As the man walked towards Cain blood slowly dripping down his brow.Cain saw this as a challenge and lifted one of his hands up slowly showing his palm to the stranger with his first and third finger stetching out slowly building up a bright bulb of light in the palm of his hand.All of a sudden the stranger vanished as Cain heard.''I am right here.''As he slowly turned around he felt a painful sting in the back of his neck as he fell down.Slowly letting the pain envelop him,Cain slipped out of consiousness.

Waking up his vision blurry Cain stood up quickly looking around.''I am sorry I pushed you so hard Cain.I thought I felt something special within you but apparently I was wrong.From now on you can do as you wish.''The man said again as Cain looked at him from a distance.''But can I finally ask who you are and actually see your face for once?''Cain asked the man hiding before him.''I am...''The man said as he stood up slowly his bones creaking from the pain he felt earlier.''I am known as Nothingness.''The man said as he walked over to Cain and knelt down before him.''LOOK,look closely at me Cain.I want you to see who I really am.''The man said as Cain stared straight into his face that seemed like nothing was there.''I am your fighting spirit Cain and I want you to always know I am here for you when you need me.''The man said as he slowly dissapeared in a fog swept away by the wind.

As far as the other works I wrote I do not know about I hate everything I write and am critical of it all.If I do not like it I am going to either forget about it or come back to it later lol

This story is going well so far, and I hope you keep going with it. You do risk frustrating your fans if you put up things and don't finish them (other stories you mentioned). Too much of that and they won't want to start reading your stuff - no one likes frustration. If you think you might not finish one, you could finish the whole story on your own before you post the first section, then put it up in sections for others to see.

Anyway - this one is going great, and I hope you will finish it!

you do have quite a skill for good unique plots... so please try to finish them as well as this... really like them all else i wouldnt have asked you... please... it was really a great update

Just as suddenly as the giant of a man dissapeared Cain woke up to see the man lowering himself down to the ground reaching for Cain's hand.''Oh so you are awake now are you?''He said to Cain in a small voice trying to catch his breath after exhausting his energy fighting with Cain.''Now give me that item your holding and this will all be over.''He said grabbing onto Cain's hand trying to open it up.Shaking his head to clear his mind Cain was more interested in what had just happened to him.''Was it all a dream or something else?''He said out loud to himself looking down at his hand as he clenched his fist and belted the robber across the face watching him fall down in agony clutching his face in pain.''I am going to leave now so it would be smart to leave me alone,or else.''He muttered as he slowly stood up grabbing his stomach in pain.Opening his hand he looked down at what seemed like a locket.Opening it up he saw the picture of his mom and sisters he loved dearly.Seeing the tiny glass that was holding the pictures still was cracked.Cain felt his stomach starting to churn as his throat swelled up while a tear slowly rolled down his cheek.Putting the locket back into his pocket he slowly made his way through the forest into the night.

Limping past trees and logs Cain fell down to his knees in agony as he maneuvered himself onto his back all he could do is lie there and look up at the sky hoping he would feel good enough soon to get up and find a place to go.Closing his eyes he starts seeing flashes of when he was younger with his mother and sisters.''Cain come here quickly.''He heard gently in the wind.Running to the voice he saw his sister down by the old creek she was always at.For some reason she was always entranced by the water and loved finding frogs so she could study them.Walking over to the edge of the water Cain sat down next to his sister.''What is it Kayleigh?''He asked his sister as he looked down at her hand at what appeared to be a little fish with legs.''Look at this!''She said excitedly as she held her hand up so Cain could get a better look.''What is it?''He said knowing full well that it was a tadpole but he knew his sister was excited to share things with him.''This is a baby frog.It is called a tadpole and they are dropped into the water by their mother as they feed on the yolk that is inside it's tummy.In about 12 weeks this tadpole will grow into a full fledged frog and I will come back to study it when it is older.''She told Cain as she gently put him back into the water so it wouldn't die.

