Well, I see the last post was a while ago, but I'm new and this topic caught my eye.
I don't like the shirts like you mentioned. They even make stuff for babies like that - you don't give my what I want, I'll call Grandma sort of thing - which seems cute, because they can't read. But I don't think it's a good precident to be setting, so I avoid buying even baby stuff like that. I also agree that it's not just little girls, it's all little kids these days. I agree with so much you all have said, so I'll try not to be too repetitive. But given the choices instead of knowing what is expected of them. Not being corrected when they are rude. Spanking for heavens sake! My parents spanked us all when our behavior really called for it - I wouldn't say it cause any damage to my brother & sister and I. But that was always preceded by a discussion of what we did wrong & why it was wrong. You can't just tell a kid not to do something & not explain why. I've seen young parents laugh when their toddler was rude or sarcastic to someone. I've seen older parents too tired or not up-to-date on technology to really know what's going on in their kids lives. But I've seen plenty of parents who seem to wrapped up in themselves & what they want. There are few things in the world that annoy me more than a disrespectful child!!!! And that's what you seem to see in most - but not all - kids today. There's an interesting article that was in the news recently that pertains to this discussion. I'll have to find it and post it. Hopefully this will work. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30585984/

@leelah
i think the standards for being "spoiled" and for the what the "real world" actually is, are very different ideas for everybody. two poeple can have completely opposite ideas about what constitutes spoiled or living in the real world. for example, if a teenager is completely supported by their parents for their youth, and then still supported by them when they're grown up, they never really had to face what some might call the real world, but for that person is the real world. idk if that makes sense, i'm having a hard time explaining my idea lol :]

Well, I define "the real world" as a place, where you don't get EVERYTHING you want. That's the fact she's never going to swallow -.-'

I really don't think that this is a problem. At six years old it's OK to imagine (or even think) that you are going to marry a prince, that you will be a movie star, or that you will be filthy rich when you grow up. When most girls get older they become more realistic. I have not seen many girls over eight who are like this. And under eight I feel it is OK. Besides, even if they are entitled, they're still sweet little angels.

@iPink: ur absolutely right
at that age, the mind is not much developed and we don't have the experience of the real world. so, that imagination is not bad at that age. But yea its a problem after 10 years or something.

None of my cousins or relatives pretend they're princesses (not that I know of).My brother and sister don't think of themselves as princesses seeing as there older than me.I don't think i'm a princess and my cat Dan and my kitten lilly don't think they are princesses.
They're just imagining it.It's probaly the same with boys.They aren't PRINCESSES they're PRINCES. Mind you.My cat thinks he is a king and that the house is his castle and have to follow ALL of his rules.He seems to have an imagination too!

Luckily, I don't have the spoiled side in my current family. However, it's very different from my grandparents. If anyone asked my grandparents for something, they'd get it and sometimes its overly expensive. They take advantage of the fact that my grandparents have this little illness that they received from the olden days, when my grandparents were poor or frightened of becoming poor.
It irritates me that some of my family members do this to them. The world as we know it has turned into a world of greed. For pete's sake, the Wii board is cool and all but it's for exercise, something everyone can do on their own without aid! They've become lazy and demanding. Though I'm addicted to the internet, I'd still occupy my time without it. I'd most likely be better off the computer and associating with people outside the net.

"Though I'm addicted to the internet, I'd still occupy my time without it. I'd most likely be better off the computer and associating with people outside the net." I think so, too. I'd be really exercising if there was no Internet. Now I just eat and watch anime on Youtube (actually now for lingual reasons) when I have a day off.. -.- It's true that some ppl just take advantage on the elderly relatives. I feel ashamed even when my grandparents GIVE me money or something else on birthday.

I remember seeing this little girl, about five or six years old, while I was riding the train to school. The kid's obviously rich, since she has a nanny tagging along with her (which made me wonder WHY would they take public transportation XD Maybe the car broke down) - and how I pity the nanny. The girl's obviously...spoiled. The train was full, and since she doesn't have a seat, the kid began wailing and harassing the nearest passenger to let her sit down! And no, she's not being a sweet 'little angel' - she's demanding for it! Fortunately for the little bugger someone let her sit down...but she didn't stop shooting her mouth off. It was a relief to be out of the train!
I had been quite...erm...pampered in my childhood, to to the point that I rage whenever people praise OTHER children when I'm around...and I had a difficult time growing up. It was difficult trying to interact with other people when you think yourself to be far superior than them.

Being an only girl, I have everything I want and need. Although, I learned to control myself and stop asking for more things. The only princess-y characteristic of mine is being proud (not as proud as an eagle, just simple proud) and not needing to do much chores. My parents pamper me, but they expect me to be better than other children. They want me to learn every musical instrument I can put my hands on. My grades, however are not a problem as I get them on the line of 9. I'm not rich, hey! Just normal.
![]() I know a friend of mine who's very very spoiled that she really acts like a princess. I can't even believe we're friends in the first place! And she bosses me and the others a lot. If she doesn't get what she wants, she throws a tantrum. Luckily, I am strict and serious (being the eldest of all my cousins, I really am) and can stop her. Seriously, I want to stomp on her so that I'll be superior to her. Muahaha! Just kidding. Now she's slowly turning into a nice, humble person. And thus, she's overcome her princess syndrome. Even by a bit.![]()
