I'm having an issue with Aveyond: Rhen's Quest. After bringing a wife to the boat owner and purchasing the boat from him, I go to enter the boat and get an error message and the game crashes. Here's a screen shot of the error message.

I've looked around online for posts about other people having this same problem, as well as for a patch, but I haven't found anything. I tried downloading the Skudder Patch just in case, but it did not work. Any suggestions?

Yes, this happens when your game is a mishmash of different versions.

Let me know where you purchased the game, and I'll see if I can find out what version they have. That will determine what steps you need to take to fix the problem.

It LOOKS like you're running build C there, but have you done any updates recently, tried to upgrade from build B to build C, changed around any files, or anything like that?

I downloaded it from Cnet. I noticed that earlier in the game it said it was build B, but now, such as when I took the screen shot, it says build C.

Did you do an update at any point - did you reinstall from anywhere else? It sure seems like you have a build C world map with a build B game, or vice versa.

My suggestion would be to redownload and reinstall, then try to get in the boat again and see if it allows you to.

Have you already purchased the game, or are you still in the demo period?

With Cnet, it was free.

Do you pay a subscription fee or something with Cnet? Or is this a pirated version?

If it's pirated then you won't be getting any technical support from here.

The version carried by cnet comes from Amaranth Games, but as far as I can see there are no "subscription plans" like Shockwave. So unless you're still on your trial hour (siriusly? you can finish up to Vohu Manah in an hour?)...

I went to the cnet page, and it says the full version costs $19.99. What sort of plan are you on that gives you the game for free?

I'm not exactly sure what is going on, but I'm thinking there may be a problem with the Cnet download. When I downloaded Aveyond: Ean's Quest (which I later bought) from Cnet and opened the game, I got a box telling me how much time was left in my trial and how much it cost to buy the game. This never happened with Aveyond: Rhen's Quest, it just goes straight to the game.

Something like that would happen if you downloaded the game from one site, but paid for it on another. Or, when you pay for the game, you might get an email with your activation details (it could get caught in a spam filter though), and it's waiting for you to key in your code. If it keeps doing that, you'll need to contact Cnet and find out the process to activate the game you paid for.

On the other issue, I checked with Amanda and she said the Aveyond games on Cnet are definitely shareware, not free. You get a trial period (usually an hour), and after that time you have to pay for it. If you've played Rhen's Quest for more than an hour (which I suspect you must have, if you've reached the point of purchasing the rowboat) and it hasn't stopped your trial, then something's wrong there too. This could also be linked to the problem you're having with the error message, especially if you've downloaded/installed twice.
