i doesnt tile properly. the middle square has to tile perfectly, and it doesnt. do you need a tutorial?

you have a tutorial for making autotiles? I'd love to see that! I've done a couple myself, just ripping, but when they don't work it's really hard figuring it out!

i dont personally. but i know where some are.
edit: ahhh... i just looked for it, and i didnt find it. i swear i'll find it sometime though >_> here maybe this can help: OR onefeather, i can do the autotile for you. hypothetically i can do it... however, your first autotile will NEVER work. because its impossable for it to tile properly. in fact, i'll probably end up doing it just for the practice... EDIT: here ya go, works perfectly. tiles, corners and everything... ![]()

There is a little trick to making "Tile-able" images. The procedure depends on the image editor you have. But the concept is the same regardless.
What you do is take the image & cut it in half both ways, dividing it into 4 quarters. Then, swap the corners. (Upper Left <-> Lower Right, and Upper Right <-> Lower Left) Now, without changing the edges, edit the center of the tile to make it contiguous. It will be obvious where the problems are. You can leave it in this state, because you know the edges are good. Or, you can swap corners again to return it to it's original state. The higher end editors have an "Image Offset" function or filter that makes the corner swapping easy. A quick way to test it, is to create a little html file in the same folder where you save your image Open the html in your browser, then hit "Refresh" every time you save your image. Be Well

I'm not seeing what is so wrong with OneFeather's tiles, since I'm not a mapper.
What exactly is the issue?

by mapper do you mean you dont use RMXP at all? O_o
the first AT will never work because: A: a motion blur is used. (blurs ARE THE WORST and shouldnt ever be used in mapping. it makes things uneven and makes them "bleed" into one another) B: it contains horizontal lines. the simple answer is that this wont ever work in any way, unless youre an uber expert. C: the corners dont match. TALKING ABOUT THE SECOND AUTOTILE A: the lighter edges around the edge of the water is incapable of working, because you cant use it on corners, so every time you make a "L" shape or the like with that autotile, its going to be off. B: the middle tile in the autotile (the purple tile, in the template i posted) isnt a tileable tile, which means everytime you try to make anything bigger than the pre-set tile, it wont work. C: the shadow is there on the above water parts, and NOT there on underwater parts... hope that helps. i hope i explained everything so you can get a feel of why i wont work. :\

Yeah, I have done nothing with any RPG Maker
![]() So, the water can be broken into pieces for autotiling (red and purple pieces in your diagram). I was thinking that the water area was one solid piece.

So do you first make the water tileset and test to make sure it tiles first before you break it in pieces??
How do you make it animated and still keep it tiling correctly without breaks?

@ Pandaba: im not sure what you mean, we're talking about animate AT's obviously... in this case i took two AT's and combined them... making youre own animated AT's from scratch is very, very complicated.
@ arrgie,: yeah, its looks ok in picture form, but when you use it in the game maker, it fragments it in a bunch of different ways, and unless you do the picture right, it doesnt work. in this case, he did the picture wrong, so it doenst work.

basically what Nick is saying, when ya see those tiles I made in motion, they are awful.
the water jumps around, is uneven, and flickers back and forth...ya have ta see it animated to notice how bad it is... making good ones takes more experience and practice than I have, that's my first attempt. gonna try Nick's he made, now, thanks!!
