I think they should only choose abortion when an unfortunate event (like rape) happened. Yeah, abortion is wrong, but what would happen if the child's born? Hate her/him because it reminds the woman everyday what happened on her? Or perhaps to the adoption centre?

Yup! I am fore that people shall do that choice by them self’s, If a teenage girl gets pregnant it will not just ruin her future, it probably will ruin that child’s future too, (well some teenager could sure be good mothers, but any way its not good to have child when you are not mature) but I don’t think “abort” shall be used like “preventive”, so it should be good if people started to use “condoms” not just for the risk you have to be “pregnant” but also for the risk for having a “desist” (don’t know if I spelled that right) I know that half of the world are chocked of the word Condom but it is very use full and you can be sure that you don’t get sick or pregnant if they should give out condoms in every school and tell the youth how to use it I guess we should not have so much problem with young mothers, deserted child’s and sick people

I should agree with abortion if the girl has been raped. There's a problem, I think many (young?) men don't want to bother using condoms, they just want to fulfill their desires , so I've noticed many women have to take the pill to avoid to be pregnant unvoluntarily!
Though I'd like if possible, that every pregnancy should be assumed.

I am against child abortion. That was taught to us during the Humanae Vitae in our school. These children have the right to live a good life. I really get so mad when I hear a fetus being abandoned in comfort rooms, streets etc.

Well, I think it's really a question of choice and it only concerns the people involved in it, not only the woman in some cases too, so far it's done with some reflexion...
The future and happiness of the child must also be taken in account.
But I also agree with the fact that it shouldn't be a derivative at taking a correct contraception in order to avoid that.
Some people really use that as a "tomorrow pill" and that is really bad in my opinion.

I haven't and won't take a look at any pictures, since this kind of things are made by people involved in one or the other position and then not neutral at all, for me...

yeah, almost everyday in the news... fetuses are found in the trash, in the toilet, in the church...

yes, abortion is ultimately the mother's choice. just like each one of us chooses what to do with our life.

i guess points of views are mainly influenced by faith. i am strongly against abortion because i believe that we don't have the right to take away another one's life just so you'd live a comfortable life.

For the last point Abby, I totally agree with you. It's certainly not one of the valuable reason for me to go through an abortion...
But there are also situations were I think it's better for both parent(s) and child to do so...

And yes, faith is also a big part of what people think about that too.

But that's just the point. For so many children born of unwanted pregnancies, they do not get the good life they deserve. And what of all the instances where not fetuses, but full-term infants are left in trash dumpsters etc.? I would think that in most cases, that is not because the mothers are heartless, but because they are scared and/or desperate, not thinking they have other options. It would certainly be better for both the mother and child to terminate the pregnancy, rather than commit actual infanticide.

I'm always and forever pro choice. I can never know all thepossible reasons behind abortions, but I would never say that it's always wrong. In some cases I find it very unethical (for example this one girl I knew that had many abortions, because she didn't want her boyfriend using a condom, because it didn't feel good, and for some reason she couldn't take the pill. I think she should have just given up sex altogether at that point.) But there are situations where it is the least bad option.

If for axample the mother has diabetes, it can be very dangerous for her to carry the child full term. Or if the woman has been raped.

It's not altogether easy here to get an abortion. Or it might be, but there are certain requirements to be filled. I don't remember them all, but there was at least the age thing (if the mother's under 17 or over 40, or you've had more than five children, you can get an abortion, but it's still not forced on anyone), and if it would danger the mother's health to carry the baby, or if there are social or financial obstacles to having the baby, or if the foetus is missing limbs or the head or has some other deformity, or if the mother was raped. But there always has to be one of these requirements filled for someone to get an abortion here.

Then there's of course the morning after pill. Some people consider that abortion... I wouldn't. But it should never be the primary contaception.

A little clarification: In which story did they say their leaving fetuses anywhere? Because that implies that the woman did not go to a trained professional. Instead, she went through an illegal channel to do it. (strange how when the body naturally aborts aka miscarriage, it's alright and no one's screaming at the woman for being a murderer even though that's what she is under your prolife definition. Hmmm)

If you don't want to see these 'fetuses' (full term babies I've heard of), or perhaps blood all over the streets: SUPPORT ACCESSIBLE ABORTION rofl

To flavie who said women take pills to avoid rape: Not entirely true. There are plenty of women who have to take the pill ( yes, THE pills) due to hormonal problems such as too much testosterone in their bodies. Others will use the pill to avoid the period, because it's an inconvenience of several days.

it's in the news here in the Philippines. fetus found in a shoebox or bottle... and yes, they did not go to a professional because abortion is a illegal here.

and there are news too regarding newborn babies with the cord still attached thrown in a garbage area. luckily this was beside a clinic so the baby survived and was adopted by a family who wanted a baby. there was also an incident when a baby was thrown from a speeding taxi (the baby survived too, they have guardian angels i guess) and one was thrown out from the 2nd floor of a building... just outside the window.

Making abortions illegal or hard to get just compounds the problems that plague women. It doesn't solve anything. If YOU don't want an abortion, fine: Don't do it. But don't make it so hard for others that they resort to illegal abortions OR forced 'carrying to full term and birth' where they'll get rid of the thing anyway. Illegal abortion is very dangerous for the woman.

In other words, don't impose you're views on others. If we constantly let others restrict what we should have the right to, the majority of women in US would still have no rights and interracial marriages would be a thing of fiction. Let women at least have the option to have an abortion so she would not have to resort to illegal abortion.

it is not imposed just because they want to... but it is imposed such that people don't do abortion just to live a comfortable life, an easy way out for a misdeed.

people are going to get them any ways, so you might as well provide a safe, legal and proper abortion. that brings the original Dirty Dancing movie to mind, but people that get them dont always end up as lucky as that girl in the movie did.

@abby: that makes no sense. Women don't get abortion just for comfortable living, heck some of them are not living comfortably to begin with. If you read any of the previous posts, there are plenty of health reasons to get an abortion. And we're not even talking about cases of rape.

I feel like I typed this out before. Perhaps I should just save this into a document and re post it every single time abortion comes up again.

well what I mean Abby wanted to say about that point is that some women don't think a second of other contraception ways before doing things, they just feel like doing it at the moment no matter the consequences, and then it's the "easy" way to get rid of an annoying situation.
In some countries where there is not so difficult to get through an abortion, it happens unfortunately more often than it should...

Anyway I'm still for the choice as I told previously, but in any case it should be taken at ease...
And I'm definitely for in case of health problem if the parent(s) can't face that or if there is a risk the child won't have a "normal" life...
Naturally, I also know people who have voluntary adopted childs with big health problem and it's their choice and it's a wonderful one in my opinion, but not everybody is able to face that too and I don't have to judge that at all...

Those mothers who usually do abortion are those who are young aged moms, or those others. Thats what I have found out after a research in the local library.

right on that cat it's like i don't care if i get pregnant... i can get an abortion anyway... rape cases, and life and death situations are a different matter. just as euthanasia is different from homicide or murder.