''Kids hurry up and come home it is about to rain.''The two children heard as they looked up at the sky just as they got pelted in the forehead by droplets of water.Jumping up to his feet Cain held out his hand to his sister to help her up.Turning his back to his sister Cain bent his knees a little and waved for his sister.''Come on Kayleigh hop on and I will give you a piggy back ride home.''So Kayleigh ran and quickly jumped onto her big brother's back and reached her arms around his neck for support so she wouldn't fall.''Ok brother,I am ready so let's go and be quick about it I am getting soaked here.''Laughing loudly at his sister Cain began running back to the house and inside to greet his mother and his other sister.

His other sister was pale and sickly looking because she had a weird fear of going outside.Whenever she would go outside she would be afraid something bad would happen to her.On many occasions Cain has tried to talk his sister into going outside telling her all about the lovely trees and the birds.As excited as was to hear about them she still never felt safe enough to go outside even the littlest bit.So she usually hung around her mom inside helping her with what needs to be done.

Cain's mother on the other hand was a gorgeous lady with long flowing brown hair that all the men in the tiny village fell in love with over and over again.She loved being a single parent.She never wanted to remarry once her husband died.No matter what the children could look up at her and seeing a big smile on her face no matter what was going on that day whether it be good or bad.

''You guys are soaked to the bone aren't you?''His mother asked the two of them.''No,we are just a little wet mom no reason to be worried.We will dry out in no time,right Kayleigh?''Cain responded as he looked down at his sister to see her nod her head in agreement.''Ok then if you say so.''His mother said with a smile as she turned back around to finish up making their dinners.

Looking over to the corner of the room Cain saw his other sister and walked over to her.Dropping down to his knees so he could be face to face with her she held out her arms and Cain smiled as he picked her up to give her a big hug.''How are you doing,Courtney?''He asked her as she opened her mouth,but to his amazement nothing came out.''Ah,I see what the problem is here.''Cain said as he reached around to the back pocket of his pants and pulled out a blue triangle shape rock and gave it to his sister.''Thanks Cain she said smiling brightly.''You're always welcome little sis.''He told her as he stood up and walked over to his mother.

''Hey mom what are we going to have for dinner tonight?''Cain asked his mother looking over her shoulder to try to get a glimpse of the food to be had.''You just go over there and sit down and be patient for once.''She said with a little snicker and turned around carrying a big pot and sets it down in front of them all.Picking up their bowls and dishing out food to them one by one and setting it back down in front of them.As they looked down at the bowls their eyes widened and they all smiled''Wow,we haven't had roast in a long time.I have missed the smell and taste of it.''Said Courtney and they all began to dig into the wonderful feast their mother prepared for them.

After dinner Cain helped his mother pick the plates up off the table and clean them,while his sisters sat in the corner drawing pictures of what they seen outside.Kayleigh always had more pictures to draw since she actually went outside and Courtney only could draw the same things everyday.''I will be back soon mom.''Cain said as he walked through the door.

Outside he looked up again at the sky to make sure it wasn't going to rain again while he was out.Walking down the long winding dirt road Cain looked from left to right trying to find some good logs he could take home so his family would be warm once more tonite.As he was walking back onto the road he accidentally bumped into a man.''I am so sorry.''Cain told the man who had an evil grin on his face.As Cain was backing away from the man all the man did was tip his hat to Cain and went on his way.Shrugging off the weird encounter he began his search once more for wood he could burn.After being out for what seemed like a few minutes the sky quickly became swallowed by the darkness.Trying to hurry up Cain was running home when he heard screaming.''HELP US!''He heard as the familiar sounding voice rang through his ears.Suddenly dropping the logs he quickly runs back home.His heart feeling as if it is about to pound out of his chest he pushes through the pain and stops in front of his house.Standing before the front door everything seems normal and sounds like everyone is fast asleep.

As he opened the door the strange man he saw before was standing there as if he were waiting for Cain to come home.''You kid come here I want you see this.''The man said with that same evil grin as he lifted his hand up high over his head.Cain watched his hand as it rose up and noticed something shiny in the palm of his hand.Clearing the sweat from his forehead he could see what clearly looked like some strange kind of knife.''Watch this now I want you to see this clearly boy.''The maniac said with a loud shrill laughter.Cain was frozen with fear and could only watch as the man quickly brought his hand down and Cain snapped out of the day dream his heart pounding and shaken with terror.Rolling over onto his stomach all he could do was cry.''I'm sorry I am weak and couldn't save you guys.''Cain muttered the best he could with his lip quivering.

