Gack. Weird complicated chemical names + me = uselessness. I don't understand half the things people say when it comes to long chemical words.
@lovinlife: yeah, I've heard of the really COMMON ones, but if they get a little bit more complicated, I'm blank. And as for your advice about a textbook and a person who's good at chemistry, well, maybe I'll try that someday XP

i'm taking chemistry, and i mentioned this to my teacher, and he didn't know what it was. must be some really obscure kinda thing, you know? like top secret wikileaks-oops-i-posted-something-that-became-viral-overnight kinda thing.

Well high school teachers aren't always going to know specific things, especially Chemistry teachers. There a lot of different sub fields in Chemistry, and that name falls into one of the sub fields. So it's not really surprising your teacher doesn't know what it is.

lol. i was surprised that he hadn't heard of titin, not the long chemical form of it. if it's that inportant for your body, then why doesn't he know?

Because chemistry teachers generally are there to teach you chemistry, not biology, and appropriate level chemistry at that.
In chemistry, the teachers are generally more interested in teaching you have simple molecules react to each other and why they are doing that. Titin is huge and complex. None of my college courses would ever touch a protein this complex to analyze. Analyze its function in the body, but no way in heck would you be expected to analyze this sucker at the molecular level. That's just insane. Titin's function in the body falls in the biology section as a chemist's would study its structure and properties. And this being a protein, it would probably be under biochemistry rather than general chemistry. But what it actually does in the body would be more of a biologist work I think.

ah. it is biology. i will shoot it at the biology teacher then. maybe she will have heard of it.

lol, there's no need to do that. It’s actually biochemistry ;P
And even my sister (majoring in it), I doubt, has any idea about the how the 'entire' thing works (well didn’t really ask her, and don’t want to either XD)

It may be useless for you at the moment, but you will realize it soon when the time comes. I bet you're a student. On the other hand, chemistry teachers usually go to the basic details in the subject, starting from the history, going to the Octet Rule, then the PTE, then balancing, then some others before you get to Stoichiometry, Thermochemistry, Nuclear Chem, Bio chem, and Org chem. Just the simple details. I actually sucked at the end parts of Chem, since my preference is more on Biology, or the General.

@stardale: ditto, i like bio more than chem.
Biochem was such a pain. >_< I sorta like Organic chem, but that's cuz I got a really good teacher.

biochem? never heard of it....
in my school we have conceptual physics, then chemistry, then biology, then physics if you want it, but no biochem, that i know of.....

Biochemistry isn't offered at High schools. It's more of a college level subject.

yeah, highschool doesn't really get into specific subjects. It's general chem, physics, bio, etc.
College= learning about specific stuff. Like cell bio, genetics, evolution, biochem, organic chem, inorganic chem, quantum physics, etc.

Well, quantum physics is basically how this matter reacts with that one, how particles collide, along with the energy, what happens next etc. & how it happens and Of course, math is the language to it.
But its also got a lot more (when you learn in college), & it seems very very bewildering, too. ______________________ Gah! I hate Stoichiometry >.< I never get how you gotta balance a chemical equation – where you put what number in front of which formula, and how the entire chemical equation gets balanced, on both sides – I’m totally perplexed there. And there are millions of formulas to memorize (hate memorizing, understanding it is way better for me, which doesn’t seem to happen). Those moles are annoying as heck. And what result you get in the end, what color it forms, what happens when you redo the equation/reaction, blargh. I do have a good chem. teacher, but it still Just goes right over my head.

sooo basically, time travel.
![]() i love time travel. i should create a topic so we could just discuss it. i will do that now.

not time travel.
All our physics laws break when you start handling extremely tiny or large things. Quantum physics is to explain what happens at these fringes. Or that's the gist I got.

And 'Quantum' physics doesn’t have much relation with time travel either.

I saw this before in the back of dictionaries! I think it is false because since when have numbers been included in words?

@watershine: *skims titin's chemical name* what numbers?
And it is the official IUPAC name so its not fake.
