"The Planet is dying!" Quote from FF 7,and same happens here.People owe a lot to the planet,to speak like in FF 7.I think that people soon enough will wake up,finally,and realize what the is happening to our planet.It won't take long,I am sure of it.

So, I'm sure that most people have heard of the apocalyptic prophecies that were floating around. For those of you who haven't, all people who believe in God were supposed to go to heaven, and it would be hell on Earth. This was supposed to happen on May 21 at 4 PM. It obviously didn't happen.
I was reading some news reports on this, and there are apparently people who spent all of their money just because they thought that the world would be ending. I feel bad for them. Here are some links to information about this: Link 1 Link 2 I didn't believe in these apocalyptic prophecies from the moment I heard them. I feel really bad for the people who believed in this stuff. I can't believe that people would actually throw away their money and such just because someone said that the end of the world was coming. I'm an atheist, so that might be a reason as to why I didn't buy this. Sorry if you did believe this, and this offends you. What are your opinions about this? Did you believe that the end of the world was coming?

You're an Atheist? Me too.
I think it was silly to do absolutely anything you want to, no matter what. I mean, what if it turns out you're not worthy of Heaven just yet? Plus, religious beliefs have always been a little shaky, especially due to the large number of them. It's not all that good an idea to predict something so definite for your religion. Sorry, people who believed that, it's my opinion partially because I'm Atheist.

yay, more atheists XD
I think they're idiots. If not idiots, than gullible fools. Seriously, there's been A. Lot. of so called doomsday prophecy and none of them turned out to be true obviously. Camping's next prediction of Oct. 21st isn't going to be true either. That is his third attempt at getting the date right. When are his followers gonna realize he's just an old geezer looking for attention.

At the same time, I'm a little bit disappointed that it wasn't true. I'm fine with being instantly flown to heaven... What's amazing is that he's convinced his followers of the end of the world three times now.

@ipink: probably only his followers would have been 'flown' to heaven. The majority (read: 99.99%) of the world would be damned.
Or as george carlin put it (i'm paraphrasing): God's gonna damn you for eternity cuz you ain't the right christian, but he loves you and that's why he's doing it. I honestly never understood hellfire and brimstone preachers. Stop spamming my mailbox k?

@KTC: That's why I don't follow those kinds of religions.
My religion cares a lot more about being a good person than anything else. If you aren't actually a member of my religion, our leaders don't condemn you. In fact, you aren't condemned no matter what you do, which is how all religions should act, considering the Bible explicitly states that nobody is beyond repentance. Anyways, I'm kinda getting off topic here. ![]()

Wait, you're exaggerating, KTC. I'm not so idealistic I believe the world is full of nice people, but at least 30% of the world would be deserving of Heaven, if it exists.
Wait, there was some guy who predicted this...and other world ends? Okay, people can believe God or Christ told them important things. They can believe something like that will happen. But, seriously? One guy claims God, or Christ, or whatever told him this, and tons of people believe it? That's...uh...well, to put it bluntly, stupid. Sorry if any readers of this post believed him.

I just don't get it. I said it before, but I'll say it again: If you believe in the Bible and what it says, predicting the rapture is absolutely pointless. The Bible says no one but God will know when it will take place. So why are there so many people trying to predict this event? (Money? 'Fame'?)
About predicting the 'end of days'- well, you could pretty much make a case that we've been in the end of days for hundreds of years. You could basically take any war, famine, natural disaster and say 'Oh, it's the end of the world.' Yeah. Can you tell that I get frustrated by this? I may be an atypical Christian, but I am a Christian, and what these people are doing while claiming to be followers of Christianity make me want to bang my head against some hard object. Repeatedly.

Well, they don't shame your religion or anything. They're kind of stupid, but there are thousands of stupid people in every religion.

There are millions of stupid people, regardless of religion.
However, the people who shame Christianity make me want to bang their heads against something repeatedly. ... I think I might have anger problems. 0.o Anyway, that was off topic.

@caaaat: I am not talking about nice people vs bad people. i'm talking about the people part of a religious sect vs the people not part of the sect.
Surely you've heard the common threat: JOIN MY SECT OR YOU'LL BURN IN HELL. (Btw, I hate this threat. So what you're saying that you can do tons of horrible things but as long as you join this sect/get a confession/etc. you're fine? But if you're like me, a person with morals who just happens to reject every sect, you'll burn in hell? Anyone else see the problem with this logic?) If he's like those annoying hellfire/brimstone preachers, than only his followers would be let into heaven regardless of their actual conduct.

Well, I have been thinking this lately. The hell? Everyone knows that no one can predict when the world ended. Even if they manage to, God will definitely change the date, lol.. Who knows who's right? XDD
Or could be said, that the humans themselves will destroy this world. Is it about diseases, or how we do to environment, or maybe the mighty. Who can know when?

I didn't read any posts
. I'm just replying to the topic itself. The greenhouse effect is not a theory. It's a scientific fact. As for the meteor theory--I haven't heard that one. And finally, the 12/12/12 12:12 (isn't that what Al Gore said?) is highly unlikely. Things that would cause that are likely to take at least several decades.

Just wondering. Since no man knows the date and every man predicts every day then will the world ever end? Rhetorical question.
As for Camping, third time lucky maybe? XD

@theone:
that's it. Well, what is the end of world? Mankind's extinction or the world completely destroyed? If it's the world that completely destroyed, then i think it won't happen. Like you said, since humans keep guessing time to time, the date will keep go on. Also, even this earth is getting rotten, i think it still has time to let human do something.

@shadowshed
Actually both will happen eventually. The sun is a star, and like other stars it will die. But fortunately for us, it'll be billion of years before the sun dies.

Agreed. not to mention lots of things can happen in those billions of years.
Ice age, continents moving, earth magnetic core switching again, really bad meteor strikes, etc etc. Humans been around for barely 10000 ish years and we've had a lot of trouble with that. I can't really imagine us still being around those billions of years later lol.

No planet or species will last forever; well, a planet could if there was some source of unlimited fuel for it's sun, but that's highly unlikely. Even if Earth lasts until the sun dies or explodes, humans will likely be extinct by then. Even if we survive, we'll evolve.
