lol, For me it's huge pillows under my legs and back a comforter and a mug of cocoa.(Winter style)
Or a hammock and a glass of ice cold lemonade for the Summer. Piers Anthony has a super series called Xanth for very light comical, punny fantasy reading ![]() http://www.piers-anthony.com/xanth.html I think I remember some of the members mentioning a desire to read the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy also.

......And I just lie down on a couch in the evening reading by the dimming natural light. Hoping no one will interrupt me like they tend to do... >.<
Some of my friends have recommended Sarah Dessen's works. (The?) Truth about Forever comes to mind.

I like most of the suggestions in this thread(I'm reading New Moon as I type)... but it leads me to a point that needs to be made- since there are younger children on this site, no books that haven't been read by at least two people should be done... and an age should be agreed upon for each book. Like... if we did the Hobbit... I would say that's a pretty good book for anyone to read... I read it the first time when I was 8 and my nine year old sister is about to try reading it... but Twilight should not be read by anyone under... 14 in my opinion. Things like that should definitely be agreed upon and posted.
I'll post a list of books and ages later... I'm reading New Moon...

I agree Marian that since there are younger people on the site that may be interested in joining in on the reading. We do need to make sure books are appropriate for varying ages. Since it may be hard to find two or more people that have a read a book perhaps we could read reviews and the suggested ages on amazon.com or something. I also think that books should be chosen not only depending on content appropriate to different ages but by reading levels as well. If we choose a higher reading level book some may not be able to participate within the time frame.

Good point. No Peeps, Wicked Lovely, or Ink Exchange for anyone who's not at least thirteen... Bartimaeus is good for all ages, though, as is the whole Circle of Magic/Circle Opens series up until Will of the Empress.
I think everything I read now is really teen/young adult oriented. *shrug*

Same thing here, Rena.
Twilight, I wasn't saying we need to always have G-rated books... we just need to make sure that we have a good spread and that we post a recommended age. Kind of like.... we give books a PG-(insert age here) rating. ![]()

The Thomas Covenant book should probably be the same as an R rated movie. The Xanth novels are good for any age (they got my son interested in reading at age 13).

Ooh, this sounds like so much fun! I recommend The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. It's been many years since I read it, but I think it's appropriate to different ages. I've been wanting to read it again for a while now.

Time to get serious. Pardon me for the randomness I uttered because I was sick for two days.
Anyone heard of the book "Who moved my cheese?" (Thats the. Its quite an old story about a couple of mouse and another couple of little people trying to search for a place full of food where they can live happy. Thats a very short summary to it. It has a moral that tells us not to be selfish. Thats all ![]()

There are so many good books, but I'll try to suggest just a few:
Susan Cooper's The Dark Is Rising LLoyd Alexander's The Black Cauldron Laurence Yep's Dragonwings (I guess this one isn't strictly speaking fantasy) Brian Jacque's Redwall or Castaways of the Flying Duchman

a list of books with suggested "rating" is a good idea...varies things up so that there are different choices and it will provide different readers during those times...sometimes things get locked into just the same few people...but this way everyone can participate in a rotation of sorts...

Wow everyone has such great suggestions! If they aren’t all going to be read within the club I will definitely be putting them on my own personal ‘to read’ list. I’m going to start compiling a list of all the suggestions today and ratings etc so we can decide what shall be the book clubs first book.
If you have more suggestions please still continue to post them or PM them to me. Also if anyone else has ideas on how our first book should be chosen please post that as well.

for the first book... I think we should put it up to an informal vote(meaning no poll). And... we should make a list of people who are interested.
Series: Twilight(14+), Inheritance(11 or 12+), Forbidden Doors(11 or 12+[christian]), Bartimaeus Trilogy(11 or 12+), Harry Potter(8+ with the first two... parental discretion after that), The Giver and Gathering Blue(8 or 9+), *Ender(varies per book), Uglies/Pretties/Specials(13 or 14+), Midnighters(12 or 13+), LotR main(8+), LotR companions(13 or 14+ reading level. Content is fine for younger, imo... but the reading is somewhat difficult), Clone Wars(12+), L'engle's Wrinkle in Time(10+), Maximum Ride(14 or 15+), Hangman's Curse and Nightmare Academy(13 or 14+), Fire Us(9+), Shadow Children Saga(9 or 10+), **Crank and Glass(16 or 17+) Solo Books: Heir Apparent(13+), The Welkening(12+), Lost in Time(10+), The Tolkien Reader(10+), Double Identity(11 or 12+), **Impulse(16 or 17+)] *The Ender saga by Orson Scott Card has a bit of cussing and in the later books, some more mature content. But my parents(very sheltering) let me read them when I was 14("First Meetings" and "Ender's Game" , 15("Ender's Shadow" and "Shadow of the Hegemon" , and 16 for the rest.**they aren't fantasy but they're really good fiction. All three are a hard read not for a weak stomach... but I highly recommend for people of that age group.
