You won't find the key in a chest anywhere. The Fairy Queen will give it to you, if you help her.
Your approach should be: HIGHLIGHT FOR SPOILERS: Go into the town of Faiara and talk to everyone there. You'll learn about the Fairy Queen's predicament and trigger some important quests. Go back out to Whisper Woods and find the Fairy Queen, who needs something. Look in the southern part of Whisper Woods for a cave. This is the entrance to Mirror Caves. Here you'll find items that will help you complete quests you received in Faiara. Completing one of those quests will allow you to finally help the Fairy Queen. Rabbit, please remember to give clues or answer only the first step of the question asked. If you feel you just HAVE to give step-by-step info (we prefer you don NOT), at least hide it with white text. Thanks.  ~~ tiniponi

Are you in Whisper Woods, or Fedir Forest? Whisper Woods isn't marked on the world map.
In Fedir Forest, find the portal to the faery realm, then you need to find a way to open it. Once you do, you'll get access to Whisper Woods, and have to solve a quest there to receive the key.

try going through the side door (the door for staff only)
once you do that ulf will give you an idea :] good luck!

I have. He keeps saying staff only, then Edward points out its the only way in, and they wish they knew how to get past. Ive checked my inventor and the music box is there.

Thanks guys. I finally figured it out. If only I would remember to talk to every single person. I have been in the prison with Ulf several times and never spoke to him,.
