Berating Marvel!Thor and Loki now? You're really late to the party.
Marvel Thor has been around since 1962. Anything they're ridiculing has probably already been state multiple times lol.

Eh, I had no issues with the Marvel!Thor concept... Other than the whole cheesy romance
Movie!Loki is cool. I like him. Maybe it's just me and my tendency to like the antagonist. Or maybe I just prefer dark-haired, flimsy guys over buff blonds. If I had cared enough about Marvel, I would've drawn a crossover fanart featuring movie-Marvel!Thor and Loki in the Thyrm story. Except that I don't care enough It IS an amusing idea...Say, I've seen a lot of stories where various pantheons of gods co-exist. Then you would have about a dozen gods for the same role (e.g: Thor, Zeus, Indra, Set, Raijin, Lei Gong, Thunderbird, etc are all gods of thunder). The most common way to have it done is have each set of god take care of the "district" that believes in them. Zeus and co handle the stuff in Greece, and they won't touch China, for example. Ya think mashing myths like that would work? Make an interesting story? No?

Done tactfully, it works out fine.

As a totally bias Xena fan, my example still stands
Off the top of my head for gods/mythical creatures Xena encountered: Christian God, Jesus, most of the olympian gods, a japanese spirit, Thor, Odin, Valkyries, and Vishnu.

I know, but I don't read much Marvel comics (or any Western comics for that matter), so I didn't really care until I watched Avengers recently. Anyway, that's besides the point. The main point of my previous post was, while browsing for Norse myth articles, I came across that very funny piece of story and decided to share it here. About Loki... I don't know why people like to think he's a tall, dark and handsome Norse counterpart of Hades. Loki in the original myth is a redhead. Just like Thor.

@KTC: What the blah? Jesus?
I am having a very hard time imagining it...@Rogue: What? Where? Who got it up in their heads that Loki is this uber sexy dude? *thinks* Reckon it had anything to do with the movie or Marvel? Movie!Loki was pretty spiffy, if I do say so myself.

Well, according to the myths, Loki is one of the very few good-looking Giants (in Norse Myth, Giants are described as ugly monsters, while the Giantesses are extremely beautiful). I just don't get why many people like to depict him as a dark-haired man, while Thor a blond. Dunno if Marvel invoked this or they just popularized this belief, but both of them are redheads.

That's an age-old good vs. bad stereotype to make it easy to determine who is good and who is bad just by looking at them. Light hair = good Dark hair = bad Like in old American westerns: the good guy wears a white cowboy hat and the bad guy wears a black cowboy hat.

Only since the gods in old myths are major-league jerks anyway, that stereotype is not very valid.
Like the Zeus and Hades thing... Media seem to enjoy portraying Zeus as the Big Good, and Hades as the Big Bag. In the myths, they don't really have any hostility towards one another; and based on their behavior to the humans, Zeus is a bigger jerk.

I don't find him a jerk though. He's a womanizer alright, which I can relate. Nothing bad about it (even if the women are the ones who suffer).

That, compared to Hades who pretty much don't do anything, is still more of a jerky behaviour =_____=
Big Good Zeus vs Big Bad Hades = TV Tropes call this "Hijacked by Jesus" ![]()

He's only more jerky if you think womanizing is bad.

There is the little bit of forcing himself on women whether they want it or not. Of course they can't say no to the king of gods.
Eh, minor inconvenience anyway.

-_- Of course his womanizing is bad, since the woman and her child (if she had any) would have to receive the full brunt of Hera's wrath later on. Or Zeus turn her into animals so that Hera won't find out. Made even worse if the girl did not actually consent (but in Ancient Greece, your opinion won't matter if you're a female).
He's basically screwing with many people's lives and getting away with it. I call that a jerk.

Well he protects some of his children too. Many of the people either gets turned into flowers (Narcissus) or animals, what's so bad about it? At least they're not dead. = ="
There's nothing wrong with screwing other people's lives and not feeling a bit guilty about it. He and the other gods are only the physical form of humans' personalities. Plus there'd be a lot less of Greek myths if he didn't do what he did. I personally find Hera's constant jealousy fits frustrating. It's like, GET ON WITH IT. Not happy, then find another god/mortal to share your love with like Persephone and Aphrodite.

I see you're not mentioning about the rape part.
And I doubt guilt had anything to do with it: He's a god and humans are his playthings. So he plays with them as he sees fit and when he tires of them, he discards them. The kids just happen to be the more interesting toys at the moment.
