If I have all the spells from one orb do I still need it equipped for each spell to be upgraded?
For example I am level 40 and just joined the enchanters guild. Can I leave the song sphere unequipped and will the spells still upgrade from that sphere? Do I need to swap them on and off when leveling? thanks

When you level up, only the skills for the currently-equipped orb will be improved. So you need to keep the same orb equipped until you've learned all the spells you want from it. Then you can change to another.
