@mara: sides, comparing AV to platform games is like comparing quartz to diamonds. You can't do it.

Platform games are probably going to look better, sound better, and probably be longer due to the sheer amount of people and money pumped into these games. Why would you compare AV where you have a relatively small team working on it (and small budget) to say Elder Scroll Oblivion/KOTOR/Titan quest with a large team and a freaken huge budget?

Sides, Amanda has already confirmed that its 10bucks + 10bucks=20bucks for AV3, which is the usual price for AV.

And note that amanda said she's just trying out the system to see if it works. I'm assuming if she's not satisfied with the results, she'll continue doing 1 big game every 1-2 years.

I am curious how much will the subsequent chapters cost? Will this be more like PlayFirst's Diner Dash, if you want additional restaurants you have to pop $4.99 each? Hmmm...

*sighs* No this will not be like Diner Dash serrie. It is said 1000 time that each chapter will cost 10 bucks, and that there'll be 2 chapters per game, so the price will be the same.

I believe that if a new build is released of the chapter or Amanda has an idea of adding new things into it, it'll be free to upgrade your game if you already bought it here.

Yeah, every chapter will cost 10 bucks.

AV 3 will be released in 2 chapters, each of those will be 10 bucks. After that the 1st chapter from AV 4 will be released and it will cost 10 bucks etc.

Every new AV game will be split in 2 chapters, so yeah it will be a new game and you'll have to buy it.

With any kind of game kit, you can make "a game" without much programming knowledge, but it's going to be a very basic game. If you want something special, you have to have the skills to get the best out of the game engine.

Graphics is a small part of what makes a "good game" these days - many people prefer something with simple graphics and a good storyline over a game that's got terrific 3D graphics but is pretty mind-numbing. As always, there will be a trial period - I'm assuming it'll remain at an hour. In that time, you'll be able to play the game, then decide whether the following 9 hours or so is worth your $10. Whether you think the price is justified is a decision that only you can make. But don't make it before you've even looked at the game

Man, I was not exspecting this. But, I think it's a great idea! Personally, I do not care how much it costs, I will contiue buying Aveyond games. (unless they go to 100$ a chapter) And, I am very happy about the wait, believe it or not. I have been thinking all this time- 'It's almost here! Yay! But, wait, how the heck am I going to fit in time for my game?'. Well, this is just great! I was really worried that I would abandon the game I'm making and forget about it while playing Av3. But, this seems to solve my dileama!

I know for a fact that this time, if other companies sell it too, whether it's cheaper or not, I will buy Aveyond from Amaranth. (I didn't the last two times.)

I do not really like this idea. These games are always so wonderful that I do not mind waiting about a year for one. I am worried that they will be rushed and not of the same quality.

The other thing I am wondering, if it is in two chapters do we have to start over or is it like an expansion pack? I would not like to have to start leveling from scratch for chapter 2 and start without items.

It has already been stated that you will be able to carry over your save file from one chapter to the next.

The only thing i'm annoyed with is the fact that i'm gonna have to wait until big fish games get the chapters in since it's the only site i have credit on meaning i can purchase the chapters. Until then i'll have to settle with the free trial...and even then i'll still only be able to get like 4 chapters. It kinda sucks being poor

You will not have to do anything. Amanda has already worked out how save files will carry from one chapter to the next. All you have to do is finish the game in each chapter before you can carry your progress over to the new one (or decide you want to start the new chapter afresh)

I think this is a new and interesting thing to try out for the popular AV games. It'll be like a persistent RPG where you purchase "expansion packs" every few months or so. This isn't anything new that the bigger game companies already do, so I don't know why so many people are upset with this. If you play games like Neverwinter Nights, you usually purchase expansion packs which have new campaigns to play.

My apologies for moaning before. I didn't realize some people could finish Aveyond 2 in under 20 hours. I thought I was good but obviously some of you guys and gals trumple me in the speed department. Hey, I'm sold if the two chapters will be as large as aveyond 2 or larger and I guess future chapters will be the icing on the cake as it will mean more aveyond sooner rather than later and being able to flesh out the characters that have come to love.
I was heartbroken when Aveyond 2 came to an end so maybe just maybe you can release chapters for that game as well. That would be so awesome!

The productions for the aveyond games are very good, it wasn't fair for me to compare them to big budget games as that is not what indie is about.
Besides, the pixel art is gorgeous and captures the snes glory days very well. I really have to be honest and say I got as much enjoyment from Aveyond 2 as I am getting now from Elders Scrollsblivion and Gothic 3.

@Ryan_Hayward.....I deem it as impossible since Amanda had already started on AV3 not so long ago. AV2 had already come to an end (I mean, we already have the endings, right? There's no point sticking another chapter on it after Ean and Iya left for their home) and it seems to me that Amanda isn't the type of person to add another chapter in previous games while in the middle of another project.

Well that is a bit reassuring. I still do not like the idea of it being in chapters, but I hope I change my mind after it comes out.

Now that AV is being released in chapters every 3 months or so...whats going to happen between AV3 and AV4? will it still be a year or 2 between the last chapter of AV3 and the release of AV4 or will AV4 be out 3 months after AV3 ends?

I think the chapters will become what was originally planned for Aveyond 4.

I love the idea of not having to wait so long for new content and I am absolutely dying for the next game to come out, but won't it end up being more expensive? I get that for the Aveyond 3 release, the price works out to be the same as if it were released all at once. But is the price going to stay the same for all the chapters released afterward, $10? Paying $10 every time a new chapter is released is gonna add up, instead of a one-time fee every year or so, right?

I'm just bummed we gotta wait longer for the game to come out...

thanks Mo but i'm not sure i got my question across. From what i understand AV3 will have 6 chapters that comprise of 2 chapters each from what was originally planned to be AV3/4/5. This is all going to be released under AV3 now. Once the AV3 story is finished (All 6 chapters) how long will it be before the new story, AV4, is released?
