About the maps question, I already answered here. About the monastery: I only played the trial version, but skimming through some posts on the official forum, you need to find a statue. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

There's an strategy guide for Vagrant heart 1 & the 2nd hasn't been released yet, As far as I know.
I think, you had asked this before, In the official topic; and this question was answered there.

I didn't find the Guide that helpful. To be honest I am very disappointed in this game. It's tedious to play, not fun for me. I won't be buying the second one.
I'm used to the best, and Amanda has us spoiled with her Aveyond series, and the excellent walthroughs, Maps, and story lines. With Aveyond games you get decent gold and points for each battle. You find chests, and Items that help you on your way. (This is without the Goodie caves and Patches. Which I have had a lot of fun with in all her games.) So it is Amanda' fault that I am not happy with lesser games.

I really didn't had any problem with gold in Vagrant Hearts, besides you can sell your old equipment.
