(Really this should be titled Kirk Vs. Picard, as that is the real discussion topic, though you're welcome to talk about going to conferences!)

July is one of the most important months for us here at Amaranth. No, it isn't fireworks (we love them too). It is Casual Connect, a game industry conference for game developers like us! I bet many of you wonder what such an event is like & at 400-1,000+ dollars a ticket, you probably don't want to spend the cash to find out first hand. I'll give you the rundown of what goes down at such an event.

First, it's three days long. Each day has lunch provided, which most of us skip in favor of finding some friends or business contacts to go get real food with. Through the day there are 3 different speakers talking about all kinds of things in the game industry, every hour, on the hour. This means if you cared what other people were talking about you'd need 3 people at the show minimum to hear it all!

Second, the people who feel it is worthwhile have booths to talk up their products and offerings. This is everything from game developers like us to publishers, ecommerce vendors, and emerging technology.

Third, and what I spend all MY time doing, is arranging private meetings with the most important people at the show. This is everything from other developers to possible new vendors, retail publishers, and of course, our very valued current distributors.

I don't get to go to Amaranth HQ too often, so it is also an important time for me & the Amaranth team to meet and discuss our strategy in the coming year.
Oh yeah, and there's a party every night (several, in fact) complete with free food and an open bar. Sadly, there's nothing more awkward than a party populated only by game developers... dancing? Yeah right. Discussions about Kirk Vs. Picard? everywhere.

PS: Picard, all the way. Discuss!

Depends, are you talking classic!Kirk, or nu!Kirk. Because nu!Kirk could probably give Picard a run for his money. (And a horrible headache.) Picard has better taste in women, I think.

I'll go with McCoy.

Depends on what the situation is there.

Is it a fight where you use fists at? Send Kirk in.

Is it diplomacy, like contacting a new race? Send Picard in.

Have fun at Casual Connect guys. Don't forget to tell me any news (sitting down here, all by myself *sniff* ... feeling guilty yet? Nah, didn't think so) - and take pics!

Used to prefer Kirk, haven't really watched any TNG episodes, but the movies may have swayed me, so I'd probably go with Picard.

Anyway, Spock's taller than them both!

Picard, definitely Picard, although I loved the original Star Trek. I just appreciate peacemaking/diplomacy much more than fighting.

Side note: I remember my father & I greatly anticipating Star Trek's debut after we heard it was in production. We both were instantly hooked with the first show, and watched it faithfully. My mother? LOL ... she stayed in the kitchen while it was on. She's definitely not a science fiction fan.

Picard.

I'm a major TNG fan and a Trekkie because of it, but sadly the original isn't on much, so I've only seen two episodes... (and the new movie, but that doesn't really count.)

So, Picard, but I have insufficient information about Kirk to really decide. My friends and I have this debate a lot. XD (I've watched two episodes of original, they've watched zero of TNG.)

good timing to bump this! Our set-top box died a couple of weeks ago, and we allowed ourselves to be talked into getting TiVo as a replacement. We got it set up JUST in time to catch the very first episode of TNG! Looks like it's only running weekly, so at this rate, I should have seen every TNG episode by the time I'm 80

Lol!

I watch them with my dad, and in no particular order, so it took a while for me to see the first episode. XD

Go Kirk!
Or Janeway. She was cool.

Or, now that I come to think of it, T'Pol could be a much better captain than Archer, or Kirk. I don't know... I like Vulcans, so Spock and T'Pol. Yeah! Spock and T'Pol!

@Shaz: Ha. Good luck with watching all of them, one a week. Ooh.

Unlike Shaz, I'd of watched them all in ONE week rather than one per week... because while some people binge on chocolate or ice cream, I binge on nerdiness.

haha - don't misunderstand me I'm watching one per week because that's how often they're being shown. I HAVE been known to enjoy a week-long marathon of Voyager or DS9 or whatever else I could get my hands on, and we have our fair share of box sets in our DVD library. I also don't have time to binge on anything-tv these days. Maybe when the next game is out.

I doubt I could out-nerd you though, but it'd sure be fun trying

No idea about Picard or Kirk so asking an unrelated question, " Is the food really that bad?"