I am going to try something probably mess it up big time I am going to try to write this next part like your supposed to.

''Quit crying you weakling.All you ever do is feel sorry for yourself.Get up NOW!''Cain heard ringing through his head.

Slowly getting up still in alot of pain he began walking in any direction humped over in pain as he struggled just a few steps.With determination in his heart he pushed onwards toward the light he seen flashing in the sky earlier.

''Come on.Quit acting like a baby and muster up the strength to move or else your dead.''Cain heard ringing through his head.

After awhile he finally came to a small cottage and walked up to the door gently knocking on it.After waiting what seemed like forever he was about to leave when the door slowly creaked open about an inch or so.A pair of green eyes is all he could see staring at him.

''Yes?Well what do you want be quick about it.''A lady said in a tone she used when she was trying to scare off people she thought might try to rob her.

''Well get on with it then.Tell me what you want.''She said again.

Cain looked into the ladies eyes and suddenly dropped down face first on the cement walkway.

''Ha ha ha.I knew you were weak.''Cain heard inside his head,

Slowly opening his eyes and rubbing his head where it busted onto the concrete he looked up to see a little old lady.She couldn't be any taller then 4 foot 6 inches.Her tired old bones creaked as she moved about.Feeling a sharp sting on his face Cain jumped back quickly.

''Oh stop it you big wimp.This stuff stings but it will clean your wounds so just lie down and let me take care of your cuts and scrapes.Oh yea by the way my name is Edna.What is yours?''The old lady said wiping away the dried up blood on Cain's face and body.

''Ouch!''Said Cain

''Your name is Ouch?That is a strange name for someone.''Edna said.

''No,my name is Cain.I said ouch because OUCH!that stuff is painful.''He replied.

After laying there feeling as if he is being tortured by the enemy Cain finally felt better and sat up.Looking down at his arms seeing them wrapped in bandages.

''I do not know what I can do to repay you for all of this.If there is something I can do I will be glad to help.''Cain said looking up at the old lady.

''Well since you put it that way mummy man let me think on this for awhile and I will get back to you.For right now here is some food so eat up and regain your strength.''Edna told Cain.

Wow, BadMagick - all these updates were good, and that last one was written beautifully! Great work!

I am glad a few people are enjoying my long winded story lol I am not even close to getting to the middle of the story but if people are enjoying it I will keep on writing it Thanks again.

As Cain sat there looking down at his food he felt his appetite slowly returning to him as he felt a slight grumble coming from inside his stomach.Having his arms wrapped tightly in bandages he had a hard time maneuvering his hands to pick up the wooden utensil so he could grab onto his food and eat it.After fumbling around for a little he finally caught on and got the first bite to fall into his empty stomach in days.His eye's widening and growing bigger as he hadn't tasted anything as good since he had his mother's cooking.

''Well well,it looks like someone hasn't eaten in forever.''Edna said as she was smiling seeing his bowl almost empty went and refilled it back up for Cain.

''Thanks alot ma'am I really needed this and it is delicious.I haven't had anything this good sin-.''Cain stopped himself feeling his throat swelling up again.He continued trying to eat his food having to push it down his throat from the swelling.

After finishing up his meal Cain stood up and looked around the room trying to find a place to put his dishes in to no avail.

''Here mummy let me see those dishes.I am a simple woman and walk down to fill up this big bucket everyday so I can clean my dishes with and my house.''Edna told Cain as she walked over and grabbed his wooden eating utensil and plate with some food squashed onto it he couldn't get ahold of.

''Well do you have a place to stay and live?''She asked Cain not hearing an answer.

Looking back at him she saw him looking down at the floor telling he was in pain.

''Well do not worry mummy cheer up some you can stay here as long as you need and help around the house.''She said with a grin.

Just as she spoke those last words Cain's head shot up almost giving him whiplash which was all he needed at this point.

