Tales of the Seven Jewels :: Parts One and Two
Beyond Light and Darkness, the True Struggle hasn't yet begun
By Amy HM aka Lynoa06 aka Aveyond06..

Tales of the 7 Jewels is a free RPG set in an immersive fantasy world of knights, magic, and forgotten lore.

The Crystals, forged by the Gods of this World a thousand years ago or more, are sentient beings that shed their light over the whole realm. Without the Seven Crystals, the land once soiled by bloody wars would become sterile, and life would become impossible. Or so the lore says.

Yet the Crystals are beings and seek constant attention. Should the Dark Side worship the Crystals deeper than the current world, then shall they Shift, their holy barriers becoming necromantic, and the world will dive in Darkness and war.

And the never ending peace that followed their creation seems, ironically, to come to an halt. Gods awaken and shatter the earth, while an hero stands and falls before the Tidal Wave that destroyed his city. While what remains of the elvish kingdom of Elvenwyyr moved into the mountains of Frostenfall, awaiting the right moment to attack the opposite kingdom of Tyria, the world darkens and slowly sinks in Darkness..

A fallen and pretendingly amnesiac mage seeking redemption and self-congruence, a woman who for an illusive love ventured deep beyond enemy lines, a Paladin to be crowned as the savior of his nation - and an epic adventure in a cute, chibi "faux-16-bits" time begins, as they unawarely change the ways of the world.

And this is where the Tales of the Seven Jewels begins, beyond even Light and Darkness...

Characters

Bly'the, the elemental-focusing High Mage. They used to be a hero, but retired when half they hometown was crushed. Polite, reserved, and on at a crossroads between genders.

Bly'the is a decent damage dealer, and learns their skills through unlocking them in a skill shop.

Lilyth, the mouthy Sword Singer from the City of Tyria. Not at ease and careful on her words at first, the girl has had a troubled background, but has had two devotions in her past life : sword magic, and Bly'the. Loud-mouthed, by times dense, yet loyal and always ready to get dirty for her friends.

In battle, Lilyth can really be anything : one sword will make her a Fire mage, another a powerful Witch, a third one a pummeling monk and a last one a healer better than Jehane ever (you better grab the loot in the final dungeon for it-sword).

Endrus, an elvish Paladin, and leader of Elvenwyyr's most prominent remaining areas. He's been unsealing and sealing the forbidden Wild Mainland and participated in much conflicts, but an event not so long ago shattered his faith and left him powerful. Endrus is cheerful and tries to keep his head up, even when his heart is crushed down. Respectful, but has a bit of a machist and supremacist problem by times...

Endrus is a Holy Wielder and a powerful tankhouse; however his progression requires side-quests to gain all his skills and spells.

Jehane, the local white mage (well rivaled by some of Lilyth's swords!).. A dedicated and promising newbie healer, former interest of Bly'the, who has travelled from realm to realm looking for proper tutorships. Jehane is kind-hearted, but shy, quite cold. She appears brooding and speaks little. What words she manages to utter, however, are usually of great wisdom.

Jehane, being a healer, focuses on buffing, debuffing and - you guessed it - healing. She learns her skills through the use of a skill shop.

Nyda, Endrus' long gone battle companion. He is the leader of the Knights of Elona, a state organization comparable to police, constables or guards in many other countries. Nonetheless, he delegates most of his tasks, seeking to improve his vast Dragon skills. A little bit over-bragging as he gets confident, yet wise and full of the purest loyalty.

In battle, he uses TWO spears to dash out physical damage - but his strength lies in being able to deal all-enemy tremendious skills that, while depleting his MP, hardly leave any lesser monster on screen.

Meredith, a girl from Elona, and high-ranked of the Mountainers. She helped build up the organization long ago, but back then they only protected the roads between Elona and Avillion. Since the tunnels were dug, they could refocus on other tasks, like understanding what causes the Gods to wake up, or resisting against an advancing army... Meredith is someone extremely competent, but who constantly seeks her place. She talks little, does little of her own, is too unsure to hold her own - but she atones by providing the party with the best militia and its finest weapons, and we're not talking about swords and shiny plate armor here.

She learns her skills through sheer levelling; she deals medium damage with her bow, but all her attacks ignore enemy defence, and dash out elemental and status ailments at their targets.

Galena is a witch - a person who uses warlock arcane and herbalism. She's been raised in the Kingdom of Avillion, but travelled a lot. She stands up to her ideals and recently settled in the city of Seloona, as some mystery was brewing here - like magical arcanic snow and a few minor abductions here and there, nothing to worry about, really. But where most witches are greedy, selfish and use their heavily powerful magics to satisfy their lust and false needs, she puts her unholy ways in the service of the people; and she is someone sweet and caring, yet devoted, extremely loyal and brave.

