That... is a badly-worded quiz. 6 pancakes = 6 individual pancakes. Then suddenly you mentioned piles. A pile of pancakes = a stack that contains more than one pancake, and there's no telling how many pancakes were there in that pile.

So, if I take that question literally, my answer would be: more than 1, but nobody knows the exact number.

But, if I assume you meant "6 piles of pancakes" when you first said "6 pancakes", then it's 5.

If, by "the 4th piece", you mean one man ate a quarter of the stack, then ALL pancakes now have a quarter cut out of them, so there are no WHOLE pancakes left.

I've no idea if that's the answer. This one is particularly difficult, and not just the puzzle - the terms you use make it difficult too (the grammar is incorrect and confusing - 3 of them pour a syrup ... the 4th men ate the 4th piece on the pile)
