Methinks Aveyond's continuity relies on the accessibility of Aveyond (derp) and the Oracle. I'm still all for the new Aveyond featuring the dark side. There IS a semi-functional, though twisted, Aveyond in Demon Realm.

So happens? lol Aveyond didn't appear in Ahriman's Prophecy but we've always had a Pendragon PC and Thais as the centrepoint of geography. I rest my case... unless there's gonna be a catastrophic genocide of the Pendragon family sometime in the future.

I object. IMO the existence of Thais and the Pendragon line has nothing to do with keeping the story within the same world/universe. I think it's in fact the reverse. By showing that Thais an the Pendragons are still around, it means that the game is still in the same universe. They're landmarks of continuity, not something vital that absolutely has to be preserved. Maybe Amanda just likes the Pendragons a lot, who knows?

Plus, AP doesn't have "Aveyond" in the title

You can't deny that the solid line of Pendragon royals have always kept Aia relatively secure and balanced, because it's the one kingdom who's survived more than three hundred years of rise and fall, and remains the only country to earn a place in the world map of the games consistently. I agree that they're "not vital to preserve", but you can't deny that they have been preserved for the last four episodes of the arc/universe (three if you insist on discounting AP, so Thais and the Pendragons are at least neck to neck with the appearance of Aveyond and the Oracle). Things like that don't "just so happens", and even if the Pendragons are sidelined as NPCs/minor PCs, their presence are still felt tangibly.

Erm, so I guess what I'm trying to say is, Thais and the Pendragon line has become almost as important, if not equally as important as, the Oracle and Aveyond. I like to think of it as the Pendragons being the Oracle's chosen champions, since she never bestirs herself that much and yet the Pendragons are always involved in the battles of the prophecies.

I don't care what the Pendragons' roles are. I'm just saying that "to retain the Pendragons and Thais" is a bad reasoning/line of logic for the next Aveyond to be set in the same "world" because Amanda doesn't have to retain them. I said what I said because Magus' post seem to imply that the next Aveyond HAVE to be set in the same universe for the sake of having Thais and the Pendragons there, and I disagree. Heck if I know what Amanda thinks their roles are in the Aveyond universe. It's just that I personally think Thais is there to tell you "yes, this is still Aia" because, as you said, it's a very important place and a wonderful landmark. As opposed to "we're still in Aia because we can't NOT have Thais!"

'sides, Amanda most likely continues to set the games in the same world cause there's no other worlds being introduced yet. Also, throwing players to an absolutely foreign new place is a big no. People like familiarity and players won't be happy about not seeing the places from the previous games. That's what my argument is all about : The Pendragons had nothing to do with Amanda's decision to continue to set Aveyond in the same "world".

I personally would like to go explore new regions and the maps to not change drastically after only 100 years have passed, but usually not many share my thoughts about the AV games I'm all for exploring Demon Realm. If there's a Shadow Aveyond, they can have a Shadow Thais if they really MUST have Thais in the game somewhere. Or, if it's not a good idea, release the "dark side story" as a short side story kind of thing Short gameplay and a not so important quest. As in not a save-the-world scale, but maybe a small local rebellion. It's demon realm. There should be groups of rowdy demons who think they should be king somewhere in the realm.

I agree with you daeva. Besides.. I'm not sure I want a good Gyendal. I kinda liked him bad.

@d_a: I like the idea of going back to the Demon Realm for a side quest. I wouldn't want to play an entire game there, because I find it claustrophobic and kind of frustrating (then again, I think a lot of that comes from how limited the gameplay really is there, especially since the characters are remarkably weak). I think a quest on the scale of the Twelve Dancing Princesses quest in AP would be awesome. It would also be cool to not have any main storyline there, because I love areas in games where you simply don't have to be there, but it's still there and fun to explore.

Include Rhen perhaps? She is a Pendragon It would be cool (at least to me) to see the characters from previous Aveyond games shown (or in Mel's case, mentioned, because it's too soon to bring her back)

Rhen and the Av1 characters are long-since dead. I don't see any reason why Amanda would bring them back, unless their ghosts had some quest in the Underworld, which isn't likely.

@d_a - I'm not saying Thais HAS to be in EVERY game. It and the Pendragon line have just always been as important as Aveyond (more so in Av2), and I don't see any reason to change that.

@Emma: Eh? I personally don't mind Gyendal turning good. Amanda sure thinks it's funny. Or I think that's what she said somewhere in FB. Well, okay, maybe not a complete 180-degree turn to a Stella-level good. Like, just semi-good is perfect. As in, he's still twisted but not outright evil. Not that I think he was evil to begin with. Just... insane and a bit of a megalomaniac.

@Magus: Well, your wording is misleading. You said the game will probably be set in the same world, and I quote, "to retain the Pendragon family and Thais". That's why my initial question was "Why does it have to RETAIN the Pendragons or Thais?" Retain means "preserving" after all. It implies that you think the game will be set in the same world because the Pendragons and Thais needs to be there.

Miscommunications happen all the time and I am nitpicky, moving on.

@ipink: Eh, being a daeva fangirl, I've always been wanting to see the entirety of Demon Realm, so I'm all for returning there for an entire game. I mean, Sheian Lyr and the Demon Plains is only a miniscule area of the entire realm. There's plenty more of Shadow Areas in there that we do not see. Heck, Amanda mentioned that there a Shadow-Mel lurking in Demon Realm somewhere off-screen. Still, material from personal correspondence does not mean anything yet until it actually appears in the game.

Anyways, funny you should say it's claustrophobic-inducing. Demon Plains is one of the more tedious places to go through because it's so BLANK and has many stretches of empty space. Maybe the dark and gloomy atmosphere just doesn't cut it for you?

Ok I'm officially happy right now. I don't care where it will be set as long as I know there Will be another Aveyond.

Aw ya! Something to look forward to! Now I really want to see what happens! Will Mel be a NPC like Rhen's dad was in AV1? Will we see Uma and Nox do something like zap each other from the throne top. I like Stella because she has the kindness of me. I am a blend of Stella, Uma, Rainbow Dash (why did I put that? Oh right I like pranks and adventure, everthing RD likes now), and Nox. Wow call me the ultimate blend of the AV series!