''Are you sure ma'am?I do not want to be any trouble to you?''He said with the first smile he has had on his face in years.

''I will be glad to have you here mummy but if you call me ma'am one more time you are going to be lifted up off the ground by your ear.I am not ma'am I am Edna alright?''She said laughing at Cain.

''Yes ma'a....''Cain said stopping in his tracks before Edna made good on her promise about lifting him up by the ears.

''Yes Edna,I mean I would love to stay here with you.''Cain said as he felt a weight being lifted off his shoulders.

For once Cain wouldn't have to worry about about where he was going and what was going to happen to him and how he was going to eat.For the first time in forever he could look up to the sky and take a deep breath of air with no worries for the moment.

''Here sit down for awhile.We need to speak about you living here with me.''Edna told Cain as he heard her brittle bones creaking as she brought a chair for him to sit in.

Cain sat down slowly still in pain and watched as the old lady sat down in front of him her feet barely touching the floor.As Cain was watching her feet swaying back and forth Edna spoke up.

''Ok Cain like I said I am a simple woman and live by myself.As you can tell it is hard for me to get around so I need a little help from you.And in exchange as I said you can stay here and have a place to rest your head and food in your stomach.''She told him looking into his eyes seriously

''I understand Edna.Whatever you need I will gladly help you and do what I can for you.''He said sitting back in the chair trying to maneuver to a position that wouldn't be so bad on his bones.

Edna got up and walked over to a small closet she opened.The closet was piled high with blankets and pillows.Cain was sitting hesitantly in his chair hoping all this stuff didn't fall down on the old lady he just befriended.After some close calls of seeing the blankets and pillows teetering Edna closed the closet and gave a blanket and a pillow to Cain.

''Here you go mummy.''She said as she handed the items to Cain.

''You can sleep over here on the floor in front of the wood stove since it gets real cold around here at nite.I will be in the other room if you need anything.But ALWAYS knock before you come in.''She told him forcefully to make sure he understood to knock first.

''Thanks Edna I appreciate everything I will be sure to knock before walking into the room.''Cain said smiling as he stood up.

Moving the chair into the corner of the room Cain set up his blanket and pillow in front of the wood stove.While laying down Cain reached into his pockets to pull out the precious locket.Grasping it into his hands he has always done whenever he fell asleep he took one last look inside.

''Goodnite family.''Cain said as he kisses the pictures inside.

Clutching the locket close to his heart he slowly began fading into a dreamworld.Somehow finding himself inside his mind standing in complete darkness he hears faint whispers off in the distance.

''You weak fool.You are worthless and will never be anything but worthless.''Cain heard as wind blew by his ear.

Dumbfounded Cain looked around quickly trying to look off into the distance.Waiting for his eyes to adjust to the darkness,his pupils dialated he thinks he sees a shadow and runs towards it quickly.

''Who the hell are you?I am getting tired of hearing you in my head calling me worthless and weak.I want to know who you are now.''He said angrily as he grabbed the figure on the shoulder.

All of a sudden Cain heard a wicked laugh coming from the shadowy figure as he turned around.All Cain could see was that he was wearing a dark cloak with a hood on that was darker then the pits of the night sky.

''I do not think you are ready to meet me yet,you weak fool.''Said the figure as he held out his hand Cain feeling himself being pushed back suddenly wakes up to the old lady standing over him.

''Wow it looked like you were having a weird dream.Usually I do not care but wow you were tossing and turning like crazy.''Edna told him as she opened her hand showing Cain the locket she found.

''Can I have that back please?''Cain asked her politely as he got up to his feet.

Edna opened it up and looked at the pictures inside and closed it and handed it back to Cain.

''So Cain I take it those people were close to you,were they?''She asked him curiously

''Yes this was my family that I loved very much.''He told her not wanting to go into more details of the haunting expierence as he put the locket back into his pocket.

''Well mummy get in the other room and wash up.I didn't want to say this last night but you really do stink to high Heaven.''She told him holding her nose.

