline gave him a smug look and said, “I already know who the thief is or better who the thieves are. Follow me.”
Jacqueline led them to towards one of the ball rooms of the castle. This one was completely golden and was inhabited by twelve dancing ballerinas. “I’m sure one of them must have stolen the shoe,” she said looked at Hercule, who shook his head. “It seems, you don’t know who these ballerinas are.”
“Yes, I do,” puffed Jacqueline, “They are the twelve dancing princesses, who dance ballet every night.”
“Well yes, but they are also the twelve good fairies.”
“Impossible! I’m sure it said ‘princesses’ in my book.”
“Ha! Are you still believing in fairytales?”
“What’s wrong with that? At least I won’t grow up to be an imagination less detective!”
“Say that again!”
“Friends, please calm down.” The two mice looked at Cinderella, who smiled in return and headed towards the gold fairy. “Excuse me, Mademoiselle Or, but have you ever seen a golden ballet shoe with black rims?”
The fairy named Or shook her head, while continued to dance with her sisters. “But maybe,” she said in a melodious tone, “my sister Carabosse knows more.” And she pointed her hand in a swirly way to a gloomy looking fairy who was sitting on the bench, watching the others dance.
Carabosse looked up and winked at Cinderella, causing Cindy to back away a bit. “Umm h-hi, mada-mademoiselle Carabosse,” she stuttered.
“Hi, how ya doin’ ?”
“Good, I think. Umm could I ask you something?” This is uncomfortable, Cinderella thought.
“Yeppers.” So scary…
“Ok… Have you ever seen a golden ballet shoe with black rims?” Hang on, Cindy, you’re almost there…
“Well, actually…” Can’t hold on anymore…
“Ok, thanks for your time!” And Cinderella started to run towards the door.
“Hey! Wait! Come back here! We were just starting to get to know each other!” The mice watched the fairy chase after Cinderella, yelling to stop running. “I wonder if she knew who did it,” wondered a sloppy dressed mouse.
