This club is for the discussion of seasonal holidays.

The Holiday Crew will be posting information on specific holidays to jump start discussion. For instance for Christmas I will post such things has ‘how Santa Claus came about” ‘why people decorate Christmas Trees”, ‘how the candy cane came to be” etc.

I am seeking others who are willing to help. If you want to take over a holiday I haven’t listed please PM me. Also send me a PM if you have any ideas for the club or would like to help out with one of the holidays I have listed.

What can I do here?

*Share pictures of a holiday celebration or tradition.

Rules:

1.) All AM Rules apply here. If you do not know the rules of AM please visit the Hall of Rule.

2.) Please do not discuss a holiday when it is not in season i.e. discussing Halloween (Oct 31st) in June. Discussion on a holiday can begin no more than 2 months before that holiday occurs and no more than two weeks after the holiday is over.

Only time you can dress up like a total idiot and get away with it (besides cosplays) ^_^

So far I've been a ninja, batman, a knight, devil, surgeon, jester, myself, and a few that I'm trying to block from my memory. Note to self: never let your mother pick your costume. Especially when it involves something frilly.

We used to decorate the house, but now we don't because it takes to much work to put it up than bring it down.

My best accessories is my huge Orc Sword (~3.3ft / 1meter!)and my double light saber. <3 ^_^
Only complaints is my orc sword is fragile so I can't whack people with it DX Would snap in half.

Did a very nice job on this thread. I absolutley love hallowen it is probably one of my favorite holidays. it is probably because i always have so much fun on hallowen.

Hm...perhaps, you could add New Year's to the holiday list? Lol, I have yet to stay up to the actual year. But this year, I shall accomplish it!!!

For Thanksgiving, are you only going to do the American one? The Canadian Thanksgiving was ealier this month.

@PokeGal I will add New Years if someone wants to pick it up. Would you like to volunteer to do a little write up for it? I didn’t want to hog too many holidays for myself or give myself a lot to do right away on my return to AM, but if it gets closer to New Years and no one claims it I will post a little something for it. PM me if you’re interested in taking on any holidays.

@Mizzou I intended to do the American one since it’s the only one I’m familiar with. I clarified my holiday list my first post. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Would you want to take on the Canadian Thanksgiving for next year? Send me a PM if you would.

@LadyT: It's not much different than the American Thanksgiving, it just celebrated earlier. And truthfully, I'm more familiar with the American Thanksgiving as well since I am an American. I just happen to live in Canada.
I'm hesitate to commit to something that far in advance. I'm not sure what this next year is going to be like for me.

We don't celebrate Halloween here, but it's always nice to get a feel of the atmosphere from the US forums and sites I visit

A related song I love is Halloween by Siouxsie & the Banshees [one of my favourite bands]. But the version I like is the one from the album [Juju]; if you try searching for it on youtube I think that it will only find a version from a concert [which is still good, but not as good. It's from a concert from 1981 I think, and Siouxsie looks great there], not from the album.

That's cool information about Thanksgiving. I always watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. I like seeing the balloons/floats and everything else that is included.

A couple Thanksgivings ago, my cat Gus(the one in my avatar) feel asleep in the pan we were going to use to cook the Turkey. I used to have a picture of it on my computer. Don't know where it is now.

My family rarely ate Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving Day. My uncle's a firefighter and usually had to work on the Thursday. So we would have our thanksgiving dinner on Friday. And on the Thursday, my grandmother would take us out to see a movie. The movie theater would be empty.

@Mizzou interesting. The theater is always packed in my home town on Thanksgiving they charge like 5 bucks for a holiday movie marathon.


My family always eats Thanksgiving dinner at around noon then after we're done eating we sit around, snack, and play board games.

@LadyT: The movie theater didn't have any specials like that. And we would go about the same time the football game is on. I suspect alot of people would be at home watching that.
