''Here sit down for awhile.We need to speak about you living here with me.''Edna told Cain as he heard her brittle bones creaking as she brought a chair for him to sit in.

Cain sat down slowly still in pain and watched as the old lady sat down in front of him her feet barely touching the floor.As Cain was watching her feet swaying back and forth Edna spoke up.

''Ok Cain like I said I am a simple woman and live by myself.As you can tell it is hard for me to get around so I need a little help from you.And in exchange as I said you can stay here and have a place to rest your head and food in your stomach.''She told him looking into his eyes seriously

''I understand Edna.Whatever you need I will gladly help you and do what I can for you.''He said sitting back in the chair trying to maneuver to a position that wouldn't be so bad on his bones.

Edna got up and walked over to a small closet she opened.The closet was piled high with blankets and pillows.Cain was sitting hesitantly in his chair hoping all this stuff didn't fall down on the old lady he just befriended.After some close calls of seeing the blankets and pillows teetering Edna closed the closet and gave a blanket and a pillow to Cain.

''Here you go mummy.''She said as she handed the items to Cain.

''You can sleep over here on the floor in front of the wood stove since it gets real cold around here at nite.I will be in the other room if you need anything.But ALWAYS knock before you come in.''She told him forcefully to make sure he understood to knock first.

''Thanks Edna I appreciate everything I will be sure to knock before walking into the room.''Cain said smiling as he stood up.

Moving the chair into the corner of the room Cain set up his blanket and pillow in front of the wood stove.While laying down Cain reached into his pockets to pull out the precious locket.Grasping it into his hands he has always done whenever he fell asleep he took one last look inside.

''Goodnite family.''Cain said as he kisses the pictures inside.

Clutching the locket close to his heart he slowly began fading into a dreamworld.Somehow finding himself inside his mind standing in complete darkness he hears faint whispers off in the distance.

''You weak fool.You are worthless and will never be anything but worthless.''Cain heard as wind blew by his ear.

Dumbfounded Cain looked around quickly trying to look off into the distance.Waiting for his eyes to adjust to the darkness,his pupils dialated he thinks he sees a shadow and runs towards it quickly.

''Who the hell are you?I am getting tired of hearing you in my head calling me worthless and weak.I want to know who you are now.''He said angrily as he grabbed the figure on the shoulder.

All of a sudden Cain heard a wicked laugh coming from the shadowy figure as he turned around.All Cain could see was that he was wearing a dark cloak with a hood on that was darker then the pits of the night sky.

''I do not think you are ready to meet me yet,you weak fool.''Said the figure as he held out his hand Cain feeling himself being pushed back suddenly wakes up to the old lady standing over him.

''Wow it looked like you were having a weird dream.Usually I do not care but wow you were tossing and turning like crazy.''Edna told him as she opened her hand showing Cain the locket she found.

''Can I have that back please?''Cain asked her politely as he got up to his feet.

Edna opened it up and looked at the pictures inside and closed it and handed it back to Cain.

''So Cain I take it those people were close to you,were they?''She asked him curiously

''Yes this was my family that I loved very much.''He told her not wanting to go into more details of the haunting expierence as he put the locket back into his pocket.

''Well mummy get in the other room and wash up.I didn't want to say this last night but you really do stink to high Heaven.''She told him holding her nose.

Cain got up and entered the other room looking around and seeing a small wooden bucket with a piece of cloth in it.Closing the door behind him Cain undresses slowly and starts to wash the smell of the dirt and blood off of his body.Changing into some clothes he seen laying on the bed waiting for him he walked back out into the other room where Edna was waiting for him holding an axe.

''Well mummy it is time for us to begin our work for the day.Here take this axe and chop us up some wood.Although you will have to go into the forest first to find some to chop up.''Edna said holding out her hands so Cain could take the axe.

Walking over to her Cain reached out and gripped his hand onto the axe and it fell straight to the ground.

