I'm hoping someone here will know what's going on here. I bought Aveyond 2 back in July 2010 and did play it for awhile back then with no problems. Within the past week I've tried to play it again with many issues.

Whenever I try to open the game from my desktop icon, a pop up box comes up that says:

C:\Program Files\Aveyond 2\Aveyond2.exe
Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

My operating system is Windows Vista, my personal profile/account on the computer is the only one that exists and also is the account administrator, and I have played this game on my computer before. So far, I've tried the following:

*Uninstalling/reinstalling Aveyond 2
*Updating Direct X
*Updating Windows with Windows Update
*Downloading the codecs it specifies in the Help? section of this website
*Attempting to run the game as the "administrator"

I've scanned the help sections and FAQs of this site and have tried everything I've read thus far that pertains to me. It is still giving me the same result. Has anyone else had this problem or do you know how to solve it?

Is your anti-virus program blocking it? There are sometimes false positives when an antivirus program is updated.

Check to make sure there actually IS an aveyond2.exe file at that address. If not, it's likely your antivirus program has removed it. You can tell your av program to allow the file, then reinstall.

It's crazy because the file wasn't there before I reinstalled the game, because I remember checking. After I downloaded the reinstallation files from the site again, it mentioned that Aveyond 2 hadn't yet been uninstalled. So the program thought it was there, but I couldn't find it.

I currently have AVG free edition virus scanner, and I checked its back logs. Here's what it lists:

Severity: Infection
Virus Name: Trojan horse Generic4_c.ITG
Path to File: C:\Program Files\Aveyond 2\Aveyond2.exe

Here's my next question: Why would my anti-virus claim this is a Trojan? I have the option to "restore" on AVG, but I'm afraid that when it automatically scans again it'll remove it once more. I'm currently trying to find a way to tell the program simply not to remove it at all...considering it's still safe!

For some reason, games made with rpgmaker programs often give false positives when an anti-virus program is updated. Our games definitely don't have viruses in them, though, if downloaded from here. When people receive a false positive, they can contact their antivirus maker and ask them to correct it. This is often done almost immediately.

Follow the instructions in the topic to which UntoldReveries linked, and that should get you up and running again.

After even more researching, I've found what to do to keep Aveyond 2 on the safe list. For any future AVG Free problems, I'm typing this for reference:

*Uninstall Aveyond game, and download the pack of files from this website again, but do NOT yet install.
*Open AVG Free's interface
*Choose Tools from the top bar, click to "Advanced Settings..."
*Scroll down list and choose "PUP Exceptions"
*In the bottom right hand corner, click "Add Exception"
*Begin installation of Aveyond game. AVG Free will pop up warnings. Do not tell it to do anything (move to virus vault, heal, etc.). Simply CLOSE these boxes.
*Back in AVG Anti-Virus (PUP Exception screen), type C:\Program Files\Game File\GameFile.exe depending on which game, and click "OK"
*Click "Apply" back on the PUP Exceptions screen

The game should be playable from here. AVG Free will still keep the game file in its threats list until you "Clear List" (NOT Move to Virus Vault), but it will not delete it.

Phew. Now hopefully I can play my game AND keep my anti-virus program.
