So, we'll have to be given a time and date of when to start the debate. As for school, I'm off for the summer...is there anyone still at school?

You definitely can argue your point, tsamurai... and I think any point of conflict in Mercer's class should count as debate. Anyone can join, and I'll be thrilled to have a chance to debate with/against you. XD

Should standardized tests really hold as much gravity as they do in today's societies or should day-to-day assignments contribute most of your grade?
Should people be able to choose their career path? Or should they be given a path/smaller set of choices?
Should a person's job or career determine their respectability?
When should a person choose what they will do when they grow up, and how should that determine their schooling?
Should underaged mothers be able to decide for themselves whether or not to keep their infant?(this is regarding adoption not abortion)
How should ratings be determined?
Should ratings be universal or determined by each country?
Should books be rated as games and movies are?
Should adult commercials be placed during kid shows?(adult commercials- for mature movies/games/shows, male enhancement, etc)
Should TV shows for kids hold background checks?

@addicted-emma - i think age-related topics would be really good seeing as how we have a decent age-span...

Well I have lots of opinions, so I'm up for debating. I think we too often don't really listen to other people's points of view as if our own views couldn't stand to be challenged. I think this club is a great idea.

Question... What if we misunderstand what someone is trying to say? Do we get a chance to redo that rebuttal, or response to rebuttal?
EDIT: I'm not sure I quite understand the rules either... So, we give an opening arguement. Someone can respond to our arguement. Then we repond back to them? I think I'm a little lost...

@Basset Yes. This is run more like a real debate. Each person gives their argument. Then you can each respond to the opposing argument. Then one more time you can give a final defense of your argument.

I have a suggestion. Sometimes when you are defending a personal opinion, feelings get in the way. Perhaps you should chose whos on what team, randomly. That would make the debate less of personal oppinions than deffending a side. Perhaps if we had only one or two like this, even that would be good.

But its only a suggestion...I like the way it is OK

@lord_m - oracle was trying to avoid something like that so that people could choose their own sides...but your suggestion has merit so perhaps it is something to look at for the next debate...i cant do this one because i realized i am going out of town...

@LordMaeglin, We will probably try that in the near future I like the idea, but first I wan't to get everyone used to the idea of a structured debate and arguing without 'so much emotion'. Plus, many don't have a clue about looking up referrences for defense. This first debate will be a real learning experience.

And there's also the possibility there are some things some people couldn't stand arguing for/against, such as abortion for me, since it's murder in my mind. I could never debate for it.