''Wow boy you do know that is pretty heavy there and it might take two hands to hold it and carry it.''Edna said laughing at Cain

Cain smirked at Edna and used both of his hands this time to pick the axe up and he put it over his shoulder and walked out of the cottage.

Looking around at the area,Cain stood for a moment to scope it out and try to think of where the best place would be to find some logs he could chop up for him and Edna.Finally finding a place he started to walk over to this lightly wooded area and started to look around for some logs.Finding a big log Cain knelt down to pick it up and when he lifted his head up he saw a deer in the distance.Catching eye contact with Cain the deer scurried off into the distance leaving Cain to remember once again about his family.

Flashing back in his mind Cain opened his eyes and saw his sister Kayleigh running after a baby deer.

''Come here baby I do not want you to run away and get hurt by the wolves in the forest.''She said yelling for the deer but to no avail.

She watched as the deer ran off into the distance jumping from left to right avoiding trees so it wouldn't run into them.Turning around Kayleigh ran to her big brother and wrapped her arms around his waist looking up at him.

''Brother?Is that deer going to be alright and find his family?''She asked as her eyes glazed over slowly.

Kneeling down in front of her,Cain rested his hands on her little cheeks and lifted her head to look into her eyes.

''I am sure the baby deer will be fine.I am sure it is running straight to it's parents and it will be fine with them.No more worrying alright?''He told her as a smile began to creep up slowly on her face.

Hearing a loud rustling in the leaves nearby him Cain snapped out of it and went back to gathering firewood.After a few hours of searching and lugging wood back and forth from the cottage,Cain started putting the blocks of wood onto the ground and began swinging the axe chopping them into 3 halves each.

Picking the wood up by bundles of 3 under his arms and carrying them into the cottage Edna had a place set up for the wood.Cain set the wood on a little white blanket so it would not scratch the floor.After about five trips in and out all the wood was taken care of.

''Well now that that part is done I need your help with something else.''Edna asked Cain

''Sure,anything Edna what do you need?''He said curiously about what she wanted.

Picking up a couple of buckets and handing them over to Cain.

''I need you to go down to the little river around the back of this place and fill these buckets up with water.''She told him

Cain turned around and walked outside around the back of the cottage.Keeping an ear out for the sounds of water as he was walking finally heard something in the distance.Following the sound he saw the river and knelt down.Filling each of the buckets up he got up and started walking back to the house.

''I still think your pathetic Cain.''He hears once again in his head trying to ignore it.

''GET OUTTA MY HEAD!''Cain yelled out to the voice haunting him.

Edna rushed outside to see what was wrong.

''What are you going on about now Cain?''She said in a huff trying to catch her breath.

Cain noticed the old lady only used his real name in times of sentiment when she cared.

''Nothing I am sorry I worried you Edna.I will try not yell like that again I am sorry.''He said trying to hide his emotions.

''Well alright,but if you ever feel like talking to me then you know where I am.Now get in there with those buckets mummy.''She told him as she turned around and went right back inside.

Following closely behind her Cain went inside and put the buckets on the ground where Edna pointed.He lifted his head to the smell of something sweet and his mouth started watering profusely.

''Well sit down mummy and let us begin eating.''She said as she turned around and handed Cain his food.

Looking down at the plate in front him Cain seen what smelled so sweetly.Bringing the plate up to his nose he took a big whiff of the apple pie Edna had made for the both of them.Reaching for the wooden utensil he had such trouble with the night before he started digging in.Hungry from the day's work he went through,he scarfed it up like he has never eaten before.

''Wow I am glad you like the food that much.We are running low on food so tomorrow I will let you walk to the market with me.Noone will mess with me with a big strapping lad like you accompanying me.''She said laughing and took both of their plates and began washing them.

Getting up and walking over to Edna Cain grabbed the washed dishes and began to dry them off.It was the least he could do for this old woman who let a total stranger into her house and treating him like a grandson.

