Hope that it doesn't become like the Spanish flu, which was a way to decrease population count (if you don't know what I mean, it means many died).

Just a few days ago I posted here that there are 40+ confirmed cases in Singapore, and now there's 77.

@Stardale: I would be very surprised if the current pandemic has a similar death rate as the 1918 pandemic. It was a very different time period from today and medical technology wasn't as advanced as it is today. The majority of the deaths from that pandemic were due to secondary bacterial infections which are more easy to treat nowadays, penicillin hadn't even been discovered at that point.
It would be more realistic to compare it to more recent influenza pandemics, like the Asian Flu of 1957 or the Hong Kong Flu of 1968. The estimated deaths for those were 1~4 million and 1 million respectively. That is still a lot of people but nowhere near the 50+ million killed by the 1918 pandemic.

*sigh* Swine flu. Here in my area (Philippines) we already have cases skyrocketing to the hundreds in a matter of weeks. Fortunately it was a weak batch - or so they claim - and most of the patients had already recovered.
The worrisome thing is that it spreads quickly and...well...it disrupts normal everyday life. And it throws people into a mild paranoia fit. I think most of the face masks within my school's vicinity had been bought (all thanks to a supposed case). I'm just hoping it's mortality rate isn't as bad as the other pandemics.

OT: Yay! Another Filipino! (I have been counting for the past few months XD)
Yeah. They were soaring high. It reminds me that my school was forced to suspend classes because we have 9 cases of the said influenza. The good thing is that majority of the infected became well.

@Smirksweetly
The mortality rate is a lot higher than the regular flu. But it's not as high as the Spanish Flu or some of the others yet.

It probably won't kill as many people as the Plague, because as Mizzou said we have better medicine now. Does that mean it won't kill a lot of people? Sadly, it doesn't. This flu can be pretty harmful.

Griselmay, the news about Swine Flu is heard worldwide, even here in the Philippines. Cases have been soaring high but its a good thing to know that there is a percentage among those who has A-H1N1 is getting well.

Yes, there were a lot reported. I recall there was one case where filipinos in Singapore were not allowed to join an elimination game or something like that because one Filipino has the flu. Good thing, though is that many are becoming well.
But do not let your guard down by that. edit: wow, plus two filipinos! yay! +1

@Stardale: Add 1 to that
![]() @smirksweetly: The casualty we have wasn't exactly a healthy person, she had other ailments(heart disease or something like that and liver problems if I'm not wrong). The flu just things worse, so no wonder her system succumbed. But in spite of this, I still think that H1N1 should'nt be taken lightly. @Avery: I do hope it isn't H1N1. Do get well soon xD @Kirroha: I'm sure that's enough to get nervous. Hopefully you don't have it and that the people infected in your church would have a speedy recovery xD

In Hong Kong, there's one student who got the flu so the government decided to stop school to kindergarten and elementary students. (Ugh my sister doesn't even need to finish her tests!)
But...yesterday on the news, it just said that once we (high school students) finished our exams, we will immediately start our vacation. W00t! xD