In battle, Galena has access to a variety of spells, like life-drainers and mana-drainers, two single-targets, two multi-targets (one Fire, one Dark), not including the poisonning Virus, the sundering Touch of Fear, and the most powerful spell to exist, the Death Coil...

(This is what happpens when you let your hunny take the RMVX database over.. T.T)

WORLD

The world of Elvenwyyr is rich and detailed. It has seen millenia of history, though most of it was erased a thousand years ago when the Great War changed the face of the world. Ruled by the Jewels who bestow gifts to the Holy-sided and curses to the Unholy-sided (including warlocks), and locally by governments that united against the unknown Wild Mainland and any potential threat to their peace and danger to the unstable Jewels, many races inhabit it. From the wheat plains of Inishmore to the forests of Elona and the shifting sands of Goldencoast to the barren home of the proto-Nekoes, not forgetting the arcanic, crushed Elvenwyyr frozen in a cursed winterland and the Tyrian Capitol blossoming in Holiness atop her hill, it offers a lot of different landscapes - and when each continent is given its own 200x200 map with dozens of locations to visit, all the better!

Main Overworld, this represents the parts featured in Part I and Part II : the Fractured Mainland, broken one thousand years ago at its center. It used to be a single continent, separated by three large arms of ocean that converged in the Eldreth Ocean; but a thousand Ultimas bursting in the former cities of New Mysten and Thais led to its great sundering, a thousand years ago. Five nations occupy its reaches; historically, Elona, Elvenwyyr and Inishmore were the main key holders, along with the central and smaller nations.

This is an older version of the map. The newer version will come with the release of the game.

Elvenwyyr. Where your tales begin. Until two years ago, it was a beautiful greenland. But when Leviathan, bent on destroying the city of Elvenwyyr, cast its Tidal Wave, a powerful Ice spell froze it midways, but sent most of the continent in an everwinter state. Save for a few peaks above the arcane clouds, all is white, cold and snow, and so in a circle spanning from the Temple of Shiva in its heart - which explains why the eastern reaches of the mainland are usually warm, though their climate is awfully destroyed.

Elvenwyyr was built by Sun Priests and the then-Dreamer and God of Magic, and ruled over half the continent; but 1000 years ago, its greed for forbidden power and its chase to forbid Elona to outdo them led to their undoing.

Nowadays, Frostenfall and Elvenwyyr have parted from each other, the latter seeking to rebuild, the former bent on dominating its neighboors for safety and more resources...

Elona and Avillion. These two kingdoms have a long, very long history. 1000 years ago, Elona (or the Amaranth Country) was the smallest state, spanning barely the forests that exist nowadays. Its alliances with the various islands and the Sun Priests, however, ensured its survival in between a war-hungry Elvenwyyr and what would later become Inishmore. When the Queen of Elona, Maranda, discovered an artefact of great power in the Wild Mainland, she triggered a cataclysmic war that sundered the central ocean islands and ripped the continent apart. Elona has since then rebirthed, until five years ago, when Necron, God of Death, struck and destroyed its second hugest city for unknown reasons. Since then, Elona has isolated herself and awaits patiently.

Avillion (or Southern Elona) is populated by Dwarves. Story has it Dwarves are one of the oldest races, predating the Elves. 3'000 years ago, they fought off a bloody war from their homes in the Central islands (known as the Millenium War) against a powerful wizard; when the prophecy of its return came true 1'000 years later, they decided to go in hiding, and by the Great War were thought extinct. In fact, they built a fortress underneath Elona, and poured out of it eager to explore the new world some six hundred years ago. At such they were given the lands of Avillion, and their very own Jewel.

I'd like to thank my girlfriend for all the work she has put in putting my storyline in flesh, and for playing through it with its tons of bugs! xD I'd love to thank everyone who gave me inspiration to complete this project. It's really a few hours away from completion. And I thank YOU for reading through this! ^^

This has enough potential to be a great, memorable game like Myth Xaran and Q:TBV and Aveyond. Keep it coming.

I'll likely be releasing the open beta mid-June. I'm having unforeseen technicial difficulties, so it's pretty hard for me to upload any files now. :/

It means I get more time to improve some stuff in my game, though! ^_^ Maybe add an extra "find that internets" quest?

a find-the-internet quest would be highly amusing, actually XD i was going to do a quest like that. *ahem* off-topic, moving on.

i personally used googledocs to host my files. the other one i tried was mediafire. don't remember exactly why i stopped using mediafire tho...

