What is the view requirements at the bottom of the posts all about?
It has Reply, Karma and then you can choose from 0 to 10000 and then it also has no requirement.
I was just curious what it is about.

I've noticed that too... at first I thought that this is just available when you create new topics, but now, using add reply, i see it down there too. hmmmm.... makes me curious...

Maybe the karma button can be eliminated if there's no need for it?

view requirement means you have to achieve the conditions set before you can view the post. kinda like a hide hack feature. although i've no idea what karma is yet... (karma=gold???)

This feature was available when the site was brand new last year, but Amanda turned it off because it wasn't very useful. I assume she'll turn it off again.

when you add a reply (not through fast reply), you get to choose the viewing conditions of your post, say you only want people who's replied to this thread to be able to read your post, and so on.

i think karma could originaly be given by other members to people... im not sure though, i just vaugly remember something like that. it could potentialy be useful, and abused.

I've seen this sort of thing in forums before actually, though I don't know what it would be used here for. When I posted a review of a sword in a sword forum, people gave me Karma for a good review. It didn't seem to have any real purpose there, though. A theory here is that it could be used in the collegium, or for good posts on topics. My theory, anyhow.

Just a note to anyone who has set karma requirements for his/her topics or posts ... no one will be able to see them, as no one has ANY karma points.

I was referring to the 'Reply' requirement.

I've launched my own silent protest, and WILL NOT reply to any topic that has it set. (I know no one will notice, or care, but it makes me feel better )

Karma can be useful, if not abused. The only places I've seen it work are where the Mods can increment or decrement the Karma rating, but regular members can't. If they see someone helping out a lot, they bump up their karma. If someone is constantly 'spammy' or rude, they drop the karma.

The 'karma' requirement for a topic seems pretty useless either way....

Are these karma settings set by people who post a new thread somehow related to the "To view this post, you must login and reply first." that I sometimes see as a first post of some threads??

It quite confuses me because I have no idea how this message is made appear and what it's purpose is. I mean, how are people supposed to reply when they can't see what is in the first post? - and today I even saw this as a first post of a thread asking for help in a game @__@

Yeah, if you start a new topic and look towards the bottom, you'll see "View Requirements" with three boxes next to it; one says Reply, one says Karma, and one says No Requirements.

The default is No Requirements but I think some people accidently hit one of the other buttons making it so that others need a certain amount of Karma or a certain number of replies before they can see the post.

So everyone that starts a new topic should just leave that on No Requirements, until this feature goes away completely.

This feature has gone away completely

When you create a new topic, you can no longer set viewing requirements - cannot specify karma points required for viewing, and cannot force viewer to post before being able to see the original post.

Please let me know if there are any problems. I am ASSUMING posts that already had these things set will just go back to normal now.
