Indeed...I saw OVAs that don`t respect the manga,anyway not all the events and details... And about the anime,there are many animes that start when the manga it`s still ongoing,so it`s up to directors to finish the story as they want,while in the manga there is a completly diferent ending... As example:Hellsing. It`s totaly different:the manga and anime... I heard it`s the same thing with Nana,Death note and Chobits or Elden Lied,I`m not sure... I`ll watch them and read the manga to see the diferences... From the ones above,I watched all the episodes only from Hellsing and Chobits,but I have the mangas... Oh,now I see how much I`d written...

Well, Air Gear's anime finished before it reaches the main plot so most people end up thinking that the whole thing doesn't have a plot and don't want to read the manga, like my friend. But the manga's main plot seems to be beginning soon so... yeah ^^

Hellsing's OVA is faithful to the manga. The earlier anime has too much of military stuff and too little blood shed. Furgason doesn't exist in the manga. xD

From what I heard from a friend, Death Note anime is faithful to the manga too. I stopped halfway watching though. ^^

From what I understand, manga are the mangaka's original ideas while anime changes depending on how the script writer/directors changes it. Most anime's plot divert from their manga counterparts. This is one thing, I never liked about anime as the manga's ending as WAY better... I especially hated how Chrno Crusade ended in the manga. I was near to tear(couldn't seem to cry, my friend called me cold blooded for that)when I managed to read the manga's ending. It was definitely much more better.

@Bemused: but the Hellsing anime,that one with 13 episodes,it`s not like the manga and OVA... And I`m sure I still saw some little diferences between manga and OVA... And about Death Note,a friend of mine who`s mad after DN said that there is a part of anime which does not respect the manga...

@Ellie:well,as I understanded too,and as I know,first appears the manga and then it`s the anime/movie/OVA...

There are a few animes where I don't hate their storyplot or ending...Saiunkoku Monogatari, the manga is taking FOREVER! so far volume 3 in Japan (I heard), anime's season 2 is already out...Ginban Kaleidoscope, but I'm dying of curiosity what the other "untold" tales there are in the novel. I can't understand the novel fully, though I can read Japanese...understanding it is a different story. I'm still trying to master that language and I'm still not good enough... (-.-)

I actually prefer to watch the Anime, because I'm too lazy to catch up on the Manga. But I do read the manga when I feel that the Anime's plot is so hanging, Claymore for example. I didn't like the Anime's ending at all so I ended up reading the manga

The artwork seems sort of old, but the story is unbeatable.

The anime versions of manga are generally a shortened-version of the manga. There may be characters or events left out of the anime version. It's the equivalent to American books turned into movies. Just look at Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, for example. I can make a long list of things that were left out from the books.

My preference would be to read the manga first to get the full story from the artist/author's perspective before I watch the anime version.

Neither the novel LotR is of the US, nor its movies. >.<

1. Fillers make some animes longer than the mangas.
2. In anime, certain aspect are made milder so that it is suitable for general viewing.

Yeah, I agree that it is better to read the manga first before watching the anime, if you plan to do both. ^^
