There are a lot of things that people think they are correct. I just finished reading the most interesting book "The book of ignorance". It tells the true story of the facts.
For example: Panthers don't exist. The word Panther is a Latin name for all the felines that can roar: Lion (Panthera leo) Tiger (panthera Tigris) Leopard (Panthera pardus) and Jaguar (Panthera Onca) The animals that the people call panthers are actually black leopards and black jaguars. How were the rulers condemning the gladiators to death? Not by letting their thumbs down. To condemn a gladiator, the ruler lifted his thumb, act which was associated with a sword which just left its rest. And to let the gladiator live, the ruler slipped his thumb into his fist, a sword which was introduced it its rest. Which is the highest mountain? Definitely not Everest. The highest mountain is Mauna Kea (if I remember the name right) which is located somewhere around Hawaii. Despite that from the level of the sea, the mountain measures only 4000 meters, from the base it measures over 10000, which is obviously more that Everest's 8000 or so. That are only some facts from the book. I'll write more when I get it back -.- So what do you think? Surprised?

Cool wolfie. I did know that about panthers. And the black leopard does have spots when in the sunlight. They are just very dark.
Please bring more.

Great facts. Sounds like an interesting book. I had no idea about panthers either, that's weird. I have a book called Uncle John's Legendary Bathroom reader
It has random facts and trivia stuff like that. There's some pretty interesting stuff in it.

I think I know a few too. Random stuff I found in the questions and answer book. Not sure that people knew them already but I'm still going to post them here.
Something about snake charmers. They actually didn't charm the snake at all with that flute. the snake itself is deaf so how can it listen to the flute? The snake charmer just swing his flute left and right to mesmerize the snake and make it go left and right as if it was charmed. something about elephant and mouse. They're not actually afraid of each other at all but in cartoons they did. In reality, mice are all over the circus with the elephants and they didn't notice each other at all. Something about the bull getting angry with the red color. It's not true, bull never gets angry with the color red at all. In those matadors (or whatever it is), the bull was actually taunted by the guy waving that red piece of cloth in front of the bull and not the color.

I knew about the panther one only because I did a project on leopards back in grade 8 XD
I didn't know about Mt. Everest, though, but I guess we always assume it's from sea level and up because it's the height people have to climb in order to get to the top.

I will as soon as I retrieve the book from my uncle
@kin: I knew about the snake and the bull but didn't knew about the mice and elephants...cool I just remembered another one though there are some scientific names that I don't remember How many senses has a human? Definitely not five. There are nine currently known but there may be more. I think you all already know about the smell, sight, hearing, tasting and tactile. Well, there are four more: Electroreception: The capability of our bodies to feel the electricity and leap away in reflex. Thermoreception: The capability of our bodies to feel the temperature changes. Balancereception: The capability of our bodies to feel when we are not balanced. And teh last one, whose name was waaay to long and I couldn't remember it XD: The capability of our bodies to feel the pain and to know where our hand or leg is, even if the lights are off and you can't see it (that's why you can eat with your eyes closed) Some animals have other senses, like the owl which can see in the darkness, just like we see with the ultra-red glasses or the bat, with the echolocation, being able to know where an object is, even if it's blind, using ultrasounds. Oh!OH!! Another one!!! Where did camels first appeared? I'll give you 10 points minus if you say Africa. A recent study reveals the fact the the camels first appeared in North America. It seemed that due to some temperature changes (or so I remember) they dissapeared from North America and re-appeared in Africa. (Not sure about this one tough)

@Wolfie_girl: And another sense humans have: pressure. We can feel when pressure is applied to our bodies. It's different from touch, because it's possible to feel the pressure of something and not the texture of it. At least that's what our biology teacher said back when I had biology.
But did you know that smell and taste are mostly the same sense (apart from few things that are truly sensed in the mouth, like saltiness and sweetness)? For example if you close your nose, it's near impossible to distinguish between an apple and a potato (if you eat them while your nose is closed). I guess we were all fools then... It was an experiment we did at school, in biology class, when we learned about all the senses...

i have one
i dont think it is a fact)Normally corpses leave a bad smell right? well a priestess died not too long ago and the corpse of the priestess instead of leaving a bad smell it left the smell of flowers! To this day it is giving the odour of roses and other flowers. The body is shut in a coffin in France, to prove this u can do web searches for this.

A wives' tale that many people believed in: "Gum will stay inside your body for 7 years blah blah blah...."
If you look closely, you can see it floating beside your corn. +_+