''Edna I do not know how to thank you for letting me into your home like this.I have never met someone like you before.Without hesitation you took me in,and for that I thank you again.''He said while choking back tears again.

''Think nothing of it Cain I know there is something special about you and you never know I may feel something inside of you I can help you with.''Edna said drying her hands off and walking to her room.

''What do you mean ''special''?''He asked confused.

''Well we will talk about that when the time comes you are not ready to open up to me yet are you?''She said closing the door behind her.

''I guess not.I do not think I ever will be ready.''Cain thought to himself and made his bed again for the nite and once more grabbed the locket out of his pocket and kissed the pictures inside and held it close to his heart once more.

Closing his eyes slowly and drifting off to sleep Cain once again found himself in the dark recesses of his mind back where he was standing before he woke up.

''Do you feel me growing stronger inside of you weakling?''The strange figure lightly said into Cain's ear.

After hearing this Cain turned around quickly,seeing the cloaked figure once more that has been haunting him more and more as each day passes.Getting angry Cain jumped back from the figure to get away from it.

''I want to know who you are now!''He yelled out as his voice echoed in the darkness.

''You are going to find out soon enough who I am weakling.I am slowly getting more and more powerful within you and soon I will ta--.Well nevermind about that part you will find out weakling.''The cloaked figured told him as he once again held up his hand and Cain found himself flying backwards.

Thinking he would wake up this time he felt himself thump hard onto the ground.Thinking it was all a dream he suddenly felt a sharp pain on his butt.Getting up and rubbing his back side Cain ran toward the figure ready to confront it once more.As soon as Cain got close to the figure he seemed to draw farther and farther away from him laughing menacingly.

''Come back here and face me.''He said angrily as he was slowly getting out of breath from jogging after the figure.

Suddenly a bright flash of light shone into Cain's eyes blinding him.Covering his eyes trying to protect them Cain felt a hand on his shoulder seeming to pull him into another realm.Opening his eyes he turned around quickly and noticed someone before him he hasn't seen for awhile.Before he could open his mouth to say something he woke up to the light shining brightly into his eyes,and saw Edna once again standing before him.

''I do not know how you expect me to sleep mummy with all that fussing and moving you do in your sleep.''She said holding out her hand trying to help Cain up.

Wow posted way too much today my brain is fried lol.Hope people are still getting into the story and wanting more

Reaching up Cain took Edna's held out hand and much to his surprise Edna yanked him straight up off his bottom.

''Holy cow Edna I never knew you were that strong.''He said surprised.

''Well mummy you look at me and see a frail old brittled lady and what you do not know is I have a few tricks up my sleeve.''She said actually pointing up her shirt sleeve as Cain tried looking up there at the same time expecting to actually find something.

''You are aware that is just an expression right,mummy?''She said pushing his head away from her shirt.

''Oh yea I knew that I was just ummmmm''He stopped himself before he made more of a fool of himself.

Edna once again pointed to the bedroom and Cain knew what he had to do.He walked into the room and shut the door behind him slowly and undressed.Standing there as he was washing himself he finally took the bandages off his arm and looked himself over.Much to his surprise all his wounds seemed to be healed somehow.All he could see is a few scars where his arms and body were split open pretty well.After finishing up and washing himself he got dressed and stretched out his limbs feeling a little more limber,then walked out into the main room.

He saw Edna standing there and waiting for him with a satchel stretched across her shoulder.

''Come on now mum--.Well I guess I cannot call you that anymore seeing as how you got rid of the bandages and so forth.That is fine,I will come up with a new name for you.''She said looking him over pondering about a new name.''Oh well I will come up with something just give me time.''

''You know you can call be my name.I have heard you say it before so I know you remember it.''He told her hoping she would finally call him by his name everytime instead of just at certain times.

Good writing, Badmagick. This is an interesting story, and I'm looking forward to more.

Ummm, you do know that you can click the "Edit" button at the bottom of your last post if you have more to add, so they don't show as multiple entries? That's good if no one has made a comment yet and you have more to add - they're easier to read without the breaks...

