Just stating it was a game is that it is seeming a little argumentative to me.
But the moving lands falls under the its a game as well we don't need to know the ifs thens hows and whys about it just go with it but to end my curiosity about ( I have quized Brycej on the changing land mass) i give myself the conclusion of the Godess is playing Mr. Potato head with the world. On regards to Aveyond changing I just see it as the makers (Amanda) didn't sit and think about Aveyond has shrunk and how that will affect the next AV (game). The world of Aveyond is just as imperfect as ours.

The world of Aveyond is just as imperfect as ours. *Beep* Nonsense logic detected. You can't compare Aveyond to our real world! Our world works by a certain system that can be studied, analyzed, and understood to a degree. While miscalculations may occur, experts can make close predictions to what will happen to the Earth. Aveyond works by the rule of "it's magic, deal with it". Sometimes that just isn't good enough explanation for more serious gamers. And for a game to sell well? It has to be able to be taken seriously. Moving on. Methinks this is a case of being too lazy to be lazy. There are times that while we know there's an alternate, easier method, we stick to a more tedious method because we're used to it? Yeah. Making a new map shape from scratch is more trouble than just importing a map from an older game and tweaking the little details, but whatever rocks your boat... I daresay Amanda actually didn't remember a lot of stuff from older games, so a lot of minor issues just don't ever get mentioned ever. Except the shrinking Aveyond kerfuffle. That should not be considered a "minor issue" *le sigh* Maybe Uma and Nox and co should go to Demon realm in AV4. I mean, they know where Demon Realm is, so doesn't that mean they've been there before? Or at least have known of the precise directions on how to go there. Unless they're super-ninja-sneaky about hunting for info (making Demon Portals seems like it's a big no no), I don't think the trip they made in AV3 is their first trip. Unless sometime between AV3 and the time period the twins came from, the Oracle/goddess declared peace between Demon Realm and human world and you are free to wander to Demon Realm wherever you want. Or they want back in time first, THEN look for info on how to go to Demon Realm. That is not as much fun. Come on! Wonder how "interdimensional travel" policies work in Demon Realm. They don't seem to really care who comes in or out, and there's not even a way out to begin with other than the Shadow Aveyond portal... which could only be activated by the Staff of Destiny? Or the Shadow Oracle is just screwing Mel over and trolling her. Logic, what's that? I had mine do it like international travel works in the real world. Demon police check for "passports" and illegal travelers get sent home. 'Cept that security's a bit of a mess, so it's hit and miss kinda thing. *fantasizes* Don't mind me, I'm just a such a huge Dark Side enthusiast when it comes to Aveyond.

Re magic: It seems that a lot of fictions that involve magic/fantasy tend to handwave a lot of issues with "A Wizard did it" type of answer, and most of the logical fallacies are explained by magic. Well, I don't have issues with this if the game is gameplay heavy- but if in the more story-oriented works like Aveyond series? Not so much...

Such games needs to be supported by a strong defined setting, otherwise it's just lame. Why do people like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts? Partly because of the characters, and partly because of the lore and how the world works. They're complex and interesting. There's still bound to be plotholes, because people aren't perfect, but there's a difference between a flawed setting and a setting that's so vague that everything is subject to a Deus Ex Machina.

Lets see, it seems there are a few changes in the new game that some see as strange.
I think that if you look around the real world you can see cities disappear simply in floods or other natural disasters. Shore lines erode and the shape of the Coasts change as a result. New cities rise up everywhere. It's the ebb and flow of time. And of men's desire to roam. However, in fantasy it can be a dimentional thing as well. Where we have Space Stations the fantasy has floating Sky cities. I for one will simply relax and enjoy the game. See where it takes us. It's been fun so far! ![]()

@UnicornLady: Some of us just care THAT much about things making sense. Just because it's fantasy doesn't mean you're allowed to make up random stuff for no reason. Yes, shore lines erode and Coasts change, BUT that did NOT drastically change the shape of islands within mere decades!!!!!!
Aveyond is a story-oriented game. The setting is as much part of the story as the characters. Okay, AV4 is going to be not too long after AV3. Mel got married a year after and so AV4 should be about 10-15 years post-AV3. There's no excuse that the continents can change so drastically this time.

That's assuming Mel had kids right after she got married. She could have waited to have children.

