Short one- "Once Upon a time, in a Kingdom far, far, away" (54 later becomes) "Rahman, England."
Yep. But the one I really wanted to share is this one: "The good writing of any age has always been the product of someone's neurosis, and we'd have a mighty dull literature if all the writers that came along were a bunch of happy chuckleheads" ...54 translations later we get: "Suitable for all ages, from house to wait for a nervous, strong, i, Literature, my book group is empty." ((Along the way we get Good writing, of any age is always the result of neurosis someone and we want a strong deaf literature, where all the books that came along with a group of empty warheads and ...have a strong Deaf literature, all the books, together with a group of empty heads and Good knowledge of all age groups, because of neurosis, we expect a strong deaf, Literature, my book is all empty, as a group)) I get a kick out of 'warheads'

I used a quote from sherlock holmes:
"Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." This is what I got after 54 translations: "Also, I think it will be deleted."

did this one. (was too long at first so had to cut it down.)
Quote: Machine translations are useful for getting a general idea about what text written in a foreign language means. However, "general idea" isn't exactly accurate; the translator literally translates (word for word) the text which often results in gramm and got Quote: Tool and machine translation. This rule does not apply because of the time (right). put that back into it and got Quote: Equipment, (legal) translation engine Joel did that agian Quote: Street) (machine translation, Joel. and then. Quote: Court of first example (Joel has already Automated. (ok, I'm just gonna start pasting them in now...) Quote: Model 1 (Joel directly Quote: Appendix 1 (joerudairekuto. Quote: Appendix 1 (joerudairekuto. Quote: Appendix 1 (joerudairekuto. ... it seems to get that right at least... also tried mashed potatoes Quote: Laibeatsh. was what I got out of it. and somewhere in the middle, there was Quote: squishy mud

Here are some things I put in:
1."Pie is so awesome!" After 10 = "Pita is so great!" After 25 = "Pies are great!" After 54 = "Big feet!" (Where the heck did that come from?) 2."There is nobody better than a demon" After 10 = "No one more than the devil" After 25 = "Satan" After 54 = "Deposit" (Whut?) 3. "Surfing in the air is so awesome!" After 10 = "Search medon very cool!" After 25 = "Medora looks good!" After 54 = "Fedora delicious!" (Whu . . .) 4. "I like feeding pigs slop in the morning." After 10 = "I want to be used in pigs." After 25 = "I want to use pigs." After 54 = "I used pork." (Weird) Yeah, this is so fun but now I totally need a break from it.

I'd be interested to see what would happen if you gave a bunch of real life translators such a phrase (and each one only knows the previous one's translation)
and see what they come up with after 54... chances are, probably sth similar to the weirdness from the automated translators.

I did this one just now.
"Pouring soup to tiny rocks is so rude." After 10 = "Soup in small stones and rough." After 25 = "Small stones and cooking." After 54 = "Rock and fire." (What in the world does that mean?)

"All we ever say is blah blah blah. And we feel safe with blah blah blah."
54 later: "We are one of the words, etc. We believe that safety." It sounds somewhat intelligent after the translation.

This one isn't Aveyond related, but it is a classic error in tranlasting english/japanese.
"All Your Base Are Belong to Us." Just to show how bad something can get.

This is cute, although of course the fact that they translate to Croatian, Chinese, etc is what helps make every translation turns out so terrible. For languages that are somewhat more closely related to our own (usually the first couple in the list) the translation tends to remain fairly accurate.
I tried it with "hello". At Belarussian they translated it to "greeting", which remained the same until, of course, Chinese, which translated it as "meet". At Galician it became "search", which is what it remained for the rest of the 50 times. The Belarussian one is a reasonable mis-translation based on what I know of Russian. (and if you translated a letter and hello! became greeting! I think you can still get the general idea) But based on how the chinese (or japanese, for that matter, but I think chinese might be an aggravated case) alphabet works, it should be obvious it would be skewed. ...on the other hand, translating large blocks of text from arabic to english, just once, still leaves you with large indecipherable patches and then various paragraphs you get the general sense from. So. Yeah. Machine translation sucks. ---- @wolfie: No, it would definitely change, but if they were given sentences (not just a word) then human translators would at least make sure it makes sense in context. For idioms that don't make sense out of their native tongue, of course...

They would make sense in context, and it would be kinda hard to get sth like...
"all your base belong to us" gets translated to "A." but a lot of translated phrases (esp when the languages' associated/originating countries are a large distance away) don't fully make sense after being translated without extra context that isn't within the sentence. (point of reference, chocktaw and navajo code talkers in WWI and WWII referring to army battalions as grains of corn because the language doesn't contain such complex military terms.)

Okay guys... Stop trying to analyze why and how the words' original meanings got lost in translation. It ruins the fun.

"I need some sleep, time to lay the old horse down. Tried counting sheep, and the world keeps spinning round" (54 later to)
"Just below the cost of my ancestors in again in the future of our world." Ummmmm.... What? How the heck did that turn into that? I really don't know. For anyone interested, here's some random ones in tiny font. I need some sleep time to the old horse to go to bed. Try to count sheep, and the world keeps spinning through I need some sleep time in the old horse to go to bed. Try counting sheep, and around the world to the end and keep spinning I need some sleep, old horse to sleep. Try counting sheep, and around the world, stop and reverse I have to sleep with an old horse to sleep. Try counting sheep, and around the world, stop and reverse I have to sleep on an old horse to sleep. Try to calculate the sheep, and around the world, stop and reverse the I have to sleep to sleep on an old horse. Try to calculate the sheep, and stop the world and turn back : I have to sleep in sleeping in an old horse. Try to figure out the sheep, and stop the world and turn back I have an old horse to sleep. Try to understand the sheep, and stop the world and turn back I have a horse to an old gold. Sheep try to understand, and the world to stop and turn back I have a horse in old gold. Sheep trying to understand, and the world will stop, then turn on again I have an old Golden Horse. Aware of the sheep, the world is trying to stop again later I have an old Golden Horse. Amounts recognized in the future again to stop the world I have an old golden horse. Amounts recognized in the future once again stop the world I have a horse gold. The amounts approved in the future once more to stop the world My Golden Horse. Approved amount again in the future to stop the world Right below the cost of my ancestors had to stop in the future of our world. Bad translator indeed.

i put "help me with my homework" and it turned into "we need you help". that's just lame.
"the sky is falling down" turned into "October sky" and "eat" turned into "there is" which turned into "there" which suddenly turned into "name". i just dont get it.
