I've searched but didn't find an answer to my question. Anyway, here is my problem. I tried installing RPG Maker XP, but every time I launch it, it gives an error and closes. It says "Failed to obtain a trial serial number from the n Titles server." So what do i do to open it? Thanks in advance.

it means that RMXP is having trouble connecting to the internet. you need to turn off all forms of firewalls that might be blocking it, and run it on an administrator setting. once you've entered your serial number (bought the program,) it should open up just fine even if you don't have internet access.

I tried disabling the AVG antivirus I have and tried right-clicking the icon to run as an administrator, but I didn't see an option for that. It only has an area describing the "powers" an admin has over the program, which says Full Control, and Write among other things. But does it mean I need to buy the program in order to run it properly, cuz I dunno if I'd want to right now...I have other things I want to get first. But if that isn't the case, then I already tried reinstalling and I tried your suggestion, Nick, except I couldn't find out how to run it as an admin.

are you running it on vista or XP?

Vista. Is this why it won't open? I noticed it doesn't include Vista in the system requirements.

It doesn't work on a few of my friend's computers, and they all have Vista. So, I don't think it does.

If I remember correctly though, RPG Maker VX works on Vista.

of course it works on vista, if you have the newest version.

In Vista, right click on the icon once, and select run as Admin. see if that works. disable your firewalls and make sure your internet is connected as well.

I couldn't figure out how to make XP work(there's no spot for "run as admin"; I think I already clicked that), so I downloaded VX, and it works! Thanks for trying to help