Downloaded it and playing.

But umm how do you open the diary and how do you save? I've been pushing every button so far

Edit: I've tried 'escape' already, but it's not working.

Edit2: So here are already a few things I've noticed.(ButI still haven't been able to access the menu... )
About the intro:
* I had trouble reading that fast, since English is not my first language. Often I could not finish reading it.
* Also one of the characters is named 'Pristess', shouldn't that be priestess? (That reminds in Elvenwyyr near the slums there is a woman named 'pristess' as well.)
* During the dialogue Bly'the is seen as 'High Wizard' however when the battle starts with Leviathan he is seen as 'Mage'.
* In the conversation between the two "Gods"(I'm talking about the male and female voices) it read 'disseapear', while it should be disappear. (One of the mineworkers outside also said 'disseapear'.)
In Elvenwyyr:
* There is a lady named 'Lady Mary Denly'. When she speaks there are no "", and after Endrus's speech her sprite is changed!
* In the palace, in the church room, a nun named 'Garnet' tells you about the Gods. She mentions that Leviathan and Exdeath have already woken. Now when you talk to 'Cecil' (he's in the same room), he says Leviathan and Expirius have woken.
* This may be not a fault, but it confused me The shopkeeper in front of the Pub/Inn says something like 'Isn't Bly'the with you?' while I was playing with Bly'the.

So far I loved the game. The music is nice (and I normally hate most of a game's music), I like the characters (specially Endrus ^^) and the maps are amazing.

introduction
- In intro name of tehe priestess is pristress
- Sometimes you don’t have the time to read the whole dialogue (and I’m a fast reader)
- For some reason, the game freezes a lot, needing sometime to continue again
- When everyone embarks to the airship, the leave the map on the north, you then meet a woman, whom you tell to go to the airship as well. However, the high wizard leaves the map on the north, while the woman leaves the map on the south (while the ship is in the north probably)
- When the male and female voice talk after leviathan attacks, you write “perhaps we disseapear”, typo
- After the 2 years later comment, in dialogue someone says “have some self-respect for yourself” that’s basically a tautology.

- When you check the bookcase in the house you awake, in the first book it says “Crystal, pool of massive power” this has to be pools.

Chapter 1
still have to start

------------------------------------
I am posting early, because the game freezes everytime it has to load something (new map, shop interface, chat.

any idea why that is? My laptop isn't the best of the best, but it really should be able to run a RP game like this XD

EDIT: ok, most of the things are mentioned by slimmeiske already, but I'm not deleting it to make it seem like I did something useful XD I can acces the menu just fine and save btw

ABOUT THE SAVE PROBLEM

I sometimes have it. Try to close and restart the game? I found out starting/closing RMVX helped. I don't know what caused the problem, but it's definitely one of the added scripts. I'll need to dig deeper into it... Try to reinstall the game and tell me if it works fine too please ^_^ I'll be testing every script, but it's hard because basically it appears at random, so deleting a script and waiting to see isn't always the best thing (unless I had hours and hours).

ABOUT THE LAG PROBLEM

It works fine on my average computer. No freezes, though I did notice a latency on my crap laptop. I think Elvenwyyr and some world maps are the hardest hit areas, as well as the Diamond Mine. Maybe I'll need to split the latter area.

--------------------------
BUGS (And typos, I know there are many, I usually can't double check my stuff, not enough time..)

1) You open the diary as an item in the menu. See the Save bug for help. ^_^ I'll fix it asap, however!

2) I will likely lighten the wordings in the intro. Turns out too much info kills some of the plot, plus some people don't read this fast. ^^

3) Glitch - Bly'the is a "High Wizard" but the special class he's given in the first battle is "Mage". Fixing.

4) Glitch - Lady Mary Denly. You just touched my cheat character! I apparently didn't reset her properly, I was using her in the alpha stages to test various aspects of battling.

5) "Glitch" - The woman heads back to the city, but not on the emergency airship (she's no official personal) while Bly'the actually heads to the north where s/he is to fight Leviathan, passing the airship on the way. I thought I made this clear, but I can further clarify.

6) Glitch - The Church Room apparently is outdated. Expirius was the placeholder name for Necron, who woke in Elona. Exdeath was a fail reference to Final Fantasy V, though Exdeath is the signature spell of the Dreamer, and involves both holy and unholy energies. Fixing.

7) Glitch - The pub holder in Elvenwyyr is bugged. In fact, I've inversed the checks for Bly'the, so he'll go on "Isn't Bly'the with you" ESPECIALLY when Bly'the is in the party. I know, it's a hint Bly'the won't stay forever, but s/he will till Part 3. I'll be fixing it.