Cain got up and entered the other room looking around and seeing a small wooden bucket with a piece of cloth in it.Closing the door behind him Cain undresses slowly and starts to wash the smell of the dirt and blood off of his body.Changing into some clothes he seen laying on the bed waiting for him he walked back out into the other room where Edna was waiting for him holding an axe.

''Well mummy it is time for us to begin our work for the day.Here take this axe and chop us up some wood.Although you will have to go into the forest first to find some to chop up.''Edna said holding out her hands so Cain could take the axe.

Walking over to her Cain reached out and gripped his hand onto the axe and it fell straight to the ground.

''Wow boy you do know that is pretty heavy there and it might take two hands to hold it and carry it.''Edna said laughing at Cain

Cain smirked at Edna and used both of his hands this time to pick the axe up and he put it over his shoulder and walked out of the cottage.

Looking around at the area,Cain stood for a moment to scope it out and try to think of where the best place would be to find some logs he could chop up for him and Edna.Finally finding a place he started to walk over to this lightly wooded area and started to look around for some logs.Finding a big log Cain knelt down to pick it up and when he lifted his head up he saw a deer in the distance.Catching eye contact with Cain the deer scurried off into the distance leaving Cain to remember once again about his family.

Flashing back in his mind Cain opened his eyes and saw his sister Kayleigh running after a baby deer.

''Come here baby I do not want you to run away and get hurt by the wolves in the forest.''She said yelling for the deer but to no avail.

She watched as the deer ran off into the distance jumping from left to right avoiding trees so it wouldn't run into them.Turning around Kayleigh ran to her big brother and wrapped her arms around his waist looking up at him.

''Brother?Is that deer going to be alright and find his family?''She asked as her eyes glazed over slowly.

Kneeling down in front of her,Cain rested his hands on her little cheeks and lifted her head to look into her eyes.

''I am sure the baby deer will be fine.I am sure it is running straight to it's parents and it will be fine with them.No more worrying alright?''He told her as a smile began to creep up slowly on her face.

Hearing a loud rustling in the leaves nearby him Cain snapped out of it and went back to gathering firewood.After a few hours of searching and lugging wood back and forth from the cottage,Cain started putting the blocks of wood onto the ground and began swinging the axe chopping them into 3 halves each.

Picking the wood up by bundles of 3 under his arms and carrying them into the cottage Edna had a place set up for the wood.Cain set the wood on a little white blanket so it would not scratch the floor.After about five trips in and out all the wood was taken care of.

''Well now that that part is done I need your help with something else.''Edna asked Cain

''Sure,anything Edna what do you need?''He said curiously about what she wanted.

Picking up a couple of buckets and handing them over to Cain.

''I need you to go down to the little river around the back of this place and fill these buckets up with water.''She told him

Cain turned around and walked outside around the back of the cottage.Keeping an ear out for the sounds of water as he was walking finally heard something in the distance.Following the sound he saw the river and knelt down.Filling each of the buckets up he got up and started walking back to the house.

''I still think your pathetic Cain.''He hears once again in his head trying to ignore it.

''GET OUTTA MY HEAD!''Cain yelled out to the voice haunting him.

Edna rushed outside to see what was wrong.

''What are you going on about now Cain?''She said in a huff trying to catch her breath.

Cain noticed the old lady only used his real name in times of sentiment when she cared.

''Nothing I am sorry I worried you Edna.I will try not yell like that again I am sorry.''He said trying to hide his emotions.

''Well alright,but if you ever feel like talking to me then you know where I am.Now get in there with those buckets mummy.''She told him as she turned around and went right back inside.

Following closely behind her Cain went inside and put the buckets on the ground where Edna pointed.He lifted his head to the smell of something sweet and his mouth started watering profusely.

''Well sit down mummy and let us begin eating.''She said as she turned around and handed Cain his food.

Looking down at the plate in front him Cain seen what smelled so sweetly.Bringing the plate up to his nose he took a big whiff of the apple pie Edna had made for the both of them.Reaching for the wooden utensil he had such trouble with the night before he started digging in.Hungry from the day's work he went through,he scarfed it up like he has never eaten before.

''Wow I am glad you like the food that much.We are running low on food so tomorrow I will let you walk to the market with me.Noone will mess with me with a big strapping lad like you accompanying me.''She said laughing and took both of their plates and began washing them.

