Speak to Hercules in Naylith, then speak to him in the Seer's Cavern, then kill the Giant in the Seer's Cavern. Stella will then open the way.

I went into the cave and Stella smashed the orb and there is some talk about getting out and going to Aveyond, but I still have to go the the underworld, so what now???

You need to go to the Oracle right now. First off, who are you trying to get Edward to end up with? If it's Mel, get all the attraction points for her and get him to propose to her before you go to the Oracle because something will happen that will prevent him from doing so. And why I'm saying this is because many people have gone over to the Oracle before proposing to Mel and it was too late before they could do anything.

Why do you have to go to the Underworld? Is it just the quest to deliver wine that's directing you there?
Go to Aveyond now. You'll soon have a way to get to the Underworld.
