I don't think anyone deserves to die. However, I think some people need to die for the safety of the public. I don't believe in punishment except for prevention. I would not spank a child unless I believed that it would keep them from doing it again. If someone murdered my mom I would want them to be locked up so that the same would happen to no one else, not for revenge or whatever. My policy is fix and forgive. If someone needs to die for the better of the public, then perhaps they should. But not for any other reason.

Need: a requirement, necessary duty, or obligation

Deserve: to be worthy of, qualified for, or have a claim to reward, punishment, recompense, etc.

Someone may not be worthy of death, but the death sentence or whatever targets them for the safety of others. What someone deserves can be very different from what they need and what they get.

It is a contradiction. If someone needs to die, then they deserve the death sentence. It's true what someone deserves can be different then what they get. But when you say someone needs death, you're simply saying they deserve it.

If someone is worthy of death then it is necessary and they qualify for it.

I am not saying they deserve to die.

Of course not, because you don't understand what you're saying. You're saying they need to die. But you don't understand that you're contradicting yourself.

Again, if someone is worthy of a death sentence, that means they qualify for it, thus meaning it is necessary.

Apparently I am saying it wrong then. I don't think anyone deserves to die. I'm saying it could very well be for the greater good, and therefore might be better if they died. Doesn't mean they deserve it. That better?

No. You're still contradicting yourself. But I'm not going to argue with you about this, since it's clear you don't understand.

If they need to die for the "greater good", then they deserve the punishment. These two ideas are linked.

I understand perfectly clearly. You don't. No person deserves death. Every person is a beautiful creature that deserves life. But some of these creatures, while still deserving of life, cannot safely reside in this world for the sake of other people. They do not deserve death; other people deserve a secure life. One is not more deserving than the other. However, one denies the other their right. All deserve to live, but some cannot in a world that still retains the rights of everyone else. It is not a matter of what a person deserves at all.

But I am done with this argument. I know and understand exactly what I am saying, and you do not. That won't change whatever I say.

I believe someone only deserves to live if he contributes to the well-being of the planet, so this would also mean that everyone who causes more harm than he does good, would deserve to die. (of course this is theoretical, as good and bad are not fixed standard, not even to mention that you can't measure how good or bad someone is)

This would mean that a lot of people deserve to die, but that doesn't mean that they should die of course. it's not because you deserve something that you get it.

I think if you take a life, you deserve to die. I get depressing facebook groups constantly, one of the recent ones was about an 18 month old whos stepfather broke his back in 4 different places, his brain was bleeding and fluid leaking into his lungs. He went on like this for 4 days without medical attention before he just fell over. His grandmother laid him down on a picnic table, and he died, right there. 18 months old.




His stepfather only got 30 years. I'm a firm believer in this being the only life we have, and things like this just sicken me. Imo, not only does he deserve to die, but he deserves to have his back broken in 4 places, bleeding in the brain and fluid in his lungs before he does.

His mother didn't defend him either. She let the stepdad shake him, beat him, and tell him to be a man and grow up. He was a baby. and she complained he was a whiny child and said that because of what happened to him, people were ruining her life.

soooo a person who kills another in self defense deserves to die. That's not comforting at all.

If somebody takes a life, he's not necessarty the only one to blame.
for example: a father kills his baby by shaking it too hard because it didn't stop crying.

perhaps the mother forgot to feed the baby, or the doctor didn't see he was ill, or his boss gave him a lot of work.
He could be a very good father, but only that moment it was too much for him, and he did something he regrets later, should he be killed?

a lot of different things influence the situation, so the situation is a lot more complicated than a life. Of course, this doesn't mean that there should be no punishment, or that it is ok that such things happen

so its ok if i come over and stab you because I had a bad day? I mean maybe you mouthed off and I was in a bad mood or something, and if you died it wouldn't be completely my fault, because you were being loud.

She meets this guy, he's great, but things set him off and he beats her constantly. Dinner late on the table, she says something he doesn't like, confronts him about something, he beats her. He says sorry later, but he keeps doing it. He was just having a bad day and it was her fault because she set him off. That's the logic you're going by. Imo, short tempers do not justify murder.

KTC we went over this in the other thread. Self defense isn't murder. It's self defense. You know, like what Jlo says when she kills her husband at the end of the movie. >_> I guess I just fail to understand the people who sympathize with the criminals rather than the victims. I've got kids. I've lost my temper loads of times, but I never killed anybody. Most people don't and everybody who has kids has been in the situation.

hmm, what about if the killing was an accident?

A realistic scenario is this: You're driving along, minding your own business [not being high, drunk, etc. and you're being a responsible driver] when this dude who's not looking where he's going runs in front of your car. It's too late to hit the brakes so you hit and kill him. And for simplicity sake, let's say the driver doesn't hit and run but actually stay on scene to help any way he can even though its too late for the pedestrian.

Now, does the driver deserve to die because he killed that careless pedestrian? By your own quote, yes he does. However, I'm not sure I would blame the driver in this scenario or say he deserves to be punished.

Accidents happen. Went over this in the other thread as well.. Not to mention it was kind of the other dudes fault, don't you think?

Or, to make it even murkier and to show not everything is as black and white as we like it, consider assisted suicide aka euthanasia.

A patient is terminally ill and is in horrible pain. There's no way to cure said patient and the patient will die a very painful and slow death. The patient requests euthanasia which the doctor performs.

Now, does this doctor deserve death because he ended the patient's life at the patient's own request?