Getting up and walking over to Edna Cain grabbed the washed dishes and began to dry them off.It was the least he could do for this old woman who let a total stranger into her house and treating him like a grandson.

''Edna I do not know how to thank you for letting me into your home like this.I have never met someone like you before.Without hesitation you took me in,and for that I thank you again.''He said while choking back tears again.

''Think nothing of it Cain I know there is something special about you and you never know I may feel something inside of you I can help you with.''Edna said drying her hands off and walking to her room.

''What do you mean ''special''?''He asked confused.

''Well we will talk about that when the time comes you are not ready to open up to me yet are you?''She said closing the door behind her.

''I guess not.I do not think I ever will be ready.''Cain thought to himself and made his bed again for the nite and once more grabbed the locket out of his pocket and kissed the pictures inside and held it close to his heart once more.

Closing his eyes slowly and drifting off to sleep Cain once again found himself in the dark recesses of his mind back where he was standing before he woke up.

''Do you feel me growing stronger inside of you weakling?''The strange figure lightly said into Cain's ear.

After hearing this Cain turned around quickly,seeing the cloaked figure once more that has been haunting him more and more as each day passes.Getting angry Cain jumped back from the figure to get away from it.

''I want to know who you are now!''He yelled out as his voice echoed in the darkness.

''You are going to find out soon enough who I am weakling.I am slowly getting more and more powerful within you and soon I will ta--.Well nevermind about that part you will find out weakling.''The cloaked figured told him as he once again held up his hand and Cain found himself flying backwards.

Thinking he would wake up this time he felt himself thump hard onto the ground.Thinking it was all a dream he suddenly felt a sharp pain on his butt.Getting up and rubbing his back side Cain ran toward the figure ready to confront it once more.As soon as Cain got close to the figure he seemed to draw farther and farther away from him laughing menacingly.

''Come back here and face me.''He said angrily as he was slowly getting out of breath from jogging after the figure.

Suddenly a bright flash of light shone into Cain's eyes blinding him.Covering his eyes trying to protect them Cain felt a hand on his shoulder seeming to pull him into another realm.Opening his eyes he turned around quickly and noticed someone before him he hasn't seen for awhile.Before he could open his mouth to say something he woke up to the light shining brightly into his eyes,and saw Edna once again standing before him.

''I do not know how you expect me to sleep mummy with all that fussing and moving you do in your sleep.''She said holding out her hand trying to help Cain up.

Wow posted way too much today my brain is fried lol.Hope people are still getting into the story and wanting more

Reaching up Cain took Edna's held out hand and much to his surprise Edna yanked him straight up off his bottom.

''Holy cow Edna I never knew you were that strong.''He said surprised.

''Well mummy you look at me and see a frail old brittled lady and what you do not know is I have a few tricks up my sleeve.''She said actually pointing up her shirt sleeve as Cain tried looking up there at the same time expecting to actually find something.

''You are aware that is just an expression right,mummy?''She said pushing his head away from her shirt.

''Oh yea I knew that I was just ummmmm''He stopped himself before he made more of a fool of himself.

Edna once again pointed to the bedroom and Cain knew what he had to do.He walked into the room and shut the door behind him slowly and undressed.Standing there as he was washing himself he finally took the bandages off his arm and looked himself over.Much to his surprise all his wounds seemed to be healed somehow.All he could see is a few scars where his arms and body were split open pretty well.After finishing up and washing himself he got dressed and stretched out his limbs feeling a little more limber,then walked out into the main room.

He saw Edna standing there and waiting for him with a satchel stretched across her shoulder.

''Come on now mum--.Well I guess I cannot call you that anymore seeing as how you got rid of the bandages and so forth.That is fine,I will come up with a new name for you.''She said looking him over pondering about a new name.''Oh well I will come up with something just give me time.''

''You know you can call be my name.I have heard you say it before so I know you remember it.''He told her hoping she would finally call him by his name everytime instead of just at certain times.

Good writing, Badmagick. This is an interesting story, and I'm looking forward to more.
