Kbljkl, no, some people don't listen. Even a PM from an admin will not stop them spamming - some of them do it even more openly after being asked/told not to. They obviously don't read (or care about) what goes on in the forum either, because this morning's batch of deleted comments were all posted after this thread began. However, they read enough to know not to spam IN the forum, but to take it to the collegium and cottages as it's harder to track down. For this reason (they KNOW what they're doing is against forum rules), there won't be anymore warnings.

@kbl: you've been pushing 'democratic way' so I am not twisting your words. I am merely correcting them.

@agas: check guild hall and than whenever a 'beta testing' topic comes up sign up.

@shaz: good as a short term measure. Though what's gonna happen in the long run? Unless a crew of people religiously check the cottages/collegium every few weeks, people are going to slip through the holes quite easily

I will be checking regularly (every few days, not weeks) and cleaning up, until a more permanent / automated method is in place.

Umm..as much as i heard, only selected guild members can do beta testing. Not all guild members get to do the beta testing(I heard from one of my guild friends)

ALL guild members are ELIGIBLE to put their names forward to be considered as beta testers of a game. But of course, not ALL will be chosen. After all, there are only a limited number of available spots for each game's beta test.

But that's beside the point. The point is, members should NOT have spammed for gold for whatever purpose, guild admission or beta testing or any other reason. Remember, you are not a spambot, so for the sake of puddings, DO NOT ACT LIKE ONE.

It's sad that people don't have enough patience to spend time here to build up gold legitimately.

I like the idea of having a minimum gold count for being able to set up a cottage but I wouldn't want to set this too high. We want to encourage new members to stay and get involved with the site. My cottage is where I learnt a little about html and putting up backgrounds.We should keep the gold requirement achievable (maybe 50?).

As it's so hard to track posts made in the non forum areas it would probably make sense to cut out gold making ability there. Although I don't like the idea of seriously limiting the options of earning gold for genuine members. I guess this is another case of a few spoiling it for everyone.

Yeah, Collegium and Cottages are the perfect "gold mine". It's easy to spam and hard to track. I mean, posting at least ONE comment in ALL of my submissions could earn you 400 gold. Then they can also try and worm their way out by saying that they really like my stuff or something. Seeing 100+ comments all simply saying "LOL, it's good" is very annoying to see, though.

Is there a way to enable users to remove comments submitted to their Collegium submissions without the commenter's gold being reduced? After all, even if the comments are indeed sincere and the people are either too lazy to find the words or just can't think of any other thing to say (not everyone likes to ramble on and on like I do), it's bothersome to look at.

This has happened on Ryo's collegium entries too. Ryo'd log on, notice he a new comment, get all excited since Ryo loves comment, and then he'd get all sad cause it's be something like... "cool". >.> One word is not a comment...

It really get's Ryo all depressed when most of the comments he gets are "cool" or "its good". >.> Where's the meat!?

A little late here, but better late than never. I LOVE Moony's idea about buying the ability to post in cottages. Anybody who has visited my cottage knows just how much I love those pesky "welcome" messages years after I've joined, so I'm all in favor of Moony's idea. Obviously this won't stop everybody from spamming, but it should help reduce the number of spammers. I also think 50-100 is a reasonable amount, depending on whether the comments count for gold.

Also, I have a question. What is the consensus on the "report" button these days? I remember a while ago, tini said that the "report" button was for really serious issues like flaming. If we report a post now, what happens exactly? I think it would be helpful to have a "mark as spam" button or something intended solely for spamming issues (especially in the cottages/collegium). Not sure how much trouble it would be to implement this, but it's something to consider.

Another issue I'd like to comment on... I just checked my cottage and Wolfie left me a post a couple of months ago about the karma system that used to be on some incarnation of the website some time ago. He said it would be a good idea to enable restrictions such as allowing only members with X number of posts to post in your cottage. I think this could get fun (yes, I can be twisted sometimes hehe), but it would probably get too complicated. Right now I'd say the best solutions would be to 1) implement Moony's idea and 2) remove the gold count from comments. We currently have a lot more boards than we used to on the purple site, so that in itself should help people join guilds more easily. I used to like the idea of people being able to post in each other's cottages for gold since that IS being part of the community, but it seems that people just abuse the system more often than not.

P.S. wolfie, why do you have two accounts? And why do you use both accounts to post in the same topic?

@IvanaDeRossi: First of all, I think 'n00b' is a bit of an offensive term, and as a reply to your point about newcomers not knowing who are old or new, well, if they don't, they have no business welcoming anyone. If someone welcomes someone else, the welcomer has to have been at that place at least as long as the welcomed, preferably a bit longer.

I think I have way too many "Thanks for visiting" posts in my cottage I think at least those comments can be deleted? I'll just put one sign in my last page of the cottage. And I won't respond like that to every comment. I really didn't realize that I had made so many of those types of comments.

@wolfie: I know. When they only say "cool" and nothing else, it's very hard to believe the sincerity of the comment. Like most people, I love the comments, but these short less-than-five-words comments really tick me off.

@sana96: it is possible to delete ALL comments. Just PM a mod to do the housecleaning.

@whisper: the only problem why most suggestions can't be implemented is that we need someone that knows PHP to do the script, or something like that. Shaz mentioned this in an much earlier post.

IvanaDeRossi: My own cottage had a date in the title, almost a year after that date, someone welcomed me... so I'm pretty sure it's safe to blame them.
Ntm (as was said before) it doesn't make sense for someone who just came in to welcome those that came before.

DA: I know, I get irritated at the same sort of thing (not on here, as I haven't submitted anything as far as I remember, but in general. If you're not even going to look at the thing, why bother commenting.

misty: there are actually at least 4 or 5 accounts associated with he nickname 'wolfie' Some of their names I have forgotten, and their sole purpose was to put the plots of land together and build a mansion where only a cottage would fit before. (the area is now a seemingly abandoned construction site)
2 exceptions to this are 'wolfie' and 'wolfie_girl' . at this juncture I am not confirming nor denying their connection to me. (though I have in the past said I am not wolfie_girl, nor am I related to her, or even know her outside of the brief period when we met on am. so I guess I am denying that one's connection to me, because I have in the past and if I didn't things would get confusing.)
(actually, I think most of the aforementioned wolfies are MIA)
