I don't think anyone has posted this yet but it's covers a number of theories for handedness (if someone has, I blame my cold for not noticing).
Handedness I didn't throughly read it since I have the attention span of a gnat right now but it seems to be a combination of genetics, biology, environment, social, etc....in other words, scientists aren't really sure yet and it's complex. And what do you know, there's actually a Handedness Research Institute Anyways, in my own family, my younger brother is the only one who is left handed. When he was younger, he would used both hands for things but tended toward the left hand. The left hand is what he uses for most things now that he's older.

I want to say the same thing as arggie said in his post no. #57 though i also agree mizzou also. It depends which hand child starts using firstly and thus later he founds it more easy to use because he/she is having practice with it. Though genetic..Maybe. also depends on the biological structure. Like my right hand was more powerful from starting.

I just happened to think - My friend Yoko mouses with her left hand and keyboards with her right at the same time! All the data she entered was completely accurate. Blows grandma's mind!

@kb: sounds more like ambidextrous, like how some people are able to write with both hands backwards/forwards at the same time
@connie: that's freaken cool! tried learning 1 hand typing but didn't stick with it.

@kbl & ktc - Yoko is the fastest person I ever saw at entering data! Her brain is something else. She was a lot of fun to work with too, as she always brought me back manga that I could not get whenever she went back home to Japan to visit her son. That was very considerate! She was a freak for 'duckies' so that is what I always brought back for her on my travels.
Being ambidexterous must improve brain function. Is there any researcfh on that?

@connie: err, research saids otherwise.
than again, left handed women are at higher risk for breast cancer and apparently we're more idiotic than righties and gay men are righties so your mileage may vary

@ ktc - you crack me up!!! quote http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/artic ... ed-peers-study-finds.html I have to say that my sister who is left handed is not only far and away the smartest pup in the litter, she is a well known artist in her own right. (And she would pull my hair if I said any different.) My own dear man is the wittiest and most intellegent person I have ever known. He is a DBA in a unit that specializes in some fairly esteric stuff for the State of Washington.
I have heard the http://www.edgeboston.com/index.php?c ... bt&sc2=news&sc3=&id=52936 before and can't remember to ask any of my gay loved ones if they are righties or lefties! I will email my sister with http://www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk/ ... current.html#breastcancer Thanks! (edited my poor typing, sorry.)

In my homeland left-handed people are considered to be particularly unique even thought to be not mixed well with public. Most left-handed people were made to change their nature in their childhood. Fortunately I was born to be right-handed after all...

@Connie and ktc: lolz sooooo many links.
@Ktc: Lolz yes she may be a ambidextrous. IMO Though i don't consider mousing with left hand that difficult. I can use it for all functions except for painting or using GIMP on computer. Mousing with left hand is not that difficult. @Connie: Wow! And by entering data. do you mean by typing or entering data with mouse?? I am the fastest person in my school at typing( at least fastest in 3 classes to which i competed). @Rafa: yeah i would also like to know what place is it?

@kb: can you mouse with one hand and type with the other at the same time? The multitasking part is key here.

Re: my friend that mouses w/ left and keyboards at same time with right:
The Data that Yoko was entering involved mousing from one place to another and quickly and accurately entering data regarding water/energy usage for our corporate client into a proprietary progam using data from their power bills. These bills come from huge cities and small towns. They are Water/sewer; Nat Gas; Electricity and Garbage/recycling utility companies from all over the world. Each one has a format that is completely different from the others, and will be in many different languages. She has to know the teminology and understand the data that she is entering or it will be entered improperly, skewing the results. The bills are faxed daily to her. My own task was different, and involved retrieving missing invoices for around 6000 utility accounts for one major client by calling the utility companies or going to the websites and getting rerpints. Many of these companies don't have websites and don't know how to use a fax machine lol! The information had to be complete and accurate or the analyses would be skewed, and proper measures to control waste would not be taken. The client would then have higher bills, thus lowering their profit margin. The company's task was to ensure that proper conservation of resources is a financial imperative for some of the worlds leading corporations. Everyone profits when we leave a smaller footprint. It a company built around an energy management program that two old hippies built on a wild idea in the early 90's and they are now the leader in the industry. My youngest daughter is still working as a programmer for them. My friend is still working for them, but I am retired. When I get home from the business trip I am currently on with my hubby I am taking her a new duckie!

to me, mousing with left is not that hard, nor easy, just about to practice, and it's awkward to me when the first time. BUT typing with ONE hand and do it REALLY FAST must be really hard. I mean, i even can't type that fast(maybe medium-speed) with TWO of my hands. She must be ambidextrous and really good with it(since she works with that way everyday)
wow, really amazing

Well, typing with one hand is just the matter of practice, and if you do it every day, you can do it, as well as mousing.
But do you NEED to do it with both hands?

@lilac: well, it happens because i'm not type much, and i taught to type with my both hands. and yes, i could type with just one hand, and still, that slow, since i think typing really bored(because i just type when i have an assignment to do) and it comes that i must remember all of that letters positions for my typing test. That's all

@Ktc: Yes i can mouse with my right hand and enter data with my left hand together. Just don't change those hands and i will do fine. Though i won't type very fast but i can still type and do mousing together. I will type at a normal speed.
I am good at typing because i have used computer since i was 4 years old. Thus its just a matter of practice. I can mouse with my RIGHT hand and type with my LEFT hand together. Though i only get in need of doing that when using microsoft excel. Otherwise i don't need to do that. Its just a matter of practice as connie's friend works everyday like that and i only work like that when helping my mom with microsoft excel. So practice does matter. @Connie: Oh wow! Such a cool but tough job it must be! And you also must be having fun meeting so many ppl of around the world(as you sometimes told us about the fun you had when you you met a lot of ppl from different countries in your job)

@ kb - it was a great job, and there were so many people from all over Asia and Europe. But i am retired from that job now, and all I do is some bookkeeping for a friend who owns a business but is bad at bookkeeping, for 3 mornings a week and the rest of the time I write.
I am not good at all with the left hand, and I spent some time trying to draw with only my left hand this week. The pictures came out very strange!
