I used my compass to escape from jail and now I can not get back in to free Ulf. I tried speaking with the investigator and annoyed to guards but they just say Move Along.

This was a bug in build A. If you update to build B you will be able to get back into jail. Where did you purchase your game? It's possible your portal doesn't have build B yet (though it's been available for months). If that's the case, head here and grab all three patches (to solve this problem as well as two other gamestoppers in build A).