Well, fine, at the very most 25 years post AV3. I mean, we got no news about how young Uma and Nox are and for all I know, they headed out by age of 10 *shrug* Also, if Mel waited to have kids... Unless she waited 10 years before she even had any kids, there shouldn't be that much year difference. Seriously, the people in Aia are that chaste or generally infertile because if they work like America today does, by 10 years they'd already have at least 5 kids running around. Still. Islands shouldn't have that big a change either way.
Oooh, speculations on where things are gonna kick start from! Mel is with Lars, so the assumption is they're in Veldarah. Maybe they moved, maybe they didn't. Mel is still under contract to serve the empress, after all, unless Lars is kind enough to pay off the bills and got Mel out of the contract. I mean, the "grant" allows Mel to study and board for free, but she must serve the Empress afterwards. If the tuition and boarding fee is paid, then she doesn't need to serve the Empress anymore! Plus, whatever Edward promised had to be cancelled because he ended up not needing any help from Veldarah's court. TL;DR, Mel is most likely still stuck serving the Empress. Does this mean we're going to start our game in Arishta? *excited* Or Uma and Nox are already at the age where they're allowed to travel on their own and the hero encounters them in some far off land?

Yep - there's no guarantee we're going to see ANY of the old places in AV4.
Please don't start battering the game for all the things it's done wrong before it's even created and you get to see it. UnicornLady gave perfectly valid explanations for the changes, as several others have done, yet you refuse to accept any of them because they don't match your opinion of "what's right". We don't all share the same opinion, and many of us are happy to enjoy each game as its own story, and why things are or aren't a certain way are little more than a passing thought that needs no detailed, realistic explanation. I accept that you want more of an explanation than many of us, but a topic where most people want to know about the general story should not be flooded with demands and rants about inconsistencies in previous games. It's not fun to take part in a topic where I know that whatever I say is going to be refuted and we'll just keep going in circles. ![]() 5 kids in 10 years? Really? Is that the national average over there? Ours is 2-3 per family. Even if it is, Aveyond is not America, and there's no reason to make any of it like the real world.

Completely forgot about that. Gek. Wonder how Uma and Nox ended up wherever they are *still excited*
![]() Hey, I'm just making a remark about low birth rate in Aia. I meant 3, by the way, not 5. That was a typo. In the ye olde medieval times in 10 year at the very least there's 3 kids in a family. As far as stories go anyway. Aveyondland ain't Earth, I know. Just saying. Fine, fine. No more rants on past mistakes. I usually bring them up to point out what I didn't like in the past and what I hope to see in the next game, though I get carried away a little too easily. I probably need sleep.

Nah. The average couple in America has 2-3 kids as well.

Re sig: You're both wrong. It's spelled "live WITH it".
And yeah, talk about possibilities of Aveyond movies have been around for a while. The verdict last time was that it's not a good idea, and maybe even not possible.

I started writing an AV3 script one year (for ScriptFrenzy, where you try writing a 100-page script in a month) but it was never finished and most of it probably wasn't that good anyway.
I think maybe an animated TV show could be good, it could expand on some of the game's elements.

@Esme: And also you, arguably, has a bias for Ed/Mel, which isn't canon and would make the adaptation go towards a rather weird direction
![]() I'm gonna say it's not a good idea anyway because the fun thing about Aveyond is how each fan have their own way of seeing the AV-world. Newcomers might be find and dandy with it, but those who already had preference for non-canon stuff... Yeah. Unless the way whoever wrote the script can expand and present canon in a good way that even those who dislike it can accept it. But this has nothing to do with AV4. Would be cool if we get a mini animated video clip as promo material/intro for AV4, but... WHO IS GONNA DO THAT? DERP.

Well, for that to happen I think we have to know the characters and the plot. And since we know nothing except that it will be about Uma Nox & Mistery Boy I don't think it's possible.
As for the movie... I don't know. It would make a good movie (or a series -for that matter) but I think it would be rather expensive to make. I mean you need actors to play/dub the characters/voices and a lot of things to deal with.

Um, duh? But Amanda and team WOULD know the story. I was talking about how it'd be cool if the Amaranth team made a short animation/videoclip trailer for AV4. The only problem is, they'd have to hire someone just for this one clip and that may be pricey and not worth it.