Yea I seen it but I just do not want to make them too long ya know?Not sure how long you can make a post but will start doing that next post thanks for the advice.I will have to start typing it in word pad the copy and pasting it here.Never thought about doing it that lol

''Ah there is no fun in doing it your way.Besides I have never been much of a sentimental person so put that out of your head.You will learn more about me soon enough.''She told Cain smiling and opened the door for them to leave.

As they walked down the dusty road towards town they both looked around and at eachother wanting to say something but kept quiet.As they got closer to town a group of men walked passed them and tried grabbing onto Edna's satchel and she turned around and belted him hard in the ear.

''Damn grandma I just bumped into you what is your problem here?''The man said as his friends started crowding around Cain and Edna.

''You know well enough what I mean you young punk,now get out of here and go bug someone else.''Edna told him forcefully.

The men getting closer to them and crowding around begin to push Edna and Cain.Beginning to get scared Cain lowers his head hoping they would leave him alone like a frightened kid being screamed at for the first time by his parents.Edna never being one to ever get scared grabbed onto Cain's arm and forced her and Cain's way through the group of men and kept on walking down the road without a worry in the world.

''Well well.''Edna said said looking at Cain and shaking her head at him.

For the first time Cain looked at Edna and saw her looking at him like she pitied him.She just kept staring forward and walking to town in silence.Cain knowing he upset Edna just held his head low and kicked the rocks the rest of the way.Out no nowhere Edna grabbed his arm and he looked up suddenly and saw her pointing at the nearby village where they both could see people and their children running around.Coming up closer to the village Cain was amazed at the sight's he was seeing.He was looking around and seeing little children running around as their parents kept trying to keep up with them and catch them.He quickly began to get overwhelmed by everything and looked to his side and noticed Edna wasn't near him anymore.

''Oh no I am lost now and don't know where I am.''He said to himself as he kept staring around the village trying to find Edna so he could run to her as if he was a frightened child.

He started feeling a tug on his arm and looked down to see a child crying.He slowly knelt down and looked at the child.

''I want my mommy!''Was all the child could muster up to say through the tears and whining he was doing.

Cain remembered having to go out and find his sisters when they didn't come home on time and looked down at the kid and put his hand on his head rubbing it gently.

''Well give me your hand,and we will see if we can find your mommy.What is your name?My name is Cain.''He asked the kid softly not to scare him anymore.

The kid raised his hand up and put his shaking little frightened hand into Cain's.''My name is Jack.''He said trying to smile.

''Well,Jack let's walk around a bit and see if we can see your mommy.If you see her tell me and we will walk over and you will not have to worry anymore,sound fair?''He told Jack trying to be as reassuring as possible to hopefully make him feel a little better and less scared.

He was glad Jack came along when he did because it helped him forget his fears about being alone.Now he had someone else to share his fears with although if only a child.Helping Jack made him almost feel like he was worth something for the first time in a long while.

Feeling Jack grasp a little stronger onto his hand,Cain knelt down to reassure him that everything will be alright once more.As Cain stood back up Jack started pulling on his arm again and had a huge smile on his face as Cain looked down at him.

''MOMMY,MOMMY OVER HERE MOMMY!''Jack yelled excitedly.

''OH,my baby you're alright.Thank God.''The mother said as she grabbed Jack into her arms and giving him a big hug.Looking over at Cain she smiled.''Thank you so much for helping my baby.''She said as Cain began to go back to his search to find Edna.

''Ok,come on Tweedle Dum let's go back home.''He heard as he looked down and saw Edna with her satchel full of supplies.

Smiling,they both began to start their trek back to the house on the lonely dirt road.Being silent almost the whole way home Edna looked up at Cain as serious as can be.

''Cain I want you to tell me and tell me the truth.There isn't going to be anymore of this sad little orphan boy routine.I let it go on long enough.Tell me what happened to you in your past and why you keep making such a rucus in your sleep.''She said staring straight into his eyes.

