Recycled Artwork for a commercial game? #1

Hello peeps! I have a question to ask all of you.

I'm making a game for commercial purposes. Actually, I'm a long ways from completion but I was wondering, if I were to use artwork from a previous released game, like Ahriman's Prophecy, but used them in a totally different way, would people buy the game? Or would they look down upon the re-cycled graphics?

What do you think?

if you didn't ask the creators' permission to use their work--especially in a commercial game--people would definitely look down on it. in fact, it would probably be called "copyright infringement."

if you had permission? no, no one would care at all if the graphics were reycled.

Agreed, though I would be hesitant to use AP graphics simply because its 'out of date' compared to the likes of rmxp/vx.

I myself prefer AP graphics, but the majority of people right now prefer rmxp/vx graphics as they are the latest.

Yes, of course permission or licensing would be sought first.

I do wonder though if low-resolution graphics will be an impediment to commercial success.

But people seem to love RPG2K games like Ahriman's Prophecy, and Ara Fell.

If you make it with a good plot then people may overlook the fact that it's lower quality graphics.

@dark: that's because they were around since before rmxp/rmvx so they developed good reputations and people remember them fondly. They were gems among all the crappy rm2k3 games.

Now you have mainly rmxp/vx games. An rm2k3 game would probably need to be exceptionally good to get people to prefer it to the more updated rmxp/vx games, especially since most now are used to rmxp/vx games. Unfortunately, first impressions is very important and if your game looks like 'crap' (rm2k3 vs rmvx/xp), it might lead to people not even bothering with it.

I remember reading recent posts on AP's graphics inquiring whether they could be updated or not to rmxp/vx graphics.
