@Kinnison
It's super easy, Kinnison. After I'm finished, I may post the script at RPG Revolution with the rest of my super simple scripts.

@Aeternus
Confirmed!

I was surprised why it became June 2009. XD

All I can say for now is that we shall see what will happen in the future. It actually reminded me of Reives' Quintessence: The Blighted Venom since it was divided into chapters as well.

Just one question: After the final battle with "he who must not be named" (you know who, in AV3), there is still some more to come?

I'd rather suggest that it would be released by chapters of 2. Why? Well, I just think that it will be worth the wait, but its just an opinion.

Stardale, yes, there's more to come, but there always was.

That battle will be near the end of chapter 2. But originally AV3 was only the beginning of a trilogy. So there was always going to be more after that

So are the chapters going to be what originally was going to be Aveyond 4? Since Amanda said before the chapters that Aveyond 4 would be a direct continuation of Aveyond 3, so will the chapters replace Aveyond 4?

@Mopiece yeah probably. It was ment AV3,4 and 5, to be a trilogy so I guess it will be like having 6 parts from one AV game..that's so cool XD

Anyway I think I like the idea now (after sleeping lol)

I hope I won't sound too negative since I don't mean to be. But this news caught me slightly off guard! I've never been a fan of episodic games myself.. I really don't like cliffhangers. When I start a game already knowing there will be no real resolution and half of my quests will go unfinished, it slightly diminishes the excitement for me. I know it's all about the journey and not the destination, but I guess I like knowing I can actually reach the end of the game when I start playing. This will certainly take some getting used to for me! I will probably wait until at least the second part is released before I start playing. Good thing I have a bunch of unfinished games to keep me busy, otherwise I'd go nuts!

Anyway, I also have a few questions. How is the difficulty going to work? Those people importing their save files are going to have stronger leveled up characters with good equipment, compared to any people starting a new character. Won't the monsters be either way too easy for old characters or way too hard for new ones? Also, if there will be 4+ chapters, and people keep importing their character.. they will end up with level 99+ supercharacters soon enough. It might be difficult to keep the game challenging for them. Will there be a difficulty option for 'old characters' and 'new characters'?

Secondly.. won't this system put alot of stress on you as the developer? With a full game, you have more freedom with the deadlines and release dates. But with a set deadline of 3-4 months.. should anything go wrong and development take more time than expected, those 4 months will grow into 5 or 6 and you will have a lot of anxious people on your back, going "Where's the new chapter, where's the new chapter?!!"

Thirdly, is there a possibility that once the Aveyond 3 storyline chapters have all been released, they will be released as a single game/game package? Tho' I doubt I could wait that long, heheh.

I think everything else I wanted to ask has already been covered. I do wish you luck and hope it works out! But yeah, not everyone is going to be happy about this development. People who are only casual fans or have never heard of Aveyond before may be put off from buying the game. Let's hope for the best!

Those are questions I precisely wanted to ask, but another one is about chapters. Once chapters 3, 4, and 5, (I assume?) are released, what will happen to the game in general? Will we be stuck with these characters for all eternity?
Won't it take you much longer to develop a whole new universe/characters/storyline/dialogue?

I don't mean to sound critical. I think this is an OK idea (though waiting more really hurt! *sob*) but I am just wondering about ironing out these questions.

I guess I kind of view the extra chapters (the ones that will come after parts 1 & 2) as like "expansion packs" - like the Sims had, you know? Heck, you can go out and buy "The Sims" for $20, but then you have to get "House Party" and "Hot Date" and "Vacation" and "Makin' Magic" and "Pets" and....Well, you get the idea. And then there's Sims 2 with a whole set of new expansion packs....

I guess a good question would be, would players be able to "skip" a single subsequent chapter and then pick up the next one? Say I play Chapters 1, 2, and 3...skip 4...can I grab 5 and load my saved game from 3 and be able to play? Or would I just have to start a whole new game?

I *think* (and this needs confirmation) that you *can* skip chapters, but you won't be able to load game 3 into game 5 (i.e. you have to start a new game in game 5) probably due to the continuation problem that would arise. I believe that for every chapter there will be some default weapons/equipment/stuff that you're supposed to have from previous chapters, e.g. players who start a new game in chapter 5 will start with playable characters from level 70 perhaps? You probably won't get the frills you'd get from side quests in previous chapters though.

It actually does not require a script, only smart maps usage. :p

I'm not raising the prices. I'm splitting up a 20 hour game into two pieces and selling each piece for $10. So as opposed to getting one 20-hour game for $19.99, you will receive two 10-hour games for $20. So, if you think I'm splitting the game for the extra cent, you're wrong.

Now, I think there is confusion on the chapter idea. I suspect you think that I'm going to chop up the current Aveyond 3 game into 10 one-hour chapters. This is not going to happen. If enough people like the first two 10-hour chapters, I will make new 10-hour chapters for you to play. Does this make sense? I have no plans to charge you $30, $40, $100, or $1000 for a traditional 20-hour Aveyond game. You will pay the exact equivalent (minus a cent) that you've always paid for the number of hours you receive in an Aveyond game.

Hold on a second, I got about 40 hours out of Aveyond 2 and now your promise of Aveyond 3 being a massive game has become a short 20 hour game that won't even have a satisfying ending until we pay up more money for the 10 hour chapters?

Count me out sister. I loved Aveyond 2 but I'll be waiting until the other gaming portals sell this game with all the episodes for a decent price.
As for xbox 360 and ps3 games selling for a whole lot more, they do have much bigger production values and the average rpg on the consoles like Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion and Fallout 3 have at least 60 hours of gameplay.
Hell, you can pick up the Neverwinter Nights and Gothic box sets for about $35 usa each and they have enough gameplay to last several months.

@Ryan_Hayward it all depends of that how much time do you need to handle the quests and I guess of the thing how good are yo with the puzzles etc, I finished Av 2 for 19 hours and several minutes, the game you're saying that you've played for 40 hours.

Yeah, that's kind of where I was getting at with the $60. I mean, this is a game made with a game kit. Don't get me wrong, it's highly enjoyable, and I love the story, but it didn't require people with diplomas in 3D animation and programmers and all that to produce. I've never paid more than $50 CND anyway.

Although I suppose the distribution of a console game is more so than an indie PC...

Anyway, I momentarily take back my 'cash grab' suggestion until I see how much play time I get out of a chapter.... But I'm still not sold on the idea. I prefer a complete rather than episodic product.

Thanks, that's what I thought. But I figured I'd ask because I wasn't sure.

@Mara
Just because she is making computer games doesn't mean she didn't go to college. Or that it doesn't require lots of work to develop the game. She does have people working with her that she has to pay.

The only difference between this and the platform games, is platform games are usually longer. And they're programmed different.And platform games have a lot more people that need to get paid from making one single game.

If it took you 40 hours to play AV2, then it is going to take you about 50 hours to play Chapters 1 & 2 of Aveyond 3.

I finished AV2 in about 16-18 hours, and it took me around 21 hours for AV3 (Chap. 1 & 2).

The 20-hour completion time for the Aveyond games is just an average, based on feedback from players and testers.

The Aveyond games are not getting shorter. If anything, they are getting longer and more involved.

I didn't say anyone didn't go to university. I said platform games these days require people with back ground knowledge on 3-D animation and programming which isn't required when you use a 2-D RPG game kit. Hence the added costs one might be willing to pay....
