Upcoming story. (I hope it's legal to post this)

I desperately need to write this, for catharsis/therapy... But before that I'll have to actually finish the game at least once, I think. Just to decide which subplots I actually feel like including.

This follows my personal fanon timeline for what happens in the four-part aveyond orbs of magic series. I'll explain:
3-1: School year: Ed and Mel become friends. For Ed, Mel is a spark of excitement he's longed for, as well as pretty much the only person who doesn't have any expectations of him as a prince. For Mel... Ed is this annoying person she just can't get rid of! ...that's her tsundere side speaking. There's actually something refreshingly innocent about him as compared to the hardened streetfolk she's used to. So, yeah, he's sometimes irritatingly smug and he tends to be overly confident in his own opinion (aka: a know-it-all) but she ends up, against her will, kind attached to him. Game: Then Mel ends up getting triggered on her huge adventure. Ed insists on coming along.
3-2: Ed, having realized he's been in love with Mel for a while, finally starts actively courting her. In between the gift scene shown within the game itself there's a lot of other interactions going on outside of the gameplayers realm of vision, an ongoing process which culminates in Mel agreeing to marry Edward, despite some very serious misgivings having to due with personal shortcomings on each of their parts.
Interlude: The wedding. I wrote a story for this before 3-3 came out. In it, they end up getting married, and I only allude to some of the underlying issues. However, when they ended up not getting married on the one hand I was bitterly disappointed. On the other hand I thought this meant when they finally would get married some of the issues would be resolved. So. Here we proceed to:
3-3: Mel's chronic insecurities come to a fore when the whole wedding mixup happens. Deep down inside she's never been able to believe this was possible. She runs away. Ed chases after her. When they meet up she proceeds to act as if the huge traumatic thing that just happened didn't, in fact, happen. That's not because she doesn't care, it's because that's Mel's coping mechanism (see: end of 3-3). Ed's having none of this, so (again in off-screen scenes) he ends up reassuring her as to where they stand. Thus we find ourselves at the end of 3-3.

as far as I was concerned, the end of 3-3 indicated that things were still fine between Ed/Mel. You can argue that Mel's repeated insistence that she doesn't have magic might have been a hint of trouble--
But firstly, the very last line of the game is "Hey, wait for me!" That doesn't sound like a very "okay, now I'll run away from you and hide" kind of line to me. Especially seeing as a second ago Mel agreed to the plan.
Secondly, that entire dialogue felt like that two of them had a sort of rapport/understanding. And I didn't think Mel was stupid enough to actually think her problem could go away if she ignored it.

As a result, the opening of AV 3-4 was very jarring for me. Now, it happened to be that I came up with some rather extreme fangirlish scenarios that I knew weren't going to happen-- but what actually did happen was a shock. It made absolutely no sense with what I had thought was being set-up through all three previous games, with any of the growth I thought the characters had experienced.

And I've heard rumors that continuing to play the game all the way till the end will not yield much higher satisfaction. Which makes playing it feel pointless to me, but I'll persevere, for my (apparently non-canon) Ed/Mel ending.

On that note, seeing as clearly all my waiting for the canon version was slightly pointless, I present, what I wish had actually happened in 3-4, Blurble style: (which is to say, Mel goes with Edward to the Arishta isles of her own bloody free will, instead of him suddenly turning into a huge jack*** and basically selling her off, instead of him then forgetting everything he's learned over the past couple of games and refusing to believe her when she comes to him for help, instead of him going off gallivanting with stella while Mel is, as far as he knows, LANGUISHING AWAY, instead of, yeah, pretty much everything that I've gotten to thus far in the game that has made me sad) (AND CAN I SAY THE KATIE SUBPLOT TICKED ME OFF. I will probably be rewriting that rrrrrrr.))

Nonetheless, this is so totally still happening =D

The "Katie" subplot? Why does it bother you that much?

And yeah, I do agree TDP seems to be very... disconnected with the previous 3. Will not rant about it here because I don't think this is the place for it.

I will look forward to this story too, because I want to see your take on this, especially in regards to the final boss of the game. Slight warning: it's so wth-worthy that I daresay it's on par with my crack stuff..

As always, this storyline alludes to the original but still has a touch of our very own you. Good job, I look forward to this.

re: Katie: ...I was somewhat enjoying the slave/prince romance up until the point where OMG SHE'S ACTUALLY A SECRET PRINCESS.

...so if you're of "low birth" the only way you can be together with a prince is if you're actually secretly of noble birth yourself? urgh. add to that the fact that I was mad that after 300 years veldarah still hadn't overcome it's slave problem (the non-canon ending of aveyond 1 has it ending, so add another strike to the list of reasons the canon ending sucks) and... yeah.

Alright, off to finish the game. Just totally screwed up my main save, which means I have to backtrack about... half an hour's worth of gameplay... but oh well. (the autosave in this game seems a bit wonky)

Aaaah, just what I wished for. Another Blurble story. My new year wish has come true already.

oh man, plotting this is SO MUCH FUN.

...the plot is going to be pretty radically different, that much I can tell already. I mean, I already have a full page of description of just the political environment this is all taking place in.

Nonetheless, there's no way in heck it will be anything other than Mel/Ed. I mean there will be snatches of Lars--->Mel and Stella--->Ed and other pairings not involving those two (T/G, K/P...)

...but I'm a diehard M/E fan. Sorry. not gonna change.

What if you fall in love with your Lars character so much that you decide to stick Mel with Lars? I mean, I'm sure that he'll be more likeable than Edward in TDP. Edward was horrid. I never had a problem with him before, but I started to hate him... Maybe I'm less happy with the StellaxEd ending than I thought. XD

In TDP, Edward seems a bit cranky. He gets mad at every single thing and Stella has to stop him. I attributed that to Mel's absence, but the whole StellaxEd canon thing blew that out of the water.

And no matter how much we fall in love with the Lars character we created ourselves, the fact remains that 'we created him ourselves'. If his personality isn't the same in canon, we can't stick Mel with him no matter what.

Well considering Lars has no personality in canon, we can kind of say whatever we want about him. I mean, it's unlikely that the next AV will include him at all, except maybe a brief reference. I say you can do what you want with it when you're thrown vague canon.

Doesn't change the fact that the canon proclamation just made me facepalm. Ed x Stella and Lars x Mel were way too forced. They were building up Ed x Mel for three games straight and they suddenly turn the tables over because 'it'll be too predictable'? And they stick Mel with some random new character whose name only appears at the end. I'm not buying it.

You know, I kind of think Amanda sticking Mel with Lars was kind of an apology for the canon ending in AV1, although it's probably made fans as angry as the whole Dameon thing by not having Mel with Edward. XD I was really surprised at the fact that Mel didn't end up with Edward too, honestly. I just don't hate it. XD

It seems really strange though that Amanda didn't at least stick Lars at Shadwood Academy or something. At least then we'd have some context and some attachment. It would have been even better had he been a ninth party member. >.>

^ Yeah, that's true. Ah well.

I feel really bad for all of the MelxEd shippers. It's like waking up on Christmas and there being no toys for the first time. But I simply ship Stella. So whatever's best for her is fine with me. XD

Ah nevermind, it's not like I ever got to celebrate Christmas anyway. ><