Diamondmist : Did you install the RMVX RTPs before? What version of the game did you take? Either way, reinstall the RTPs directly from Enterbrain's website, it usually means your RTP folder is messed. However, if you downloaded the game WITH the RTPs, it might be a bug on my end.
Typos....erm.... I'll be drawing a list of them and fixing them all.

I'll be releasing version 0.4 whenever you guys have reached Mountainers' Lodge. Until then, bug fixing

EDIT : It's fun you like Endrus so early on. At very first he was just a side kick, and most of his character development doesn't happen until quite later. Oh well ^_^ you'll be happy to know Endrus get his own chapter (the second third of Part II, about three/four hours)

Thanks Aveyond06. I reinstalled it and now it works most of the times.

In Kowloon:
* The 'Pristess' typo again ^^
In Woodward:
* The houses don't open nor is there a message that the door is locked.
* Somewhere close to the Inn, there is a woman (she is a bit hidden by the trees) who asks if I want to rest in French.
In Neko village:
* I was wondering if it's normal that I can't reach the two people and the house in the NW. The house in the NE (I'm not talking about Herman's) can't be reached either.
* Wouldn't it be more logical that when Endrus plays the piano at Julius's place that Endrus' sprite is shown?
* When Jehane's bio starts, it reads: Bly'the is a female human...
In Elvenwyyr:
* 'Pristess' typo in the Hospital.
* Can't go near the lady next to the shop near the station.
On the way to Frostenfall:
* The sign at the North Pass (the map before the Midway Inn) reads 'Elfenwyr'.
* LOL @ cheat character for Lilith(She's standing in front of the Midway Inn). Before I knew it Lilith was lvl 99 xD
* In the Inn, there's a 'neko' in a room without catears.
In Frostenfall:
* I had lots of trouble here. When I first played the Arena battle I dfeated the first two opponents, the other however didn't appear and I was announced winner. I was all of a sudden back in the palace, without anyone saying anything. So I thought I should go back to the throne room and well the whole cutscene played again. Leaving me to battle Arena again, this time as well only the first two opponents. I won, was back in the palace again without any dialogue. So I considered going into the throne room again. Where the cutscene played again, which left me to battle again and thank god this time the four opponents showed up!
* While in jail, after I had freed the others I went accidently back into the torture room (where they had been holding Lilith) and the cutscene played again but this time with no sprites.
* On the airship, with Morten's dialogue, Bly'the says 'amonsgt' instead of 'amongst'.

Episode 2:
* The same 'Pristess' typo in the Shrine of Crystals
* In Wiltshire (the orphanage) the matron talks about Exdeath.

----------
Question: I heard you used LOTR and Les Misérables music, so I was wondering if the music in the Fisherman's Town was also from something?
Also I just realized but during the Leviathan battle, Bly'the's faceset changes to darksoul!Bly'the. Is that on purpose?

I am in the middle of my finals so I didn't really advance in testing. I could go trough it quikly, but i rather take it slow and detailed, so you can expect me to take a while to catch up on the others lol XD

The lagging is still happenning and dreadfully annoying (10 seconds to enter an inn is a bit much XD), I will try to find the source of it, but probably won't find it XD

The lagging is really odd, I don't have any problems on my PC. I'll certainly go and look for myself in the scripts, maybe some are redundant or something.

Kowloon / Woodward :: I'll be adding a locked up message on these houses that are indeed locked.
The french speaking woman (also a testing NPC) will be fixed.

Siloa :: It's normal that you can't reach them! Just there for decorum.

"Bly'the is a female human" 0.0 removed side quest, I'll be cleaning it up

I'll be fixing the piano, though I was sure I had tested it ^_^

North Inn :: Enjoy the cheat character XD to be removed however.

Elfenwyr is an old lore spelling of Elvenwyyr.

Fixing the pretender neko

Frostenfall :: Maybe you hit too hard on Arena people. I'll be giving the four bosses more HP, and make them vanish at 30% HP instead of 10%. If one goes to 0%, the whole event listing is overridden and bugs.

I'll be locking up the torture room. Fact is, you shouldn't need to go back down there.

Wiltshire :: Changing Exdeath to Necron.

------------------------------------------

The music from Fisherman's Town comes from Fable I!! It's the theme of Oakshire if I remember correctly.

It's normal that Bly'the's faceset changes.

I'd love your feedback on your levels and what you think of the whole levelling/building up process, too! Perhaps suggestions about spicing up boss battles too. :3 Thanks ^_^
