Considering how schizophrenic/bipolar the greek gods could be and which version you're reading, it's no wonder the author just gave up to describing 'love' lol.

As for mythology: I've been following Humon's humorous pictures about nordic creatures and find it fascinating.

Especially their elves who have holes in their back that look like they have rotten flesh inside.

Hmm, we have ghosts like that back in Indonesia...

And I do so love Human's stuff. It did the world more justice than Hetalia did. As far as I know anyway.

I won't count on Hetalia for anything if I were you. The historical facts are mostly quite accurate, but the author apparently tried too hard to appeal to the Yaoi fangirls. Really, the HoYay amount of the manga is really distracting that you can read the strips, and end up learning absolutely nothing new about history.

Yeah, 'course not. That's why Humon's stuff are more relevant to life.

Hetalia happened because the author found some international jokes involving historical events that may or may not be true. So the early comic strips are mostly based on LULZY rumors. I don't think the author even got the international relationships right sometimes, but whatevs.

Heh. Even Hetalia fanarts can be more historically accurate than the original works. Remember the person who made the "History of Canada" strips? Along with the History of Taiwan and some others.... Yeah, that is more reliable historic source than Himaruya's works can ever be.

I'd now rather read Horrible Histories than Hetalia. But... moving on. This isn't a Hetalia/history club. Although some history are related to myths.

P.S. I thought I've posted this piece of note. But I guess that's what happen if you open so many tabs at once. You don't remember what you're doing in each tab before you exit them.

Same here. Many times I thought I posted something, only to realize I never hit the "submit" button before wandering off elsewhere.

Anyways. Myths.

Does stuff like vampires and werewolves count? *headscratch*

According to wiki, both werewolf and vampires are mythological/folkloric creatures recorded in many old, old cultures; so I take it that discussion about those two can be talked about here.

So... Anyone knows why we have the vampires vs. werewolves thing? Why are these two races so against each other?

Heard some mumble about the movie Underworld or whatnot It's definitely not from any folklore at all, because some myths actually state werewolves can turn into vampires and some others say werewolves and vampires are the same thing. It just happened at some point, then everyone jumped on the bandwagon, and then it became a commonly accepted thing.

Berating Marvel!Thor and Loki now? You're really late to the party.

Marvel Thor has been around since 1962. Anything they're ridiculing has probably already been state multiple times lol.

Eh, I had no issues with the Marvel!Thor concept... Other than the whole cheesy romance Movie!Loki is cool. I like him. Maybe it's just me and my tendency to like the antagonist. Or maybe I just prefer dark-haired, flimsy guys over buff blonds.

If I had cared enough about Marvel, I would've drawn a crossover fanart featuring movie-Marvel!Thor and Loki in the Thyrm story. Except that I don't care enough It IS an amusing idea...

Say, I've seen a lot of stories where various pantheons of gods co-exist. Then you would have about a dozen gods for the same role (e.g: Thor, Zeus, Indra, Set, Raijin, Lei Gong, Thunderbird, etc are all gods of thunder). The most common way to have it done is have each set of god take care of the "district" that believes in them. Zeus and co handle the stuff in Greece, and they won't touch China, for example.

Ya think mashing myths like that would work? Make an interesting story? No?

Done tactfully, it works out fine.

As a totally bias Xena fan, my example still stands

Off the top of my head for gods/mythical creatures Xena encountered: Christian God, Jesus, most of the olympian gods, a japanese spirit, Thor, Odin, Valkyries, and Vishnu.

I know, but I don't read much Marvel comics (or any Western comics for that matter), so I didn't really care until I watched Avengers recently. Anyway, that's besides the point. The main point of my previous post was, while browsing for Norse myth articles, I came across that very funny piece of story and decided to share it here.

About Loki... I don't know why people like to think he's a tall, dark and handsome Norse counterpart of Hades. Loki in the original myth is a redhead. Just like Thor.

@KTC: What the blah? Jesus? I am having a very hard time imagining it...

@Rogue: What? Where? Who got it up in their heads that Loki is this uber sexy dude? *thinks* Reckon it had anything to do with the movie or Marvel? Movie!Loki was pretty spiffy, if I do say so myself.

Well, according to the myths, Loki is one of the very few good-looking Giants (in Norse Myth, Giants are described as ugly monsters, while the Giantesses are extremely beautiful). I just don't get why many people like to depict him as a dark-haired man, while Thor a blond. Dunno if Marvel invoked this or they just popularized this belief, but both of them are redheads.
