Last school year, I had to write a folk tale for my English 3 class. I posted this then, along with my grade but I am now reposting in honor of the Viva La Revolution.

THE SQUIRREL BALLAD

The world is a very large place full of wonder and danger alike. Many people with great schemes and ideas roam the world, following their ambitions. Many very important things happen because of these people: wars, world changing events and inventions. But that is not what this story is about. A very little known but influential movement took place. A small force was put together. This movement seemed foolish to those who knew of it. In truth, looking solely at its base and core, I suppose it was.
A headquarters was stationed in a small cave in the High Lands. General Binx of the militant squirrels headed this foolish, ambitious, and arrogant movement. General Binx found humans to be dreadfully stupid. Under his orders, the militant squirrels began plotting to take the world over from human rule. They truly believed they could.
One morning, an odd trio stumbled into the headquarters. The purple haired girl who seemed to be the leader kept trying to talk to the squirrels but only General Binx gave them actual information. The squirrels were taking corn from “foolish human farmers” in the Low Lands. The small farming town was a surprising distance away and all the people who lived there were greatly confused. Foiling their plan, the purple haired girl, Rhen; the green haired boy, Lars; and the tall woman, Elini informed the town who had been taking their corn.
General Binx decided that was a foolish plan in the first place, to take over the world by stealing corn, and so had the underling who came up with the idea lashed. The group came back, a little larger this time. They were told to join the squirrels’ ranks or face death. Not wanting to deal with fighting a bunch of crazed squirrels, the group decided to join the squirrels’ ranks. They received three lashings for asking stupid questions. Thinking the humans would not understand because his General had told him squirrels were the smartest creatures in the world and that humans were the dumbest, the Lieutenant told them of their store of sleeping dust. Lars said, “Will you show us where this store is? We have some more, er, sleeping dust to add to the store.... er, sir.” General Binx was overjoyed at this and ordered the lieutenant to take them to the stash. Even though they had foiled the squirrels’ last plan, General Binx didn’t think the foolish humans could possibly be smart enough to take the sleeping dust from the cave. Not only did the humans take the sleeping dust, but they also took the bird seed they were going to use to catch a nightingale for a plan B. The nightingale disappeared soon after.
Because they hadn’t been his ideas, General Binx decided that they were just incompetent and that he would just have to come up with the plans himself. So, the next time the humans came, he told them he needed a battering ram. After waiting for weeks on end, General Binx finally decided the humans weren’t going to bring a battering ram and finally realized his own foolishness at thinking he could take over the world.
When he heard news of a group of humans led by a purple haired girl completing some great quest, he sent squirrels to them. Seeing it was the same group, they told General Binx and all the squirrels returned to the humans. Rhen looked at the squirrels, “What crazy plan do you have to take over the world this time?”
“We realized we could never take over the world. We are sorry for trying. But we need something to do,” General Binx replied and all the other squirrels nodded in agreement.
Lars whispered something in Rhen’s ear to which she nodded, “Lars is going to find you a room while I see if there is something you could do.”
The squirrels waited in their room until Rhen came to them, “Do you promise you won’t try to overrun the government?”
“We promise. We have realized we were being very foolish and mean.”
“Good. How would you like to be spies for our military and help us rebuild the kingdom?” The squirrels liked this very much and soon, almost all talking squirrels and humans were friends. So, in the end, humility and realizing you may not be as smart as you think is always the best way to go.

It's FUNNY. I really like the militant squirrels! Also, glad you got such a high grade.

Tis such a nice story indeed. And ditto spence, the story has a good moral. Keep it up.

edit: If I were the teacher/professor, that should have been a "99". XD
