Hey hey! Another thing: Tilesets and graphics.
I don't know what to expect if we really are gonna get Unity for the engine for AV4, but if we stick with RMXP, can we have an AV1 style tileset? What makes the AV1 feel so awesomely special is its REALISM painted tileset. The grass look soft and fuzzy. The rocks and the dirt ground looks grainy, and it's not the pixellated-grainy that we see in the desert sand tiles from the current Tyobi background the site is sporting. It's painted texture. Even the plain walls are textured that it looks like plastered wall. Not just pixel-grainy, but real texture like 3D. Ok, sure, fine, a lot of the stuff are still RTP, but all those custom-made stuff are AWESOME. Some parts do get a little exaggeratedly-rendered too sometimes. Like, a little too much texture, making it looks like a bad 3D graphic, but hardly anyone notices it. Wonder why Amanda stopped using those realism tilesets. She very nearly did use them for AV3, but cancelled them and released the ones that were already made as free resource in other forums. There was some rock cliffs, a tree, a log cabin, and a gothic-style house that would've looked bloody perfect for the witch village or Ghed'ahre. Were they too time-consuming to make? Too much a hassle to use? Not popular with players?

How could I never know that AV1 tileset is painted. I like your idea daeva_agas, to use the AV1 tilesets or maybe make some new tilesets.

No. Amanda is busy with Pixel Pygmies at the moment, so you shouldn't expect much on the Aveyond front until that's nearing completion.

I have just a quick, slightly off-topic question. If Amanda were to use Unity to produce AV4, would the game be similar to the other Aveyond games, or would it be 3D (or something along those lines)?

It would not be 3D.

I agree with d_a. The Av1 tilesets were gorgeous.
It's not saying that the ones in Av2 and Av3 weren't (in fact I liked the Av2 ones as well for they conveyed a fairytalish atmosphere which suited the game, but the Av3 ones seemed a little generic - not that they aren't good, just that they don't stand out).

@Kirroha: AV2? Really? I thought it's also generic. Well, the graininess is actually a little bit reminiscence of RM2k stuff, but I don't get how the style is Fairytale-ish. The designs are made to be very fluffy and whimsical, but not the pixel style

I meant more of the art style. As you said, it's very fluffy and though I don't usually like staring at bright colours, it does have a very pastel feel.

I'm going to try and keep the next cast very... un-bland.
No previous characters will return, except for Uma and Nox. The story will start in an orphanage. There will be a "defective" witch in the cast.

YAY, a playable witch!
Though I hope we'll at least see Te'ijal and Galahad, even if they're not playable.

Haha - YES! A witch PC will be awesome! And a defective one will be a lot of fun!

I read that as detective at first, which I thought was a little interesting. Then I read it again and saw that it said defective, which is still interesting, so I'm looking forward to seeing this character.

I don't think the cast in any of the games has ever been "bland". Maybe one or two characters from each game, but never the cast as a whole. I'm looking forward to the new group, though!
![]() I really like the idea of having a witch as a playable character. ![]() I'm actually a little disappointed to hear Uma and Nox will be the only recurring characters, though. I hope that only means playable! It'd be awesome for the old cast to have cameos, even if it's only a few lines a piece. (actually, that'd probably be ideal IMO.) Whatever happens, though, I'm looking forward to the new game and am sure it will be great!

I second that. The only time I thought the cast "bland," was in AV2, and even that had better character development than your average RPG. AV1 and AV3 had awesome casts.
And yeah, I want to at least see old characters (specially T and G, but I already said that).

One more note! If I do use Unity, the graphics will be closest to Aveyond 3. I still haven't decided though. Mapping in RPG Maker is a lot more fun.

@Amanda: Good luck with whatever program you use. Never tried Unity yet, but maybe I can try playing with it sometimes...
Re Witch: Defective witch? Ooo. Interesting! I wonder if this means "I cannot do magic, BAW!" or "I am a witch who loves rainbows and sunshine and sparkles!"? I'd totally love it to be the latter. And if it's the former, I sure hope nothing like Mel's case happens >___<

Maybe it's a witch more like GoN's Harriet?
