though shark fin soup does taste good lol.
on another note: appealing to emotion argument = blah. Try cooking live crab. It's worst. Can you imagine having your back ripped off you, your inner organs and stuff scooped, and finally your limbs chopped off? All while your very much alive? mercury argument = blah. Fish has mercury, though not enough to kill you unless you eat a lot of fish everyday. Btw, fruits/veggies have pesticides. Chickens have bird disease. cows can have mad cow. mean in general has hormones added. Canned goods can have harmful bacteria growing in them. Sooner or later, you're not going to be able to eat anything except manmade mush. Only argument worth something = sharks are endangered. Fair enough.

Actually, I go for Shark's fin for the texture. Sharks' fin on its own has no taste.

@kirroha: true true, its all about how you cook the suckers.
One time my mum cooked fish so it looked like chicken, tasted like chicken, and even the texture was like chicken. Took a couple of days for the fishiness to be apparent. Very strange.

My mom cooked shark's fin in eggnog soup during Chinese New Year this year. Tasted like water. And egg. Doesn't change the fact that sharksfin texture is superb though.
And you had me relieved with the mercury thing.

shark's too expensive to buy here so we don't get it a lot. Don't remember the texture though I liked the way it was cooked.
Mercury: this webby's useful Though I'm skeptical about their shark claims. Since the fins are only a small part of the shark body, I wonder where the mercury is concentrated in. Also, since I don't think most people eat a lot of shark fin soup everyday, how much is too much? (lol! we're talking about eating shark fin and its texture on an anti-shark hunting thread!)

Am I the only one who hates the taste of fish? I think we should let sharks stay alive. I suppose I'm biased because I don't like sea food but you shouldn't hunt an endangered species

@theone: you're probably not the only one who hates fish lol.
As for hunting endangered species: that's really the only good reason for not eating sharks. Though after the whole Jaws debacle, I'm quite sure many people would rather all sharks die anyway.

Seafood is the best food. Or maybe it's just because I'm Chinese and love Chinese delicacies.
And sharks' fin is really very expensive even here, KTC.

i prefer chicken. Than again, chicken is a lot cheaper so my mum does her cooking magic way more often on it than fishy stuff.
When she cooks seafood ... *drools* fin: okay.
