The resolution for the problem posed by MJTh is often audio card drivers.
Now, I know that the install is a clean one of the OS, but not all hardware vendors provide their drivers on the Windows CD... and even fewer updated them as they should. It would be my advice to review the audio card you have, then visit the web site for that card and get the latest audio drivers. The game requires DirectX 8 compatible audio drivers to run properly.

If it's an audio card driver problem, would using a patch that sets their effects.txt and music.txt in the application data folder for Aveyond to a default value of "false" correct the problem? If that wouldn't work, what about a patch that would send the audio data to a null renderer?

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64. My Mother Board is the Gigabyte GA-MA7907X-DS5. I have 8gigs of the OCZ Reaper 1066-Mhz DDR2 Dual Channel Memory.
CPU is the AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core at 2.5 Ghz. Sound is built into the Motherboard. Video Card = Vision Tek HD2400Pro OC eddition. I installed the RPG maker softwarae as suggested by another user - but it didn't do any thing for my Problem of the RGSS saying it stopped Running when i Load AV3. I am about to remove all of the AV games form my system if i can not get av3 to work.

Sound is built into the Motherboard. have you checked for BIOS updates for your computer .. that might update your motherboard stuff. Or perhaps the motherboard's sound has gone kerflooey. In that case, you would either need a ne3w one, or simply install a sound card. I surely hope you can get it working.

For anyone that is experiencing the RGSS Player crash, please try the procedure below for me.
Go to RUN, then type DXDIAG and hit enter. A box might pop up that asks for a yes or no answer, hit YES. Once the program loads you should be looking at a box that has the title "DirectX Diagnostic Tool". Click the SOUND tab (it should be the 4th tab over from the left). Slightly past the middle of the box, on the left hand side should be a slider that has text on the left that reads "Hardware Sound Acceleration level". Drag the slider all the way to the left until the text over the slider says "No Acceleration". Once you have done this hit the EXIT button in the lower right hand corner of the box. Now try playing Aveyond: Lord of Twilight. If Bryce's assumption regarding the nature of the problem is correct then this should rectify any errors resulting from use of the audio hardware. In No Acceleration mode all the processing is done strictly at the software level through emulation and the device driver is completely bypassed, the hardware is only accessed directly at the most basic level for actual wave output. If this fails I would be very surprised that what is happening is indeed a program crash initiated by accessing the audio hardware.

Thank you! I was having the same RGSS has stopped working error. I followed the steps in post #34 and it was definitely a DEP issue. Thank you so much!

Since you stated that you tried almost everything from the earlier posting... is it fair to assume you've performed all the suggested updates provided on Windows Update?
Could you also provide us a few hints as to your system... of particular value are: 1) Audio Adapter... you can find this in DXDiag, "Sound" tab 2) Windows Version... you can find this by running "Winver.exe" As I often say... some hardware vendors don't want to distribute their drivers via the free service provided by Microsoft... if I know what your card is, I can look it up and make sure you're current. We can get you running... as long as your system itself is stable ![]()
