English is a living language, as such it changes. Maybe you'd be surprised to hear me tell you that very soon " " is going to be a word in the dictionary.

Emoticons officially recognized as language? Meaning you could put one into your thesis paper and still get an A+? Yes sir, that day is fast approaching.

Before you grammar obsessed out there get upset, about it think a little deeper. Once upon a time in the world graphical images representing complex thoughts were the ONLY form of writing. Most famously, hieroglyphs. I believe adding emoticons into our language will allow us to express ourselves better than ever before! So come on, be happy ^_^!

I totally agree, it's one of my favorites! I use it mostly when I'm so confused I just can't think

From the basic emoticons 8D I like the best.

From anime style emoticons I use -.-' most and like my friend's favorites ~.^ and *.* most.

I use that one too, I think it like, someone's grinning with sunglasses on. 8D

I and a few of my friends consider it as a sarcastic emoticon. It can be placed after a sentence that you don't really mean like

"yeah I do that all the time 8D"

and you've never done such thing (whatever it is).

oo, i thought it meant extreme excitement, even more so than XD or :D (cuz you're so excited your eyes are wide open)
