Are we allowed to edit this? (add our own parts, recolor, etc?) I want to make an autumn-y set of trees, etc, and snow covered houses. Is this allowed?

Editing is not only allowed, but encouraged!
You still give credit for the original content.

And, if you're feeling benevolent, post the updated tileset, and Nick can update the D/L so everyone can use it. (If you're going to share, don't change any of the existing tiles, just add new ones at the bottom. Or if you're making a seasonal version of the whole tileset, give it a new name, (World3_autumn)

i would like to ad to the world map versions
my version contains about 10 different Kingdoms/castles
about 30 different landmarks
about 20 different villages
and an updated underworld map, credits on the tileset and in a document so the one using it knows who to credit if they forget, and since i completely edited it i put 2 world maps in each folder mine and the original
since i am uploading it right now i will post the link when its done so nick can update it
EDIT:
I had a link on here and it had some resources from vx so i'm not sure about the issue there but I'm pretty sure that you can't use vx resources unless you own vx which i own xp and vx so i took it down sorry

accually people who have windows xp can without any winrawr, ect. because its preloaded with uncompressing programs like unzip wizard (something like that). i know this because i have windows xp. as for the world map what layer do you add the part that connects the ocean to the river?

So... I've done the land mass in layer 2, the water outside the land mass in layer 1.

Now I notice that the grass I'm putting inside the land mass in layer 1 either goes over the outline of the land or stays within it... squarey looking.

How do I make the grass stay within the borders like in the screen shot?

I believe you need to reverse your layers... land masses on layer 1, water on layer 2... that will create the borders you are looking for...

It say land mass in tile 2 in the first post is all...

The grass is still squared and doesn't look rounded to the land outline.

I made a screen shot but don't know how to show it on here.
