(quite literally a camera and filming you) photoshopping film is much more difficult than photoshopping pictures.

I disagree. The mainstream view of China is that they are morally bankrupt, don't respect natural rights, etc. when in reality, we can't say that at all. You can say that privacy in China isn't respected the same way it is here, or that civil rights in China aren't respected the same way they are here. Setting the bar globally to be equal to what it is by our cultural standards is one of the hurdles that a lot of people have difficulty jumping through when trying to understand the socio-political ongoings of other nations. It's easy to note differences between morality. It's harder to note that the values upon which we build our morals are inherently different.

@canta: ignoring morality (since why is this entering the equation? anything for the country's 'good' automatically overrides a silly thing called morality. The ends justify the means.), china definitely has some privacy issues from the getgo as do any nation.
US got their patriot act, FBI, CIA, other forces we don't know about. China got their own privacy 'pirates'. And so on. If they really wanted to dig into your privacy/life, it wouldn't be too hard. Luckily, most of us are deemed harmless hence 'privacy'. But, this isn't about china government. This is about a MMO company which I believe doesn't have the same resources as the government.

@wolfie: There's nothing moral about torture techniques, shipping people off to Guantanamo and keeping them there indefinitely, being a general big brother always looking over your shoulder and yet that's what the US (and most countries) is like.
Moral when it suits it but always ready to fling that away for amoral tactics if those work better.

The whole point is to keep it hush hush so it won't anger the population if they learn what their country is really doing/allowing. (scroll down to Disbanding and end of WW2 and what Douglas MacArthur did. why is this tidbit never in US history books?) as for big brother: that's what the patriot act is pretty much allowing. XD (good thing most of us are really uninteresting. )

That info is just a means to ends that can be reached in other ways. It'd be tough but can be done. Esp. if full disclosure becomes involved with all parties. I thought the patriot act is just internal.

Doesn't anyone hold the notion that morality is relative o.O? As one who does, I agree with KTC on the notion that every country has their definitions of what is or is not acceptable, and goes according to that.
