No, really! I'm stuck on a mountain! Don't laugh at me! I'm serious!
Okay, so I defeat the dark sprite in the "Haunted" area, and... I can't get back down! I go two steps, and I just STOP two steps down the stairs to the tree spirit! How can I fix this? And, please, PLEASE! don't tell me I have to start over!

You shouldn't have to start over. This is a common bug. Try hitting the spacebar and then try to move afterwords.

Try talking to the tree spirit again and then try going back down. You may need to talk to her a few times and you also may have to switch your lead character.
This has worked for others.

Head west to Candar, then from there, head southeast, past Witchwood, head to the very south tip of the bogland and head east. You'll emerge on a plains. Seafall Shrine is north of it.

My problem's pretty much the opposite. I've got what I need to help her and am trying to reach her, but can't. I'm about two steps away from being on the top level of the mountain. I've tried space, I've tried reinstalling, I've tried different install sources.
I've heard my predicament is the result of a certain switch in the game's memory being activated, and this switch being used to prevent you from moving when you're near a crucial enemy. (So, certain tiles get solidified so you're unable to escape before you're supposed to.) Just after three years have passed and the king gets you to save his daughter and you go down the side of the mountain to an area near a cave where the guy's trying to forcibly marry her, there's a cutscene. I moved forward when I don't think I was supposed to be able to, then I defeated him and moved back to my original spot, and the cutscenes from when you just get there and when you've defeated him kinda spliced in an odd way. I'm also unable to talk to two witches I believe may be of importance. Sadly, the save-file-fixer seems to be on hiatus (hopefully for not too long), but I'd rather not start all the way from the beginning again.
