This is kinda a seperate section based off of this discussion.
Walz music is downright amazing. I think we can all agree on that. But what about other video game music? Do you think that video games could just be played on mute and be enjoyed as much? Basically, do you think that music in a video game is a separate component or part of the game? I believe that it is part of the game. If you played the game without the music, it loses some of it's magic.

No, music for me is so important as the the story of the game itself, so a game without good music is not worth playing. Squareenix which created Final Fantasies are awesome, specially Final Fantasy XIII musics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfu0XBf8kmk
This is FFXIII battle theme, I'm sure that lot of people will fall in love for her. ![]()

Music is a great part of anything. It brings out feelings that contained. That's why we found musics in religions, parties or as entertainment. And games are included in as well.
Is music in games was a still component or not? There're 3 main components: story/conversation/condition, expressions, and music. If there was a story supported by music, take it as a drama musicals. They'd be less at coversation, that's why they have more with music. Those three always need to supporting each other to bring a right impression of something they brought. Especially in visual novel, which have those 3 too, with more extent in graphic and expression, also supporting musics background. I don't know of any game that doesn't use musics, lol overall: you may try to kill your speaker and play your favorite game to find yourself bored and sleepy. You need music in it!

I'm able to play games without the music, but I actually like listening to the music in video games. It isn't necessary for a game, but it enhances it, and makes it feel like a quality game.
You can have amazing graphics and a great story, and you might not need the music. It's still a good game. For example, if one of the Aveyonds had no music, we'd still all play and enjoy it, but it would be missing a part. With music, it's more complete. Also, when you get a downright catchy piece of music at only one part of the game, people will want to get back to that part again to listen some more. Up goes the replay value. ![]()

Well, for Ryo it really depends. If Ryo's randomly level grinding, he'll often listen to a different song. (Ryo cannot play a game in silence, but if the battle music isn't amazing, Ryo can't listen to it for hours on end.) However, for the most part, Ryo has to listen to the music. In a horror game, the music and ambient noises can really set the mood and make you get scared by things you normally wouldn't be scared by. Music can be used to make an extremely sad scene even sadder. Ryo thinks that the music choices for a game are very important.

For me, it depends. Don't hate me, but I mute the music and sound in Aveyond (gasp!). It's because I often find the music for the zone just doesn't fit, but then I can never separate the music and the area and it makes me dislike the area. I'd rather just put on my own music, which I won't really connect to the game, and not risk that I'll hate the music playing (although I do admit that some of the tracks in Aveyond are really catchy).
However, when I'm playing console games and such, I won't usually mute the music. I still often get annoyed at it, but I'm too lazy to go get my ipod while I play or whatever. :3 I think the music in a video game can add a lot to the experience, but I don't think it's tied to the game; if the game is good then it doesn't need the music, although it might benefit from it. Games can definitely be enjoyed without the music, but they might be enjoyed more with it. ![]()

@ipink: eh, I replace some of the music for aveyond too, particularly the 'battle music'/'you win' music. No variation in that + farming for gold/exp = I get irritated by the repetitious music.
Videogame music: Music sets the mood more often than not. Wrong music + scene = jarring experience. What's worse is if there's no music for the whole game, a fighting rpg. Made it boring enough that I quit the game. So would I play a game without any music? Going from my experience of game+ no music, no I wouldn't play. I most likely will fall asleep while playing.

I actually only tried the Aveyond series because a friend of mine was playing it while I was at their house, I heard the music, feel in love with it, looked up the game, and... Yeah. Rest is history.
For me, the music is a key element for the first playthrough (if it's the type of game where you would have playthroughs, that is). After that, though, it doesn't play as big a role as it once did. Still a pretty big one, though. I really don't play video games that much (if at all. I've only started Millennium but couldn't get through it, played Av1-Av3, and played RuneScape for a short half-year period. I've tried a few homemade games here and there, too, but... yeah. Not much of a gamer.), but I do think that music adds a lot. Adds a lot, but isn't necessary. So, to me, it's a separate component. But it's always nice to have that separate component.

Music adds colour to a video game an extra component that moulds it all together. If there was no music in video games it would be like cake without sugar.

It happened once or twice before, that I've played a game with not enjoyable story and characters only because I found the music interesting..of course I ended giving up because I can't play boring games XD
For me music is really important. I sometime dance while playing..which is hilarious XD but like I said I love music. when I first tried Aveyond I fell in love with the opening screen and the Sedona music that is playing...man I was like wooow. Also nothing beats AV 2 and AV3 battle themes that I fell in love with the first time I heard them...man even if I didn't have any reason to level up I continue fighting only to hear the music XD I own the CD's but hehe this is more fun cause you're fighting XD

Music is the reason I even started making games. I am a composer first, and I wanted to have some sort of outlet for my composing.

Nah, i was just started to play TDP, and i don't know why, but it lacks at music. I don't mean about unmatched music, but the back musics are somehow missing. There're only few places that have the music, most in caves. Even in battle too, it doesn't sound anything besides the attacks, magics and when it's accomplished. It does make me bored and sleepy and it felt like doing nothing but reading story and take the fight..

I think music is very important for a game. It's says a lot about the effort that has bun put in the game. I also noticed that I never ever can remember the music of games and movies, but when I hear them,I am completely satisfied and I think "I will never forget this music", well until I walk away at least.

There should be music in all these cases. Check your settings to make sure BGM is turned on.

@arggie:
Everything checked. Nothing wrong with the settings. The music background just didn't sound out. It only shows up in certain dungeons and battle's attack sound and dying warriors. I tried for the previous aveyond1, and it's okay. Even the build B does the same thing.
