hey everyone
. So I was on the computer and I was thinking, wow, I haven't been on amaranthia in an unbelievable amount of time. (2 years I think) It made me so happy and really suprised to see this still active. I don't have time to read through all the opinions and no doubt heated conversations that I missed, but I just wanted to let everyone know how happy i was to see that this was still here ![]() P.s. Mom and Kate (my stepmom) are still together and happier than ever!

It is nice to hear that they are still together and doing well!
And I am glad to meet you, I have only been here for about a year. I too have a blended family - like we were picked up and dropped into the blender of life! But we are a happy family, though we are loud, and colorful.

Just stating the facts ( Not reading 24 pages)
1. Gay marriage will never happen until the seperation of state and religion happens. 2. Marriage does not mean much. It is just a legal document. It's not as if Gays procreate so marriage is just a piece of paper. 3. I am personally against this because this encourages homosexuality which can be harmful as procreation is necessary

@theone:
1. Gay marriage will happen eventually regardless of state/religion status because people are becoming more open minded. Younger generations in general are more accepting than older, and this trend will continue. Just have to keep spreading correct information and tolerance. This is for the US anyway. 2. Marriage means a lot to people fighting for the right to marry who ever they love. It's not meaningless to the gays who want to get marry. Portia explains it much better than me around 5:01 And procreation should never be important in a marriage. Or you're saying that sterile straight couples, or couples that don't want kids are ineligible to get married. 3. Homosexuality is not harmful. It's harmless. What does it matter if a person loves a man or a woman? Seriously, do you want people to nose around your bedroom? And how is this 'encouraging homosexuality'? You're either gay, straight, or something in between. You don't just wake up one day and decide your gay/straight/bi. What gay marriage encourages is acceptance of gays as normal human beings. They aren't freaks or monsters. They are simply normal people who happen to like the same gender. For analogy purposes: Should right handers gang up on left handers because we prefer a different hand for doing things? Does it really matter or harm a right hander in any way if I like to use my left more than my right? Of course not, and neither does one's sexuality. As for procreation: say that to all straight sterile couples. With human overpopulation happening, it would be better if humans didn't produce so many offspring.

Yup, we are getting more open minded generally. But this is one matter where we are just as conservative as we were 2000 years ago. We have gotten more open minded about science but this is one thing that has never changed.

@theone: But this has changed. And thank goodness we are not as conservative as we were 2000 years ago.
2000 years ago, women were lower than dirt. Slavery existed. Men controlled everything. Selling your kids and women to slavery was just fine. Homosexuality wasn't even recognized. There was literally no concept of homosexuality 2000 years ago. Now? Yes, homosexuality was originally thought of as a mental disease and treated as one. But now it is considered normal and completely healthy by the American Psychiatric Association. We got San Francisco, New York, and many other very gay friendly places. We got that judge who voted prop 8 down. We got homosexual actresses, politicians, workers, etc. Heck, we even got a few states and countries that allow gay marriage. Given time and persistence, its probable gay marriage will be accepted in all states.

@ KTC- In America and Germany, this is very tolerable, I agree. But check every other country and you will realise homosexuality is not tolerated.
Besides people who are gay themselves, people hate this. @ lovinlife- He is probly getting changed anyways.

The ability to marry only encourages two things: the ability to either learn to work your differences out between you or the ablility to get a divorce.
Historically unmarried people have been able to procreate at any time, so the legal status of marriage does not confer that ability. It does confer the right to own 1/2 of any property you may accumulate as a couple; the right to visit your dying spouse in the hospital and myriad other small kindnesses that we as human beings do not have the right to deny to another human being. I am a 'straight' Grandma, and I just see things from a perspective of a lot of experience in watching my own loved ones go through their trials and tribulations. I don't claim to be all knowing, or to know what is right in another person's culture. I just know that it is not my right to stand in judgement of another's lifestyle choices if they are not causing harm to society at large.

Gays themselves dont like the marriage concept. Just ask a few and they will say tht marriage is not important. When a community themselves think that you can see why there is bias.

@theone: Who are you asking in the first place? It sounds like you're not getting the opinion of the community as a whole.
Cuz all the gay and straight people I ask consider gay marriage important. ![]() All those gay protesters of prop 8 thought it was important. All those gay people fighting for gay marriage to be accepted in their state/country obviously think its important. You aren't asking enough people.

Well I believe it should be legal.
I mean, noone can get hurt by it. And marriage is very important for people who live together too. Gays are people too, they are just like everyone else. I once met a gay, and i didn't know that he was gay until he told me, so i don't see why it turned illegal in the first place...

@the one: what's your point?
Nick is saying there are some - not all- are against it for legality reasons. To them, it dilutes what marriage means. *shrugs* Nick himself is for gay marriage. It doesn't negate all the gay people and their allies fighting for gay rights though ![]()

Actually I think it should be legal, just stated what I thought was true for the majority. As Matri says they are people, not aliens. Let them what they want to. But the this happens, the president will be a socialist, communist, dictatorist, capitalist, insolent fool to most people and will be saying, " Prezzie go Bye Bye"

@theone: did you changed your mind? because only a few posts up you said:
3. I am personally against this because this encourages homosexuality which can be harmful as procreation is necessary Now I'm confused about what you're talking about.

Personally against homsexuality being adopted in general. I am sorry that I was not more clear there. But if two consenting male gay adults want to marry, I see no reason to stop them.
Though when it comes to adoption of kids, I am against gays being allowed to adopt kids. As this would lead to more and more homosexuality.

No, not really, just cuz your mom is a doctor, doesn’t mean you will want to be one too, when you grow up. Same goes for growing up gay or not.
It’s the kid that chooses what she/he wants to become in the future, he/she does not need to follow his/her mom’s footsteps.
