Alright,I accept that organisms can survive at that depth.
The reason I was mentioning oil reserves was not because you said anything about it but wolfie,whose point I actually argued against had mentioned caves (created as a result of mining fossil fuels) as a habitat for organisms (in general).Wolfie had not mentioned any specific organisms which was the reason I argued in the first place and you misunderstood why I blabbering about oil reserves all along.Well,now you know. If it was just any underground cave,I wouldn't have challenged his/her point. Anyways,now it's settled.Certain organisms survive at low depths.

than you should direct those points to wolfie NOT throw them at me. Keep everything on the topic on hand (ie do organisms exist down there) instead of throwing in other stuff that is entirely irrelevant to that discussion (oil fields, creature size, holes, etc).
several times you twisted my statements and/or treated my arguments as if they were wolfies: "are you saying we should modify each and every one of them genetically just so that we have an excuse for depleting our natural resources and make an underground sanctuary?" "Thus,if it is only the micro-organisms that can live there,then it is of no big use is it?" Don't do that.

I did direct them at wolfie.
But I cant just argue without a base.So I had to give reasons for my thoughts i.e. creature size. I did not particularly mention oil fields,just fossil fuel reserves in general.And the only reason I 'threw' them at you was because I had to 'give reasons for my thoughts'. that's all.

@valky:
being directed at wolfie is like this: @ wolfie: statements things directed at me would be like this: @ ktc: statements and so on. everything you said looked and sounded like it was thrown at me.

Oh well,my mistake.

I would take a genetic sampling of the plant, swoop to my secret underground layer! I would then make a clone of that plant and give it to the animal instead!
Actually I'd probably leave it there. And alone. Because I don't like to mess in other peoples beewax (or animal). So yeah. I might also eat it like KTC if it sounds good. ![]()

@Val:
Ok, first off that wasn't sarcasm, but a legitimate (though highly blunt) statement of concern Now, I don't know about everyone else but I prefer to assume that when someone does sth like that that it's based on other things going on in their life/environment. For example, some people get cranky if they don't have enough sleep. They also can't focus as well. Mopiece's statements that day seemed as though he/she'd barely skimmed the walls of text. he/she also seemed pretty cranky/mean. Since I didn't notice anything of the sort on previous days, I can't say that Mopiece is just always like that, so it must be environmental. he/she also mentioned being tired. so... that's where I got that conclusion. anyway, the caves as a habitat thing. . . I can see how it might be a problem for bats to navigate the tunnels left behind by digging equipment but bugs have no such problems. So, provided a food source,those can live there. Fungi also thrive in dark, most spaces. There's no doubt that it's dark down there, and over time, I'm sure rainwater will go down the aforementioned tunnels, so there's your moisture. Leaf cutter ants eat fungi. Roaches can also live on the moisture. Bigger bugs can eat those bugs. Now, burrowing creatures and that live on bugs have a reason to go down there as well. Depending on if the well was mined straight down or at an angle, you can also have small animals (esp. bats that navigate w/ sonar) finding their way down there and liking the bug food source. & since so many predators rely on sight it's safer for a lot of prey animals that don't need it as much. Eventually, the rainwater will start filling the hole, and make an underground lake that can feed plants on the surface, which will then work their roots down and soften up the ground so it can absorb more water until some sort of equilibrium is reached. Where that is will vary depending on the well and probably vary over time, so some will still be full of water and just feed the plants while others create an underground cave as for depth, why not? conditions would be fairly similar to those in a mountain cave environment, except darker and with less access to the outside. Balance: Humans aren't nature. I was talking about nature, you were talking about organisms. But if perspective gets too small. . . then preventing all harm done to everything just gets cumbersome. . . I mean, there's nothing that doesn't harm or hinder the development of something else in order to survive.

Alright with your opinion but bugs and cockroaches aren't endangered animals,quite the opposie xD
anyways,a number of creatures may survive in deep tunnels but that number is small. that's all. ![]()

well, why should we give preference to the endangered ones?
"because there's less of them" seems pretty arbitrary. (not saying we should let those die, but if we can create new habitats for common creatures or no new habitats at all I say go for the new habitats. who knows, maybe some endangered creatures 'll find refuge there too, even if it's all by accident.) then again, "there's less of them" seems to be a pretty common determinant these days. . . for everything from minority scholarships to leftie power tools/lack thereof. (though I wonder if that leftie thing means I can somehow just get workmans comp prior to injury since the company doesn't provide safe equipment.) [EDIT:](if anyone sees it. =P) I guess it sounds like I was saying that people are doing no harm to the environment but that wasn't ever my point. What I meant to point out was that all this buzz about how oil drilling and everything people do is bad for the environment is a limited & incomplete (therefore incorrect) view of what's going on. Some damage is done while healing and rebuilding/building is done in other ways. Remember, nobody ever got anywhere without having to give up getting somewhere else.(or got anything w/o giving up sth else.)[/edit]