''It is hard for me to talk about.''He said looking back down at the road.

Grabbing him under the chin and making him look into her eyes Edna starts to get angry.''Tell me now,Cain!''She said

''Well it all happened one day when I was out.I was walking down the road alone when I ran into this strange guy.After he walked off I thought nothing more of it.Then suddenly I heard a scream coming from down the road where I was walking away from.I knew it was my house so I rushed back there and everything seemed quiet on the outside.When I opened the door I saw the strange man standing in front of my family as they were forced to sit down in front of him.He had a wicked smile and those beady eyes so red and tainted I will never forget.He told me to watch him as he lifted his hand with a knife wrapped tightly around his fingers.Then he brought it down quickly and slaughtered my whole family.I still don't know why he let me live but he just seemed to vanish into thin air.''He sorrowfully told Edna tears welling in his eyes as he stopped himself for once and just began to walk again.

Edna didn't seem to be too surprised by the story she just heard and began walking with Cain once more.''Well that is along the lines of what I thought you would say.Let me ask you this Cain.Have you ever heard the term ''Hypovans''before?''She asked curious as to his answer.

''H-how do you know that term?''He asked curiously

''Well I asked you if you ever heard it before how about you give me an answer.''

''I heard it once before in what seemed like a dream.I just thought it was some kind of a delirious dream I was having.Something my mind was making up to try to help me forget about what was happening.''

''Well it was sort of a dream.It is hard to explain.I will explain it in more detail once we get home so let's hurry up before it gets too dark.''She told him as she was beginning to walk a little faster.

great story. Can't wait to read more, i like Edna. she's cool

Ah geez it will be about another day before the next part of this is up.Trying to figure out what kind of angle I want it to go in.

I know the feeling! I'm trying to work that out in Stella, too... Getting close - I'm thinking I'll finish it before AV3 comes out. That should be good timing, and I won't forget it because I'm playing the game, either! Looking forward to your next entry.

After a few more minutes of walking they finally arrive at home.Walking in Cain is all excited and and anxious to hear about what Edna knows of the Hypovans.After putting everything away they got from the market during the day,Cain sat down and looked up at Edna.

''Can you tell me what you know now,Edna?''He asked excitedly hoping to finally get an answer to the questions that have been burning in his mind for so long.

''Well,hold onto your britches boy and let me fix our meal and when we sit down to eat I will explain everything to you.''She told him trying to get the food started for the meal ahead.''Oh and go out and fetch us some logs so we can keep warm tonite,it is suppose to get cold.''

Cain got up with his head hung low and went outside to find some more wood.Walking deep into the woods as he was gathering piles he looked back and noticed he was lost.Frantically looking around starting to think he would never get back to Edna's he stopped and stood in place.

''Over here big brother.''He heard softly in front of him.

Widening his eyes trying to look around the trees he noticed a familiar face,and ran towards it.

''Is.....is that you?''He said running towards the vision.

''Over here big brother.''He heard again

Getting closer his eyes started to tear up as he got in front of the vision.

''Courtney?''He said softly and knelt down next to his sister and tried to touch her hand to no avail.Watching his hand pass through hers made it worse for him.''Wha----what is going on here?''He said out loud.

''I am here to help you brother.I am always with you and so is mother and big sis Kayleigh.We are always here and here.''She said pointing to his heart and to his head.''Whenever you need us most we will always be with you just remember that.''

As soon as she said that she pointed the way back to Edna's with her little hand and vanished.As Cain got up for some reason it felt like a wind of reassurance suddenly washed over him.He was once again invigorated and walked quickly back to Edna's.When he got there he took the wood inside and piled it up in the corner where he has been and sat down.

Sorry it isnt the longest of parts but I do not want to throw you guys slop to read.I want you all to hang on every word I have to say in this story

Since I am back now if anyone likes this story still it will be updated soon I have been gone awhile just give me a minute or an hour however you like to look at it :p
